Kunčarová, Helena ; Pšenička, Martin (advisor) ; Sarkissian, Alena (referee)

In this thesis, his theory is compared to other theatricality theories developed by Rudolf Münz and Andreas Kotte. The more general aim of the presented work is to devise a notion of theatricality which is based on historical- theatrological exploration of historical documents.

Reception of Theatre in Late Antiquity: Apologies, Philippics, Scholarly Treatises
Sarkissian, Alena ; Stehlíková, Eva (advisor) ; Vedral, Jan (referee) ; Kulhánková, Markéta (referee)
This thesis has examined several texts that were created in period from 2nd century AD - 12th century AD, i.e. late ancient texts or the texts that drew inspiration from classical tradition. Although the period might seem too wide, it enabled study of continuity and change in the reception of theatre in ancient monographs on this topics. Several questions were asked here. The texts seemed not to have much in common generally. This thesis seeks to find out whether there are any affinities, what their real informative value is in respect to their generic affiliation, what influences affected these treatises and whether and how they influenced each other. The first two chapters determine the issue of this thesis and the current state of research. The third chapter establishes terminology, since the scholarly works on theatre of Late Antiquity and Byzantium have very often defined the term theatre too vaguely, which made it hard to obtain any reasonable output of research. In the fourth chapter the texts to be examined were shortly introduced in chronological order and basic information on their literary qualities was provided to the reader. The analysis of the texts starts in the fifth chapter that discusses generic questions of drama and theatre in Late Antiquity. Tragedy is studied and compared in relation...

The thesis deals with four plays written by French dramatist and theorist of feminism Hélène Cixous for the Parisian Théâtre du Soleil under the directorial guidance of Ariane Mnouchkine. The analysis focuses on three different perspectives - firstly on écriture feminine, defined in the 1970s by Cixous herself, secondly on exile studies, a field of literary criticism concerned with the writings of exiled authors and exile as a fundamental category of human existence, and lastly on the concept of orientalism developed in the 1970s by American literary historian of Palestinian origin Edward Said.

Feminine Theme in Contemporary Czech Theatre
Metge, Klára ; Sarkissian, Alena (advisor) ; Christov, Petr (referee)
The thesis focuses on the depiction of the feminine and stereotypes associated with it in plays that could be qualified as midcult. For the purpose of this analysis, only comedies will be examined as both simplification and schematic characters are one of the key tools of this genre. Midcult in itself enhances this simplification, however with the difference that this simplification is in its case lacking justification. In contemporary Czech mainstream theatre, which inclines towards midcult in the long term, a tradition of staging comedies where the interpretation of female characters is not only based on stereotypes but is reinforcing them is clearly visible. The thesis will analyse two plot schemes which occur frequently in this type of productions: 1. plays in which two seemingly different ageing women befriend each other and decide to go on adventures and 2. plays in which women are perceived as objects - it is most often the case in plots where a male character has several mistresses. In the analysis of different texts and their interpretations of female characters the emphasis will be put chiefly on the way they reinforce the dominant misogynistic perception of women. I will do so by using genre analysis (to determine whether these plays are indeed comedies) and through the lenses of...
Theatre for children of the 21.st century
Pelková, Eliška ; Christov, Petr (advisor) ; Sarkissian, Alena (referee)
The bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of theatre for young audiences within the context of the 21st century, specifically with its relationship to the generation of children born after the year 2000. Based on knowledge of the generation in the fields of pedagogy, sociology, and psychology, supplemented by my own experience being close to the members of this generation, I am making an argument as to whether theatre plays a role in their lives and in which ways is theatre as a medium beneficial to the child. I look for a solution in the stream of the so-called "progressive theatre for children", which I understand as a theatre that treats the children as belonging to a specific generation, social and cultural environment and, in particular, as active spectators, with whom they try to have a dialogue about the world, events, and emotions that surround them. With the help of three publications of specialists from the theatre for children from Anglo-Saxon backgrounds and the local context of Drama in Education, I am building the concept of progressive theatre for children as a space for exploring the world, shaping and consolidating worldview and value systems free from the conservative culture of formative factors and institutions, which I outline in the first part of the work. The last part of...
