View into the Albigesian wars - fire, sword and the cross of Occitania

On a break point between Early Middle Ages and High Middle Ages Christianity existed as it would have been in mist - the old pagan cults of Europe had been abandoning uneasy and slowly their positions and almost immediately they were replaced by a group of new cults - heresies. The first of them stepped into the light or were disclosed already in 11th century. During the next century the number of cases of discovered heretic communities increased in western and central Europe. In 12th century, the southern french region of Occitanie was found by suprised catholic Church as a land with very enlarged dualist heresy. From the beginning the church tried to challenge this situation, which was considered as increasingly endangering of Good order, by means of mission activity and relied on local nobelman and sovereigns. However, the evolution of this situation up to 13th century showed that local nobility had no interest on repressions and tolerated heresy while mission attempts and menace of canonical punishments raised general resistance. This resulted in the assassination of papal legate Pierre de Castelnau. This accident changed the attitude of Church into the proclamation of crusade and so it authorized the application of armed force. Organization and equipment of the army in 15th century: parallel development in France, Burgundy and in the Central Europe The form of the military organization, providing of food supply, technical possibilities and conditions of transport and, of course, a character of armament had share in qualities of the army during the late Middle Ages as well as in the other eras. In this context were important contemporary technical possibilities of the weapon production, commerce of weapons and last but not least also the attitude to the progressively developed group of weapons - firearms. Purpose of this thesis is comparison of aforementioned themes context between the middle Europe with the emphasis on Bohemian lands and francophone west Europe, presented by the kingdom of France both with the duchy of Burgundy. Final aim of this effort is searching of different specifics in the studied regions together with the detection of identical trends and influences. A military camp in the Hussite age

The aim of this thesis is to map everyday life in a military camp in the area of Bohemia during the period of Hussite wars, particularly in camps of an Utraquist as well as a Catholic army. It will concentrate mainly on various aspects of its everyday routine, such as supply, accommodation, camp fortification, a structure of command and camp management, but also on camp equipment. It will be founded on written and visual sources, as well as on normative and narrative (historiographical) records. The thesis will also introduce individual military orders. In more detail, it will be concerned with armour, clothing, and personal equipment of people dwelling in a military camp. Apart from this, it will focus on the issue of women and children (especially on their role and position) in a military camp. Furthermore, the thesis will differentiate between the form and the operation of a military camp led by a Catholic army from the form and the operation of a military camp led by an Utraquist army; and it will describe various types of these camps.
