Gold in late iron age in Bohemia

This bachelor's thesis deals with the gold in the late Iron Age. The aim is a comprehensive description and summarization of current natural scientific and archaeological knowledge of mining, processing and use of the gold in the late Iron Age, with emphasis on the Czech territory. The work consists of three parts. The first part focuses on the geology of gold. The second part is devoted to mining archeology, and the third relates to gold in the context of the late Iron Age in Bohemia. In conclusion, there are proposed areas that need attention if we look for the direct evidence of precious metal mining in the late Iron Age. An important part of this work is to inform the Czech professionals with the not well kown but more unique achievements of French archeology in proving mining gold in a similar environment and cultural terms and time frame. The Relationships between Bohemia and Gaul from 4th to 1st century. BC.

This work will introduce the relationships between Bohemia and Gaul from 4th to 1st century BC, mainly based on previous documentation, originating from research history and monographic issues, concerning particular types of artefacts. A range of 61 of them, constituting 230 items, has so been defined, forming as many "contacts features" between both areas. These features allow underlining the dynamic in theses contacts, even on chronological and spatial ground. The function of some sites (Stradonice, Manching) or areas (Switzerland, Rhine-Moselle) is so emphasized. The performing of quality and quantity data is completed by researches concerning the form of contacts that can be considered (exchanges, migration, aso.). The second stage of the analysis process is bringing out some procedure difficulties, proving that archaeological data by themselves are necessary but not sufficient to answer these questions.

Tuchlovice mikroregion in the latène and Roman period

This submitted thesis summarizes archaeological data about Iron Age and roman period settlement activity in the area of Tuchlovický potok downstream. Main focus is given to the elaboration of archaeological excavations, which were carried out in the years 1967 and 1968 by A. Knor and J. Zeman. The excavations followed up a large drain trench between Tuchlovice and Srby (district Kladno, Central Bohemia), where K. Motyková detected in the year 1966 the rests of roman period settlement with organic finds. Thirteen probes unearthed relatively widely spread rests of settlement, which was probably buried by a flood. The analysis of pottery sherds allows dating of the excavated settlement mainly to the 1.st century AD. Sampled wooden finds were submitted to dendrochronological surveys, but the recorded tree ring curve didn't match any so far known. Most important finds are a part of wooden fence and a piece from composite wooden jar. Other wooden artifacts and finds do not allow any functional interpretation. The research carried pointed to a great potential of this site for answering a wide spectrum of questions about prehistorical settlement sites and their relation to environment. The excavations also brought some rarely found organic finds like pollen, rests of plants and some other.

The Cispadane Boi and the problem of the origin of the oppida in the Central Europe

This thesis is the question of origin zaalpských2 late laténských oppida or one more argument, developed in response to this question. This theory, situated oppida central source of inspiration in northern Italy in populated Celtic Fighting strain found among Czech researchers a response: become an essential building block model that was developed for the creation oppida in Bohemia and who can despite some objections that have been vysloveny3 against him with some exaggeration, the official Czech position on the issue of Archaeology. I do not share the thought template on the basis of this theory was developed, and yet (and thus more likely) I find it interesting look again free from the interpetaačního key to verify its individual components and arguments, ask how much evidence they are on their own, how much of each other package and how it is supporting as a whole.

Trade and exchange during the La Tene period in Bohemia and Moravia

Cílem této práce je nastínit podobu obchodu a směny v Čechách a na Moravě v pozdní době laténské. Tedy v období charakterizovaného rozvoJem oppid, jejich systému i dalším kulturním a řemeslným rozvojem. Mojí hlavní snahou bylo zaměřit se na popsání obchodních kontaktů, které byly podmíněny existencí vyspělého hospodářství a na základě popisu jednotlivých typů zboží se pokusit postihnout systém v rámci kterého bylo vyráběno a distribuováno. Mezi mladší a pozdní dobou laténskou nedochází k žádnému zlomovému technickému pokroku, nicméně v rámci množství zboží produkovaného v pozdní době laténské dochází k obrovskému rozvoji. Protože hospodářský vývoj mezi těmito obdobími byl kontinuální, není se ani otázce obchodu v pozdní době laténské možné věnovat odděleně od obchodu předchozího období. Vzhledem k této skutečnosti se ve své práci částečně zmiňuji i o období mladší doby laténské. Jedním z okruhů, který v předkládané práci popisuji, je definice obchodu a směny společně s nástinem dějin bádání o otázce obchodu v keltské společnosti a možností užití písemných a archeologických pramenů. Zvláštní kapitolu tvoří pojednání o typech kontaktů, které byly příčinou přemístění předmětů z místa jejich výroby do jiné oblasti. Další oddíl se věnuje typům předmětů, se kterými bylo obchodováno. La Tene period sunken-floored houses in Bohemia

