Multivalued logic systems for technical applications

Simplified flow distribution modelling
Flow Distribution in Equipment with Dense Tube Bundles
Babička Fialová, Dominika ; Jegla, Zdeněk (referee) ; Turek, Vojtěch (advisor)
Significant maldistribution negatively influences performance of equipment containing dense tube bundles and, moreover, it can cause a wide range of operating issues. This thesis therefore focuses on analysis of fluid flow in complete distribution systems via computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Data obtained from simulations carried out using the software ANSYS Fluent were also statistically analysed. Influence of system arrangement, tube bundle parameters and operating parameters on flow distribution non-uniformity and pressure drop was investigated. According to the results, system arrangement is the crucial differentiating parameter in terms of flow distribution as well as pressure drop. Additionally, data obtained via the classical CFD approach were compared with those yielded by a simplified CFD model for three selected distribution systems. Simplified CFD approach can - given its low computational demand - be utilised in optimization algorithms as well as in the course of the initial stage of equipment design process. Furthermore, this thesis discusses a simulation tool which is based on the simplified CFD approach. Although this tool is still being developed, the results it yields are very promising.

Waste Incineration II: Flue Gas Cleaning Equipment
Albrecht, Jan ; Juřena, Tomáš (referee) ; Turek, Vojtěch (advisor)
Description of the thermal treatment methods dealing with wastes is a major concern of the present study. Emphasis is placed on equipment and methods for purification of waste gases created in the process of thermal destruction. Considering that the efficiency of flue gas treatment is dependent not only on the activity of flue gas equipment elimination, but is completely dependent on a whole unit of operating incinerators, we can not focus exclusively on the block of flue gas treatment. Therefore, in the study there are given a description and drawings of equipment for thermal processing of waste. First part of this thesis addresses the koncept the concept of "waste", its definition, classification and possibilities for treatment or recovery. The whole thesis is also written with emphasis on current legislation relating to waste and thermal processing.

Expats and the "Wall of Czechness": An Ethnography of Expat Spaces in Prague
Turek, Veronika ; Verbuč, David (advisor) ; Jurková, Zuzana (referee)
This research project explores the notion of spaces and place-making of expat women living in Prague. Using the metaphor of a "wall of Czechness", this paper identifies why perceptions of living in a given space matter, as these perceptions affect how one interacts with the spaces around them. This metaphorical "wall" thus identifies why expat women find and create their own expat communities for socialization in Prague. As such, online platforms, such as Facebook, aid in creating designated women-only spaces, that facilitate both online and offline interactions. This helps in the creation of place-belongingness, especially for expat women who move to Prague on their own account. This work calls attention to the importance of various spaces associated with place-making in this context: safe spaces, private and public spaces, counter-public spaces and gendered spaces. It also highlights the importance of community- creation, and how communities can be understood and created for these expat women living abroad. The term "expat" itself has specific connotations, and whilst they fall under the category of migrants, the two terms hold very different meanings. This paper adds to existing research on expatriates, as a migrant group, to better understand how they create places, and places of belonging, in...
Modeling of process and power equipment fouling by solid pollutants
Strouhal, Jiří ; Turek, Vojtěch (referee) ; Hájek, Jiří (referee) ; Jegla, Zdeněk (advisor)
Modelling of particulate fouling based on Computational Fluid Dynamics enables to detect a risk of deposit development and to propose improvements in operating conditions and equipment design. The work focuses on the transport and sticking of solid particles. The size of the particles lies in the range from several up to dozens of m. The conditions correspond to the deposition of particles with a negligible liquid fraction and the deposition occurs due to particle deformation, gravity, adhesion, wall surface roughness, deposit deformation and dynamic friction. An emphasis is put on the selection of a suitable sticking model from the group of critical velocity models, which aside from the local conditions and the particle properties account for the impaction velocity. Sensitivity studies on the model settings were conducted to assess the significance of the model parameters and the included phenomena. The simulations were conducted on the case of an experimental facility for solid fuels combustion. Obtained results were compared to observed deposits.
Simulations of Photobioreactors from Hydrodynamics and Mass Transfer Point of View
Rebej, Miroslav ; Turek, Vojtěch (referee) ; Jördening, Alexandra (referee) ; Jegla, Zdeněk (advisor)
Simulations of photobioreactors with microalgae-specific cultures is a field that connects microbiology with the multiphase fluid dynamics. With microalgae cultivation, it is necessary to account various phenomena, e.g., multiphase hydrodynamics with water, CO2 bubbles and microalgae, multiphase species mass transfer, radiation transport, light attenuation, growth and culmination of microalgae and their effect on fluid properties. Computational model presented in this doctoral dissertation thesis links multiphase hydrodynamic model and the species mass transfer model. In the thesis, there is an overview of applicable computational models for the given types of photobioreactors. The multiphase hydrodynamic model and the species mass transfer model then draw from this overview. Next, the accuracy of these sub-models was compared with laboratory experiments. As a result, the developed computational model of the photobioreactor can be further extended with other sub-models, i.e., the irradiation model and the biomass growth model.
