Animal Rescue Centers and Their Use in the School Education
Kremrová, Johana ; Hanel, Lubomír (advisor) ; Andreska, Jan (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis (Rescue Stations for Handicapped Animals) was to find out how the rescue stations work, which laws regulate these institutions, what animals are most affected, how long they have to stay there on average or what is the success of returning to the wild nature. This work is mainly devoted to Czech rescue stations. Information about them has been found through questionnaires sent to these institutions with questions about their functioning, their patients, financing and employees. This questionnaire was sent to individual stations and their results were analyzed. A part of the analyses is also focused on the pedagogical side of the rescue stations, e.g. whether these facilities are attended by schools or if the staff of the stations is organizing discussions at schools. It has been found that most rescue stations are dedicated to environmental education and are trying to educate the public. That is very important, as many animals that get to rescue stations are very young animals that are unnecessarily removed from their parents. The result is, that need to grow up in rescue stations. Many permanently disabled animals must remain in these facilities, often helping the public in the context of education.
Space-time continuum links of announcements about deaths and injuries of birds in rescue stations in the Czech Republic.
HROMÁDKO, David
Birds represent the most frequent group of patients that rescue centers take care of. Road transport, glass panels, electric lines and poaching are main risk factors for birds in anthropogenic landscape. Thanks to rescue centers, many injured or endangered birds are cured and released into the wild every year. That is why rescue centers play an important role not only in environment protection but also in ecological education. This dissertation interprets causes of admisssions of birds wounded by anthropogenic lanscape. In this work I processed the databases of animal rescue centers during the period from 2008 to 2017. Those databases contained composition of the species, age, causes of admissions and follow-ups of injured birds within that period. Circumstances leading to admissions were also investigated from perspective or particular birds orders and their species composition. I also analysed links between sensitivity of birds orders towards impact of human activities on the environment together with quantity progress of admissions in particular years and in particular orders of birds. I also evaluated seasonal variation in number of admissions and relevance of birds age in regards to their injuries. Types of the injuries and zoological classification were also assessed. Most frequently rescue centers took care of birds from the order of passerines (Passeriformes). All in all, synanthropic species appear to be most vulnerable, which is significantly related to anthropogenic impact on the environment. In regards to age category non-independent juveniles were the ones who needed medical treatment most frequently.
Handling with injured birds in rescue centres
HROMÁDKO, David
Birds are the most frequent patients in rescue stations. Vehicular traffic, glass - fronted areas, power lines and also illegal hunting they all endanger birds in modern countryside. Thanks to rescue stations lots of birds injured in this way or ill ones are cured up and returned back to the wild. Thus rescue stations have a very important role in nature reservation as well as in ecological education. Presented work evaluates extent, means and success rate of handling and treatment of injured birds in rescue stations. The data concerning handling, treatment and aftereffects of the accidents of some injured and handicapped birds were found out in the following rescue stations: Záchranná stanice Třeboň při Českém nadačním fondu pro vydru (Rescue Station Třeboň under Czech Charitable Fund for the Otter), Stanice ochrany fauny Pavlov, o.p.s (Station for Fauna Protection in Pavlov, Social Enterpreneurship), Záchranná stanice pro zraněné živočichy na Huslíku u Poděbrad (Rescue Station for Injured Animals in Huslík near Podebrady) and Záchranná stanice pro živočichy ČSOP Vlašim (Rescue Station for Animals of the Czech Federation of Nature Protectors Vlašim). The numerical trend of the most common types of injuries was also carried out and in this case records of the rescue stations from 2008 2014 were used as the base. Each of the rescue stations has its own ways of treatment and handling the injured birds which sometimes differ from the ones in other stations. Some stations do not have any experience with some kinds of injuiries. The worst therapy is to cure poisoned birds and those burnt by electric current and poisoning. The most common cause of the receipt of birds in the mentoined stations was the hospital admission of non- independent young animals.
The current state in the protection of selected interest animals and wild animals.
KOUTNÍKOVÁ, Anna
The Bachelor's thesis deals with the current state of animal protection in the South Bohemian Region. It focuses on wild and selected companion animals. The main aim of the thesis has been to find out how many wild animals are being released back into nature from rescue stations and the numbers of companion animals placed with new owners. Further, the possibility of temporary accommodation of animals in hotels for dogs is explored. The thesis has been elaborated on the basis of information provided by representatives of individual organisations and companies. The data has been statistically analysed in charts and tables.
