Dana Jandová - The Graphic Art

The core part of the thesis is devoted to the lifework of a Czech artist Dana Jandová (1930-2014) with an emphasis on the graphic production, which came close to outweighing her activity in painting during the first decade of her career. By analyzing the themes that engaged Jandova's attention, the main aim of the author is to trace the development and the chronology of her stylistically varied oeuvre. In doing so, the intent of the work is to evaluate the artist's graphic production in its broader cultural and historical context. The thesis is accompanied by the summary catalogue of prints listed in thematic order.
House of Soviets: Past, Present, Future. Story of the transformation of Mount Royal as the quintessence of cultural and architectural transformation of the city of Kaliningrad

Kaliningrad was founded in 1255 by Czech king Premysl Otakar II. It is as old as Usti nad Labem and as large as Brno, with the Latin name Regiomontium, Czech name Královec, German name Königsberg, Polish name Królewiec, Lithuanian name Karaliaučius and Russian name Kaliningrad. The city has endured massive destruction during the Second World War, which has made her marks on the face and soul of the city. The third generation of Russians lives in Kaliningrad nowadays. They are interested in the history of their new homeland and centenary history of the former German city. The spirit lives on in buildings facades, sculptures and urban landscape. In this work I would like to explore the development of the historic German town before World War I, changes and development of the modernist center of the new soviet Kaliningrad region and how it has changed in contemporary Russian realities on the example of a former heart of the capital of East Prussia - Royal Castle which was replaced by buildings of House of Soviets.
Post-conceptual development in the Jindřich Chalupecký Award

This thesis uses Jindrich Chalupecky Prize as a regular scheme, in which is shown the evolution of Czech art in the last twenty-five years. The emphasis is on the emergence and forming of post-conceptualism, which appears to be the dominant aspect. This analysis researches the work of selected winners of the laureates of the Jindrich Chalupecky Prize, and show how post-conceptualism in the Czech art scene promote and change its understanding and valuation through their work. The results of this work will be general conclusions regarding specifics, options and further expected development of post-conceptualism in Czech Art.

Czech artist in the years 1968-1989: Servant or a hero? Stanislav Kolibal and Josef Malejovsky Introduction of the bachelor thesis outlines the political developments in Czechoslovakia in 1948-1989. The main theme will capture the difference between official and unofficial scene Czech artistic life in the years 1968-1989, represented artists Stanislav Kolibal and Joseph Malejovsky. The content will compare the conditions in which they formed during the normalization throughout their lives, before the normalization period, compare the quality of their work, and compare the regime/anti-regime attitude to art and not least their political position not only in artistic expression. Text in addition to life artists will also focus on the development of groups in which worked, exhibitions and other artistic expressions factors.
Jiří Šetlík's Art Collection in Museum of Art and Design Benešov

Aim of this thesis is to describe and analyze of art collection, that was given by Czech art theoretician and art historian Jiří Šetlík to Museum of Art and Design in Benešov in 2010. It will deal with sculptures, graphics, drawings, paintings and applied arts, which Jiří Šetlik had been collecting his hole life. It will try to find relation between Šetlík's professional life, his life and relations with artists. It will be contextualized to cultural and political situation from 1940's to 2000's. The important part of work will be catalog of artworks.

Czech stained glass windows from 1945 to the present

The thesis focuses on a previously untreated topic. It deals with Czech stained glass from 1945 to the present. Based on the exploration of stained glass on both sacral and public premises, as well as on pieces created for the presentation of Czechoslovakia at international exhibitions, it creates a comprehensive picture of the development of Czech stained glass in this period. The first part deals with the renewal of glass making and professional schools. Most attention is paid to Josef Kaplický's studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture & Design in Prague. The thesis also documents works of glassmakers and artists in 1950s. As a breaking point for the development of stained glass, EXPO'58 is stated. In 1960s, the World Fair in Brussels widely influenced activities of Czech glassmaker who started inserting stained glass innovatively into reliefs using other experimental forms. It also shows that, in connection with new technological innovations in 1970s and 1980s, stained glass was applied in reconstructed and new buildings. The text implies that after the Velvet Revolution in 1989, a change occurred in the State's approach to the support of decorating public buildings, and in the same period, new private artistic glassmaking workshops and stained glass studios were established. Conceptual tendencies in czech contemporary design Kamila Matějková Abstract Diploma thesis deals with conceptual tendencies emerging in contemporary Czech design and try to put them in historical and social context. It focuses primarily on product design, glass and ceramics and their development in the last decade. First, the thesis deals with the development of conceptual art, theoretical approaches to the design and the definition and circumstances of occurrence of conceptual design. The main part of the thesis focuses on conceptual tendencies that were observed based on research of contemporary Czech design scene. These tendencies are: the historical trend and tendency to appropriation of older works, the inspiration of nature and processing of environmental issues, the application of humor, exaggeration and story as a concept in design and a tendency to material experiment and experiment with material processing techniques. Image of woman in print media in interwar Czechoslovakia

1 Abstract The thesis "The image of a woman in the press at interwar Czechoslovakia" deals with the visual presentation of a woman who was an integral part of the First Republic press. The thesis attempts to provide an analysis of selected periodicals (magazines especially for women) in terms of the depiction of women. The thesis surveys the changes in society and lifestyle in this epoch of our history which complements the cultural-historical background of the time and familiarity with contemporary press. The thesis focuses primarily on issues of women's emancipation, which were at that time very current and projected also into all areas of the art. Emancipation influenced significantly the whole Czech artistic creation. We can find some evidence especially in the press, which also mediated the reflection of period. The thesis focuses only on the most important press at these times with regard to its scope. Eva revue was especially important for emancipatory efforts and is compared here with men's magazine Gentleman and avant-garde magazine ReD. The main part of the thesis focuses on the actual image of women, generally and in specific cases. Prefab house building in Prague in the 1980's: comparison of housing estate Barrandov and Źižkov

Prefab house building in Prague in the 1980's: comparison of housing estate Barrandov and Žižkov This thesis deals with the prefab house building in Prague in the eighties through the example of Barrandov and Žižkov. It describes further the circumstances of the creation of both settlements, their development plans and final implementation. Taken into account is also an art master plan of both settlements in relation to the general issue of art in public space in the time of normalization. This thesis demonstrates the influence of Jiří Ševčík, Kevin Lynch and Christian Norberg-Schulz on authors of Barrandov housing estate. Basis of these architects are in contrast with the approach of planners of problematical reconstruction of Žižkov. The chapter dedicated to Žižkov describes both unrealized and realized conversion plans, including their development and public acceptance. In conclusion, it compares the two settlements and describes their current status.
