Differences in reasons for using dating app Tinder considering gender of the users
Holá, Martina ; Mazáková Šetinová, Markéta (advisor) ; Kotík, Michal (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the Tinder phenomenon, specifically focuses on the reasons for using the Tinder application with regard to the gender of users in the Czech Republic according to the theory of use and gratification and whether the behavior of users is consistent with sociobiological theory. Use and gratification theory focuses on discovering why and how people use mass media to meet their needs, in this case Tinder. While the sociolobiological theory explains the natural selection of partners. A questionnaire was used as a method of data collection. The total number of respondents was 261, of which were 137 women and 124 men. The most common reason was "casual dating" and then "long-term relationship". Women copied the common results, but with men "sex" won. The result copies previous research and use and gratification theory, since men use Tinder mainly for sex and physical satisfaction, whereas women tend to use it for social satisfaction. As to whether the results are in line with sociobiological theory, research has proven contradictory, but in some elements theory is still present, for example, men are more interested than women whether women are fit and skinny, whereas women are less interested in appearance than men, yet they still want to present that they are fit, skinny and...
Study enantioselectivity and synthesis of β-lactam antibiotics catalyzed by penicilin G acylase: Biocatalysis and in-silico experiments
Grulich, Michal ; Kyslík, Pavel (advisor) ; Kotík, Michal (referee) ; Ettrich, Rüdiger (referee)
11 Abstract Penicillin G acylases (PGAs) belong among enantioselective enzymes catalyzing a hydrolysis of stable amide bond in a broad spectrum of substrates, often having high application potential. PGAEc from Escherichia coli and PGAA from microorganism Achromobacter sp. CCM 4824 were used to catalyze enantioselective hydrolyses of seven selected N-phenylacetylated (N-PhAc) α/β-amino acid racemates. The PGAA showed higher stereoselectivity for three (S) enantiomers: N-PhAc-β-homoleucine, N-PhAc-α-tert- leucine and N-PhAc-β-leucine. We have constructed a homology model of PGAA that was used in molecular docking experiments with the same substrates. In-silico experiments reproduced the data from experimental enzymatic resolutions confirming validity of employed modeling protocol. We employed this protocol to evaluate enantiopreference of PGAA towards seven new substrates with application potential. For five of them, high enantioselectivity of PGAA was predicted for. PGAA was further studied in kinetically controlled syntheses of β-lactam antibiotics (SSBA). The PGAA was significantly more efficient at synthese of ampicillin and amoxicillin (higher S/H ratio and product accumulation) compared with PGAEc . Analogously to prediction of enantioselectivity of PGAA towards new substrates this protocol was applied...
Role of Intimacy and Love in Sect and in Minor Churches
Neubauerová, Eva ; Kotík, Michal (advisor) ; Martinová, Marta (referee)
This thesis is an attempt to extend the sociological discussion of a new perspective on the study of sects and minority churches. Within the theoretical background of the work a basic emphasis is given to defining the problem of sect, minority churches, ritual, intimacy and love in their conceptual and classificatory framework without subjective interpretation of the author. This thesis goes out from basic sociological concepts of each term. The main assumption of the thesis is the hypothesis that sects and minority churches can been somehow classified and typologized according to the ways how do they cooperate with intimacy and love in their rituals. The aim of this final thesis is to create this typology based for one thing on comparison of family life from major society with family life from examined groups and for other thing based on analysis of their rituals. The thesis is oriented only on groups derived from Christianity. The conclusion summarizes not only the results of the comparison and analysis of rituals, but also its limits.
"Hipster" Tote Bag Wearers and their Fashion World
Štěpánková, Tereza ; Horák, Vít (advisor) ; Kotík, Michal (referee)
Tereza Štěpánková "Hipster" tote bag wearers and their fashion world Abstract This bachelor thesis deals with the "hipster" tote bag wearers, their fashion world and the role of the terms hipster and style in their life. The goal of the thesis is to find out, if the wearers of the tote bag can be compared to expert definitions of hipster or if there are any special regularities to describe at all. The thesis is composed of four parts, the theoretical part is an introduction to sociology of fashion, style, selfpresentation with citation of Georg Simmel, Erving Goffman and others. For the reason, that hipster is in some definitions considered a subculture, the term subculture is defined, as are the terms related to it. In the second chapter the term hipster itself and its problematic definition are argued with support of contemporary literature. The methodological part is a description of the research process and data collection. The content of the analytical part is formed by interview data interpreted in context of chosen theoretical theses. Three subchapters were formed in the analytical part based on the data, which present the outcome and answers to the research questions. These subchapters are Common elements between the hipster tote bag wearers and its noncoincidental character, The bag wearers' style...
Polyamory: the new trend or return to the roots?
