The theme of Japanese imperialistic past in short stories by Murakami Haruki

The aim of this study is the depiction of Japanese imperialistic past in the works of Murakami Haruki. Considering the limited space of the study, the focus has not been placed on Murakami's novels but rather on the literary analysis of two short stories: Ton Takitani and Chgoku yuki no surou bto. The study tries to discover the ways, in which the history is perceived and depicted, and tries to enlighten the nature of symbols in order to reveal the hidden critique and feeling of guilt towards other nations damaged by Japanese imperialism.

Discrimination and discrimination terms in contemporary Japan

Mým cílem zde bude zmapovat vybrané aspekty diskriminace v současném Japonsku s důrazem na etnickou diskriminaci, s malou odbočkou o projevech diskriminace v japonském jazyce na závěr. Uvědomuji si, že vyčerpávající zpracování tak rozsáhlého tématu by vyžadovalo prostor mnohem větší, než jaký zde mám k dispozici, a že tato práce nepostihne zdaleka vše, co k problematice patří. Přestože téma diskriminace je v dnešní době velice aktuální, problematiku diskriminace v Japonsku a odrazů diskriminace v japonském jazyce zatím nikdo, pokud je mi známo, v češtině nezpracovával. Budu proto spokojená, podaří-li se mi podat základní přehled o vybraných aspektech tématu a případně podnítit čtenáře k dalšímu studiu a kladení otázek.

Iruikon'intan: stories about the partnership of animals and humans in the past and the present time

Japanese term iruikonintan refers to stories about marriage between a human and a being other than human, such as supernatural beings, animals, ghosts, monsters etc. Although there are a lot of such examples in classical Japanese literature, one can hardly overlook frequent appearance of their motives in modern and contemporary literature as well. This thesis covers that field of iruikonintan, which is related to marriages between human and animals. On a number of examples starting from ancient myths to Buddhist tales, folktales and fairy tales it gives some hints, how to comprehend the phenomenon of iruikonintan. While using the Jungian psychoanalytic approach and the methodology of archetypal criticism, the thesis focuses on the interpretation of various structures of iruikonintan as an allegorical representation of the unconscious contents in human mind. Considering the socio-political background in Japan in every epoch of its history of thought, iruikonintan has absorbed these various influences (such as Buddhism, Confucianism, etc.) during the times. These influences are rooted deeply in iruikonintan themselves as well as in collective unconsciousness. The theme of love and the aesthetic ideal of perfect lover in Heian tales with poems

This thesis deals with the the theme of love and the aesthetic ideal of perfect lover in tales with poems (monogatari) from the middle of the Heian period (7941185). Firstly it pursues the historical and social conditions that influenced genesis of these works. Special attention is given to the marriage institution and the nature of love in this period. Afterwards the author included an analysis of the theme of love poetry in the first imperial anthology of Japanese poetry (Kokinwakash) and its love discourse. The thesis deals also with the basic aesthetic ideals of the Heain period and tries to investigate their authentic meaning in the context of classical Japanese literature. However, the main concern of this thesis is the analysis of Ise monogatari (Tales of Ise). It deals with the problems of the genesis, date, authorship and the meaning of its title, as well as the construction of the work. Then comes the study of Ariwara no Narihira, the historical figure, who is probably the protagonist of this literary text, and the author also deals with the problems concerning the interpretation of this character in the context of the middle age commentaries of Ise monogatari. A picture of man in the works by Endo Shusaku

The works of Endo Shusaku and the themes discussed in them derive from his own unique life. Drawing on hi experience with isolation and misunderstanding in a foreign environment, and then his being an exception in Japan for his Catholic faith, Endo certainly shows profound understanding for those in similar situations, and his observations become even more relevant in the present-day world where multiculturalism and migration are some of the foremost issues. In spite of the complexities that interactions between various cultures, nationalities and beliefs bring, Endo's novels reveal hope that these differences will not be impediment to mutual tolerance and understanding across these boundaries. Essential to this understanding and compassion with others will be individuals who resemble the protagonists appearing in the three novels we have examined: people who dare to listen to their conscience and follow their inherent sense for justice, even at the cost of "going against the current" and the risk of losing the favor of majority. This, I believe, would be the "message" Endo's works, and also the reason why he remains one of the most respected contemporary authors. Temple - narative scene in two modern Japanese short stories

