Personality and Work of Jan Nepomuk Polasek (1873-1956)

This dissertation thesis focuses on the person and work of Jan Nepomuk Polášek (1873-1956), a distinguished regional composer and music teacher who spent a significant part of his life in Valašské Meziříčí. Throughout his life, Polášek devoted himself to creative work, which was, to a varying degree, inspired by the Moravian Wallachian folk culture. The thesis outlines the important phases of Polášek's life including his childhood and school days, first contact with music teaching, his studies at the Brno Organ School, and, last but not least, his relationship with Leoš Janáček. The Biographical part of the thesis ends with a subchapter devoted to Polášek's work in Valašské Meziříčí until his death in 1956. Polášek's body of work includes his compositions, music-related organisational activities, music teaching, publishing and folk song collecting. The aforementioned activities are presented and analysed in the remaining chapters of this dissertation thesis. The final chapter analyses selected instrumental, vocal-instrumental and vocal compositions of Polášek's, based on which it illustrates the key elements of his creative work. This disertation turns its focus to one of the most significant personage of violin history. It portrays Eugène Ysaÿe not only as an interpret, conductor and pedagogist, but also as unconventional composer which established underlying milestone influented violin techniques of 20th century. We will point out to amity with leading artistic personalities which affected not only his evolution as composer. On musical examples, we will demonstrate his musical language, composition technique and personal input. This work should serve as complex oversight of Ysaÿe's life and persisting legacy.

Notable Personalities of the Post-War Musical Development of the region under Jestřebí Mouintains

This diploma thesis is based on the analysis of primary and secondary sources, including authentic memories of living witnesses. It focuses on important personalities of the musical life in the border region around the former Sudetenland, specifically on the life and work of selected composers, musicologists, teachers, choir masters , conductors, and active musicians working in the region below the Jestřebí Mountains - the area between Náchod and Trutnov, that is Červený Kostelec, Rtyně v Podkrkonoší, Malé Svatoňovice, Úpice, and Trutnov. These are personalities who contributed not only to the development of regional music, but also to the education of new talents, between the years of 1940 and 1980 of the 20th century (however, the work with its biographical character presents some overlaps to other eras, such as the pre-war era, the times of war, or the post-revolutionary era). In the presented text, individual biographies of selected musically-active individuals are reconstructed, during whose often difficult lives significant historical events (including social repressions) took place. The aim of this Thesis is to introduce Josef Wolfram, a composer and a former mayor of town of Teplice. Wolfram's life and works are presented using period resources. Special emphasis is laid on the analysis of the form and content of the opera Bergmönch. Wolfram's musical style is described using selected parts of this opera. The Thesis concludes by a description of Wolfram's legacy and efforts of raising awareness of his story.

The author of this thesis endeavours to create a comprehensive portrait of Hanuš Bartoň, a Czech contemporary composer, pianist, and academic educator. The thesis is focused on his compositions and his contribution as a pianist and a teacher with the aim to establish a practical source of information. This source ought to fulfil both its musicological potential, especially concerning the analysis of Czech classical music of the end of the 20th century up till now, as well as its potential in the field of education, noting Bartoň's works for children and his academic pedagogical contribution. The thesis is systematically organised into several parts. The main body starts with the composer's biography. The attention then moves to his compositions, which are systematically presented and commented on from the perspective of Bartoň's musical style development and its tendencies. His works adhere to the postmodern ideal considering the fact that the music deals in a specific way with the synthesis of stylistic elements. The scope of his oeuvre is relatively wide. Jaroslav Kofroň and his legacy

1 Abstract The author of this work pays attention to Czech musical personality Jaroslav Kofroň who is known primarily as an educator and author of pedagogical literature: The textbook of harmony; The textbook of rhythm and intonation. The main objective is to bring the essential information about the artist's compositional activity that is not known, although it is very rich and deserves more attention. According to the information the works are identified with the year of their implementation and available materials that are stored in libraries or on the website. The partial aim is a comprehensive and acquaints the public with the whole range of Kofroň personality that we perceive as a performer, a conductor, a choirmaster and a painter. Main chapter provides an overview of the composer's instrumental formation that includes the creation of orchestral, brass, chamber music, solo concerts. A huge attention is focused on the creation of the song, which contains over 600 songs, edited or composed both for solo singing voices and choirs: male, female, children's and mixed. It also identified spiritual music, stage and production for children there. O. F. Korte and his compositions for violin

This bachelor's thesis titled O. F. Korte and his compositions for violin is divided into four chapters. In the first two chapters, I introduce composer's life, compositional work and circumstances, which influenced him in his work and were inspiration for him. After, there are briefly described four compositions of his work. The second part of this bachelor's thesis describes compositions, composed for violin and piano. The first one is “Philosophical dialogues” and the second one is “Elihu contra Job”. In this compositions the reasons of origin in detail, their premieres and individual parts are being described. Penultimate chapter contains thematic motif analysis of all four movements of “Philosophical dialogues”.
