Islam and the Political System of Iran

The main topic of the diploma thesis is the influence of the islamic religion over the political system of The Islamic Republic of Iran. The thesis includes characteristics of the emergence of islam and expansion, and a summary of the main types of Islam, focusing on Shia Islam. Following is a summary of the development of the governmental units, which existed on the territory of todays Iran, including descriptions of the political systems. It focuses on the role of the social class of so called ulamá (Shia clerics). The thesis then characterizes the government of the Pahlavi Dynasty, the Islamic Revolution, and the current political system of Iran. Afterwards it describes the current domestic and foreign policies of Iran, the Iranian nuclear program issue, and human rights conditions in the country. The objective of the Thesis is to answer the following questions: what are the main reasons of Irans negative approach to the western world (particularly the USA) and of the negative approach of the western world (particularly the USA) towards Iran; whether or not it is possible to call the current political system of Iran an orthodox theocracy; and whether or not Irans politics can be a potentional threat for the stability of todays world.
Islámská revoluce v Íránu - k lepšímu nebo k horšímu?

The thesis focuses on the Islamic Revolution of Iran by a comparative analysis of the monarchy regimes before and after the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Although there is little doubt that the transformation of Imperial Iran to the Islamic Republic has played a vital catalyst in redrawing the "greater" Middle Eastern geopolitics ever since this thesis aims to compare the historical development of Iran during the monarchy and the effect of the revolutionary institutions brought on the Iranian society. Despite the extensive amount of resources used in this thesis being both from Iran and abroad, the author has made every effort to reduce the effects of the influences whether from the overzealous defenders of monarchy or the die-hard revolutionaries to a bare minimum and allow the facts on their own to project the picture through an objective lens. The goal of the thesis is for the objective research and comparison to try and provide a factual answer to the million-dollar question, whether the revolution was for better or for worse.
Party System Formation in Russia - a tendency to monocentrism

Research of process of forming of party system of Russia at the present stage acquires special relevance that is caused by changes of a political regime. Change of nature of a political regime, sharpening of personalistic, unicentric lines has caused search of a new format of party system which would minimize possibility of instability of a political regime and became the effective mechanism of maintenance of the status quo. Main goal of dissertation research is studying of forming of a tendency to a monotsentrichnost in development of party system of the modern Russian Federation. Hypotheses which have proved to be true have been formulated: forming of unicentric party system when using strategy of a party creation of the power and its positioning in political space I became reaction of political elite of Russia to a situation of democratic transit and manifestation of its pragmatical interests.
The 2015 Refugee crisis and politics of the Czech Republic

The theses deals with the most current problem of refugees stemming from the Syrian crisis, and the consequences the migration crisis can have for stability and the overall political situation in the chosen region. Due to the fact that the Syrian crisis is felt not only in the region, the aim of this thesis is to look at the impact of subsequent migrant crisis on the EU with focus on the Czech Republic. Despite various attempts by the international community, including the EU and the Czech Republic itself, to stabilise the situation the migration crisis is not, within a short and midterm time frame, closing to an end, and it is necessary to focus on possible negative consequences it may bring. The aim of this thesis is to uncover possible political repercussions. Even though, the Czech Republic is in reality afflicted by the migration wave on a minimal scale, the main hypothesis of this thesis is that the current migration wave has an influence on its political scene. The thesis is focusing especially on extremism in the Czech public and consequently in the political scene.
The civil war in Rwanda and the role of the UN in its resolving

The thesis deals with conflict between Tutsis and Hutus, which took place in the 90s in Rwanda, its historical causes, the process and the role of the international community in its solution. The thesis is focused particularly on the role of the UN in resolving the conflict -- on the analysis of the effect of the UN peacekeeping mission, the conditions of its deployment, the definition of its mandate and other factors that led to its failure. The work represents a contribution to the debate about the role of the UN in today's world, the analysis of the conditions and preconditions of its agility, the efficiency and potential changes in its structure and functioning.
Political vision of V. Klaus

The thesis analyses the thinking of Václav Klaus based on clashes with his rivals during his political career. The thesis works with hypothesis that Klaus is in this thinking connected with New Right, which was mainly present in world politics by Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. Values of Klaus are first analysed theoretically via analysis of conservatism, liberalism and finally their synthesis in so called New Right. Next part of the thesis provided evidence for hypothesis on national level, where Klaus was minister of finance and prime minister and third part on international level with Klaus as president of Czech republic. The hypothesis is confirmed at the end by summarizing evidence, which arose from particular chapters.
Reform of the electoral system in Ukraine 1990-2012

This thesis is focused on analyzing the reforms of the electoral system in Ukraine, during the period from gaining independence to the present. The main goal is to determine the reasons of the electoral reforms, and which political entities have become initiators of those changes in case of (non) existence inherent factors. The hypothesis of the thesis is whether political entities sought to maintain or strengthen its position in the Parliament, rather than contribute to the improvement of the electoral process.
The phenomenon of refugees in the Syrian civil war

This thesis deals with the current issue of refugees on the background of the Syrian civil war and its consequences for stability in the region. With regard to the fact that the crisis in Syria is felt throughout the entire Middle East region, the aim of this work is to map the impact of the conflict on neighboring countries of Syria. Based on the hypothesis, the effects of civil war and refugee phenomenon destabilize the whole region; therefore, my research question concerns political and social implications of the Syrian crisis in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey. The work also reveals the vulnerability of these countries, which find themselves in a dangerous situation resulting from the Syrian events. In terms of methodology, this work uses a variety of methods. My research relies especially on the methods of research, description, comparison, analysis and synthesis, historical method and interview method as well. Based on these methods, I will answer the research question through a wide range of impacts, covering security, political, social, ethnic, and economic issues of the analyzed countries.
The ethnic question and federalism: a comparison of the splits of Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia

The thesis outlines a comparative case study that focuses on the separation of the Communist Federation - Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. The main aim of the work is to analyze the relationship between the functionality of the Communist Federation and the limited solution of the ethnic issues inside the investigated states as one of the causes of their splits in the early 1990s. Further objectives of the work include an investigation into the similarities and differences in the development of the ethnic relations of the states and also an analysis in the way they separated. The author focuses on the question regarding whether or not the splits were inevitable or whether there were possibilities for the maintenance of the common states.
Transition to Democracy in South Africa and the role of the United Nations

The apartheid regime represented the official state ideology in South Africa in the time period from 1948 to 1994. The diploma thesis deals with the issue of South Africa's transition to democracy, in particular, it focuses on the role which was played by the United Nations in this process. Its activities can be sorted out into three main phases. The first phase dated between the years 1948 -- 1966 can be distinguished mainly by the key role played by the General Assembly. The second phase which took place in the period 1967 -- 1989 was primarily focused on the international campaign against apartheid and on the adoption of economic sanctions. The final and the most recent phase occurred in the early 90s (1990 -- 1994) and could be characterized by the role of the UN as a mediator of peace negotiations.