Předmětem rozboru této diplomové práce jsou dvě povídky dvou moderních japonských autorů druhé poloviny dvacátého století. Oba spisovatelé, jak Jumiko Kurahašiová, tak Cutomu Minakami patřili ve své době k výrazným postavám domácí japonské tvorby a nejen, že zaujali odbornou kritiku, ale našli si i řadu oddaných čtenářů. Nicméně však nelze říci, že by patřili ke světově proslulým představitelům literární tvorby Země vycházejícího slunce. Obě zkoumané povídky vznikly na začátku šedesátých let dvacátého století a obě zapadají spíše do počátků literární tvorby svých autorů. V případě Jumiko Kurahašiové se skutečně jedná o příklad velmi rané tvorby; spisovatelce v době vydání v roce 1961 nebylo ještě ani 27 let. Naopak Cu tomu Minakami byl v povědomí čtenářstva již od roku 1947, kdy se jeho prvotina stala bestsellerem. O téměř patnáct let později získává za povídku Chrám divokých husí první větší literární ocenění, avšak jedná se o jeho teprve čtvrtou publikaci, neboť mezi roky 1947 a 1959 se umělecky odmlčel. Obě zkoumaná díla jsou tedy pro jejich autory do jisté míry čerstvým tvůrčím projevem. Autoři se v nich při hledání svého vlastního literárního stylu pomyslně vydávají na pro ně novou cestu.

Developing characters in Óe Kenzaburó's early fiction

V historii teorie literatury se objevily zásadní otázky týkající se výzkumu literatury. Problém zkoumání literatury lze nahlížet z několika úhlů podle toho, jak se po opodstatnění jejího výzkumu ptáme. Úhel pohledu zkoumání nám vymezují, stejně jako v jakékoli jiné oblasti lidského zájmu, tázací slova Proč? Co? a Jak?. Ptejme se tedy: proč literaturu zkoumat? A je možné ji zkoumat? Je-li to možné, je nutné ji zkoumat, když bychom ji mohli pouze číst a těšit se jí, jak argumentovaly skeptické směry v historii literární teorie? V Teorii literatury se dočteme, že "nelze postulovat žádný obecný zákon, který by naplňoval smysl zkoumání literatury: čím bude obecnější, tím se bude jevit abstraktnějším, a tudíž prázdnějším, a tím více nám bude unikat konkrétní předmět uměleckého díla." 1 Můžeme k problému čtení přistupovat jako k individuálnímu a tedy individuálně řešenému. Zabýváme-li se však zkoumáním literatury v širším významu, veřejně, či dokonce profesně, pak je nutné mít pro takové počínání důvod a spatřovat za výsledkem takové činnosti smysl. Určitý "zákon", čili definici formulovat, stanovit hranici vymezující naši činnost. Např. stačí, budeme-li se domnívat, že zkoumání samo o sobě pouze jako vyšší forma "čtení" má za výsledek kvalitativně vyšší formu interpretace. Interpretace "literárních světů" je...

The kyogen farce, its lasting and changes

Divadelní umělci na Západě dnes nemají organický soubor rad, o který by se mohli opřít, a který by jim usnadnil orientaci. Jedinou oporou jim je text hry a pokyny režiséra. Postrádájí pravidla jednání, která by jim pomáhala řešit praktické problémy, a přitom ne omezovala jejich uměleckou svobodu. Tradiční asijský divadelní umělec vychází ze soustavy organických a důkladně prověřených "absolutních pokynů", to jest uměleckých pravidel, která kodifikují uzavřený herecký styl představení, jemuž se musí podrobit všichni interpreti určitého žánru. Není snad třeba zdůrazňovat, že ti, kdo pracují v síti stanovených pravidel, mají větší svobodu než ti, kteří jsou -jako herci na západě- spoutáni náhodností a absencí pravidel. 1 Těmito slovy začíná Eugenio Barba své pojednání, ve kterém vysvětluje, proč se vlastně s kolektivem pustil do vývoje nového odvětví divadelní vědy - divadelní antropologie. Do výzkumu, který se snaží nalézt a popsat průsečíky mezi jednotlivými formami divadelního umění a tak extrahovat cosi jako "základní univerzální principy divadelního konání".