Tato práce se věnovala dosavadním výsledkům bádání v oblasti pozdně halštatských a laténských polozemnic. Za cíl si kladla shromáždit publikované, a pokud to bylo možné, i některé nepublikované prameny, na jejichž základě mělo být vytvořeno třídění polozemnic, které ukázalo, jaké druhy zahloubených staveb se vyskytovaly na území Čech od pozdně halštatského období do konce doby laténské. Bylo zjištěno, že nejvíce objektů se váže ke stupňům H D - LT A, pro které je charakteristická různorodost konstrukcí, a jak ukázala kapitola Funkce polozemnic, pravděpodobně můžeme v tomto období očekávat i rozličné využití těchto staveb. Vývojový zlom mezi stupni LT A a LT B přinesl typ stavby Břešťany - Vikletice, který nebyl do této doby neznámý, nicméně jeho postavení v rámci ostatních staveb nebylo zdaleka tak dominantní jako od této chvíle. Do konce laténského období již pak architektura zahloubených staveb nedoznává žádných výrazných změn. Zahloubené chaty byly roztříděny do 4 skupin nejdříve podle počtu a následně podle umístění kůlových jamek. Na základě takového rozdělení bylo posléze možné pokusit se rekonstruovat předpokládanou podobu staveb. Roztřídění polozemnic zároveň ukázalo, že stejně jako nebylo možné prokázat výraznější chronologickou citlivost zahloubených staveb, není možné ani doložit příliš...

Graves of Bylany culture from Lovosice against a background of local settlement

The rescue archeological research on the locality Lovosice II - Industrial Zone Aoyama under the direction of The Institute of Archeological Research and Preservation of Historical Monuments in Most was a material base and resource for the labour of a bachelor degree. The Institute granted also the funeral findings from the older Iron Age, the three graves of Bylany culture were chosen for this labour. The archeological locality Lovosice (Czech republic, Region of Ústí nad Labem, township Litomice) laying in geomorphologic structured countryside of eské stedohoí belongs to one of the most endangered and at the same time the most explored prehistoric territory of the north-west Bohemia. There is documented practically continuous habitation from Neolithic age to the present and also the intersection of the distance trading ways. The Bylany culture is above all known for its funeral findings. The group of the amply equipped burials with the wagons, yokes, toggeries and armature are specific for this culture. In addition to this group the low equipped graves were documented, in them the richest findings were missing and the synthetic works don't pay frequently enough attention to them. The settlement of Bylany culture in the region of Prague

Cílem mé bakalářské práce je shrnout dosavadní poznatky o charakteru a rozložení sídlišť bylanské kultury na území Prahy a vypracovat katalog lokalit zkoumaných po roce 1987 (resp. 1986). Časově se jedná o úsek necelých dvaceti let, které uplynuly od vydání kandidátské práce M. Fridrichové pod názvem Bylanská kultura ve středních Čechách. Vývoj osídlení. Úvodní část práce se snaží stručně zmapovat současné poznatky o charakteru bylanského osídlení na území Prahy, včetně přehledu dějin bádání. V souvislosti s materiálovou částí práce bylo nutné nastínit chronologii bylanské sídlištní keramiky, kterou na základě typologických skupin vypracovala. Fridrichová. Mým úkolem bylo předložit katalog nově prozkoumaných sídlištních lokalit bylanské kultury na území Prahy a v souvislosti s tím zpracovat sídlištní nálezy z nových výzkumů Muzea hlavního města Prahy, které mi laskavě zapůjčil Mgr. M. Kostka. Během zpracování bylo nutné přistoupit ke kritice pramenů a přehodnotit datování některých nových lokalit. Tímto se katalog rozšířil i o nálezy pozdně halštatské, což umožnilo v některých případech sledovat kontinuitu vývoje.

Settlement Kanín and problem of La Téne period farmstead

The bachelor work deals with current knowledge of La Téne farmsteads within the territory of Bohemia. The work also contains information about other types of settlement areas identified as farmsteads in the literature, such as rectilinear enclosures ("Viereckschanzen") and estates of farmstead type at oppida and unfenced planar residential agglomerations. The second part of the work deals with the Kanín site that was subject to the determination whether it was a La Téne farmstead or not, and further focuses primarily on the description of a ceramic set and a unique find of a ceramic fragment with a horse imprint.

The burial-ground of early Roman period in Ohnišťany (distr. Hradec Králové)

This BA dissertation evaluates archeological discoveries from a burial-ground dated back to the early Roman period which was discovered during a ploughing 1,4 km southeastern far from a village Ohnišťany (Distr. Hradec Králové). Most of the findings became a part of a depository of National Museum in Prague (56 finds). Eight graves with brooches, knifes, scissors and weapons are preserved. The disturbed graves have afforded a number of romanprovincial imports - bronze vessels (for example a service of a dipper and a strainer of a type Eggers 162 with a stamp of a producer C MANSVANNII) and brooches from eastern and western provinces. Distance contacts from territory of Baltic tribes are documented by a belt fastener. In the place of a present village a contemporary settlement is evidenced by field observations. The large number of imports evidently relate to a very good connection with a trade network.