Hrstková, Michaela ; Kotík, Michal (advisor) ; Kozubík, Jan (referee)
The main theme of this bachelor thesis is the construction of intimacy in polyamorous relationships. Polyamory is a a practise of beeing allowed to have close emotional and sexual relationship with multiple people while all of the people concerned knows about it and agree with it. The transformation of the traditional nuclear family during last few decades encouraged a rise of polyamory and other non strictly monogamous relationships. I conducted a qualitative research consisted of parcipant observation in czech polyamory community and eight semi- structured interview with polyamorous people. These methods helped me to observe how intimacy is shared among more than two people and how they solve problems in relationship. In polyamory people emphasize even more on the values as openness, sharing, these values are also typical for strong intimate relationship as well as for the Giddens' idea of pure relationship. I also compare polyamorous to monogamous relationships.
Intimacy and technology: Smartphone as a best friend?
Černá, Kateřina ; Kotík, Michal (advisor) ; Balon, Jan (referee)
This paper focuses on intimacy and technology in the context of the modern society. A relationship of these two aspects of society is introduced as mutually influencing, since intimacy structures technology and on the other hand technology has wider impact on intimacy. Because technology is narrowly connected with commerce, it allows commerce to access the intimate and highly personal relationships. Discussing relevant authors, a picture of contemporary relationships is drawn, being presented as contradictory and full of paradoxes, and consequently more difficult to deal with. Tendencies towards relationships, which are sustained by technology, are presented as ideal and in the text are posted as an opposite to the real ones. An analysis of intimacy dimensions demonstrates that the contradictions continue to exist in the modern relationships even though they are experienced through technology. Further on discussions are interconnected in the example of smartphone, which commerce presents as the best friend of the human. In the end the role of commerce is highlighted, since it introduces the relationships being sustained by technology as the natural ones, and by this activity an effort is made to gain better control in intimate relationships. Keywords intimacy, technology, commerce, smartphone,...
Justice and injustice - how we understand it in modern society
Kovaříková, Zuzana ; Kandert, Josef (advisor) ; Kotík, Michal (referee)
Objective of the bachelor thesis "Conception of justice and injustice in con- temporary society" is to describe and analyze how people in contemporary Czech society understand the concepts of justice, injustice, and fair and unfair treatment. In the first part of my work I am focusing on the theoretical background of the matters of justice. There I am interested in different types and possible bases of justice, as well as in philosophers who have tried to define justice. This is followed by a practi- cal part of the thesis, which deals with the methodology and the research itself. The research was conducted through semi-structured interviews with 10 respondents. Du- ring the analysis, I try to investigate not only the respondents' definitions of view of justice and injustice, but also concepts with which they identify or associate justice, even terms that their concept of justice conflicts with. The final section provides a comparison of research results to the initial hypotheses and comparison of practical and theoretical parts.
Crossfit Body, Habiitus and Lifestyle
Malíková, Gabriela ; Grygar, Jakub (advisor) ; Kotík, Michal (referee)
This paper is concern on defining the term "habitus" within crossfit. Crossfit is new sport phenomena which is differently accepted in sport society. It can be supposed that due to its specifics crossfit is attracive for specific group of people and crossfit can be considered as a part of style aferwards. The theoretic part is based on assumptions of Marcel Mauss, who defined habitus as aspects of culture which are embodied to body throw daily practiques and resulted in acquired abilities, Pierre Bourdieu, who connected habitus with terms as capital, social field and style, and Loic Wacquant, who added the dimenstion of bodily capital, which concrete form can be seen as projection of culture values. By way of enthnography, and followng interviews these research questions are supposed to be answered: How does crossfit habitus look like? How is reproduced? Which life style can be associated with crossfit? How can be crossfiters characterized in social space?
Youth and the Fear of Death
Halamásek, Šimon ; Balon, Jan (advisor) ; Kotík, Michal (referee)
This thesis focuses on death, fearing of death and the way youth is perceived by western society as a preferred era in the life of an individual. It defines youth as a sociodemographic category and examines the problematic role of youth in modern society. It offers an insight into historical perspectives on death, fear of it and how these perspectives have changed. It examines Plato's theory of reincarnation, medieval Christianity's stance towards death, Hume's critical view of whether a soul actually exists and Heidegger's perception of death as an authentic way to end one's life. The thesis emphasizes the fear of death in modern society and the absence of relevant thanatological literature that would approach death in modern society as a complex phenomenon. It notices the ambivalent attitude towards youth in the history of modern society and pinpoints the peculiar position of youth the 20th century. It includes both the rise of the so- called death awareness movement in the second half of 20th century, as well as the hospice movement, that slowly brings brings back the original and private meaning of death into society. This thesis also examines whether the current modern society is in fact death- denying. At its very end, the thesis ponders about the possible future of death as a phenomenon in the modern...
