Pylyp Orlyk and International Relations in the 18th Century Europe
Poian, Lucie ; Mokryk, Radomyr (advisor) ; Příhoda, Marek (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the foreign policy activities of Pylyp Orlyk (1672−1742), a close associate of Ivan Mazepa and Ukrainian hetman in exile in 1710−1742. While in exile, Orlyk repeatedly tried to sway the European courts to the idea of an autonomous Cossack state. This paper presents the ideological sources of his political orientation, analyzes the goals of his diplomacy, as well as the means by which they were achieved. Hetman's efforts are set in the broader context of European diplomacy in the first half of the 18th century and the context of the (proto)Ukrainian foreign policy tradition. The work has the potential to provide new insights into the historical perception of Ukrainian space in Europe, which makes it deeply topical. It draws on relevant monographs by Ukrainian and foreign authors and edited sources. Key words: Ukraine, cossacks, 18th century, Ivan Mazepa, autonomy, Rzeczpospolita
Ivan the Terrible in Russian Cinema
Filipčenko, Kamilya ; Příhoda, Marek (advisor) ; Leshkova, Olga (referee)
(in English): The focus of this work is a depiction of tsar Ivan the Terrible and his government in Russian films. The interest in the historical figure of the first Russian tsar has been persisting among filmmakers since the beginning of cinematography in Russia. This is the most complex and interesting, but also one of the cruellest characters in world history. Over the years the image of Ivan the Terrible was transforming in motion pictures, so for the analysis of this change were selected films from different periods of Russian history - tsarist, soviet, and current time. The theme is understood from a diachronic perspective. Additionally, this work is examining the historical context in which the filmmakers were located and the external influences that acted on them and their work. As this work will show most of the selected films held a negative stand on the image of the tsar Ivan the Terrible. Only during Stalin's era, the image of the Muscovite's ruler has been changed in many ways to suit the ideological requirements of that time.

Brůha, Petr ; Příhoda, Marek (advisor) ; Tumis, Stanislav (referee)
The main topic of the thesis is the investigation of the Polish influence on Russia during the Time of Troubles, as it's described by the Russian writers of the first half of 17th century in their Historical narrations. In the first part of the work there is introduced the Time of Troubles as a phenomenon that significantly influenced all its contemporaries. The thesis also pays attention to the historical sources, to their causes and circumstances of creation and also some of their authors. In the most extensive part of the work there are, based on extensive source material, discussed various topics that are focused on the Polish factor on the Russia during the period. There is mentioned the Polish support of False tsars, who aspire to the tsar title, the king's Zikmund military intervention and also the final victory of Russian militia over foreign interventionists. In conclusion there are compared individual historical narrations with each other, if there are any different topics that they describe or if they describe any element of Polish intervention in the same way or if there is any connection between the authors' lives and their works.

Leshkova, Olga ; Příhoda, Marek (advisor) ; Čermák, Václav (referee)
The objective of the master's thesis is to analyze the image of foreigners in Moscovian texts written during the Time of Troubles and soon after it in early 17th century. The thesis will also focus on the perception of foreign influence on political and cultural development of Russian state and society. Due to the fact that the perception of foreigners in Muscovite Russia can be regarded in many aspects as a result of traditional religious and historical thinking concepts which had been widespread in the country by the end of the 16th century, we will pay particular attention to the formation of medieval Moscovian thinking. By means of discourse and comparative analysis we will try to fulfil the following goals: 1) to study the religious and historical thinking formation process in medieval Russia up to the beginning of the 17th century; 2) to analyze various specific features of Moscovian texts from early 17th century in terms of foreigners' perception; 3) to put the issue of foreigners' perception into a wider cultural and historical context, especially with regard to appropriate literature and thinking tradition. This study is based on Moscovian texts of different nature, which reflect the Time of Troubles. We also use a wide range of appropriate secondary literature. Key Words: Time of...

The conception of the Soviet period in Russian school textbooks after 2000
Šolle, Cyril ; Příhoda, Marek (advisor) ; Leshkova, Olga (referee)
The main focus of this work is the interpretation of soviet period in contemporary Russian historic textbooks. The text describes the evolution of textbooks and the politics of Russian government in the field of historical education. I am also mentioning the previous periods - the 90s and glasnost. The theme is understood from diachronic perspective. As the work shows the development between these periods can be relatively conclusively defined. After the plurality of historical interpretations in the glasnost period and the 90s there is a shift under the patronage of Putin that tends to unify the textbook's interpretations and points out their socializing (meaning identification) role with the help of patriotic interpretations of historical events. I examined the textbooks with the help of narrative analysis, this analysis is explained in more detail in the first segment of the work. Narrative analysis is used in a way that points out the development mentioned earlier - with help of Hayden White's method I examined potential of socialization in the textbook's interpretations, that grows stronger with the changes that took place after the year 2000. The next method of narrative analysis, which highlights the role of individual characters in the story, allowed me to point out the aspect seemingly common for...

Vacík, Ivo ; Pelikán, Jan (advisor) ; Příhoda, Marek (referee)
This dissertation 1S leaded by two goals. The first one is to show the controversial posture of the first Croatian president from the Croatian society point of view. For this purpose I use the biographies of Franjo Tudman and the politicallysatirical magazine "Feral Tribune". The second goal is to make Czech readers aware of the Croatian social phenomenon which is "Feral Tribune", the only real opposing and the most critical magazine of Franjo Tudman' s govemment and also remarkable factor of creating democracy and liberty which has developed in the nineties of the 20th century. Again - I use Franjo Tudman as an example. By these two examples we can easily see the entire atmosphere of the Croatian society in the last decade of the 20th century and the beginning of new mi11ennium. Part of this text is also a description ofthe media market situation during the Franjo Tudman's leadership.
Veniamin and Juraj Križanić in Russia
V případě Veniamina v údobí vymezeném ukončením formální závislosti moskevského vládce na tatarských chánech (1480), sjednocením velké části severovýchodní Rusi do jednoho celku s centrem v Moskvě a dobou Ivana IV.
