Changes in the knightly clientele of the counts of Slavata in the first half of the 17th century

The master's thesis is focused on the change of the knightly clientele in the middle of 17th century. The main example is based on knights in the area of Jindřichův Hradec, which was situated in the south-east of the Kingdom of Bohemia and in the south-west of the Moravian Margraviate. The first chapters deal with the change of client relations and their everyday lifestyle. It discusses the personality of the patrons and the change of the dominion of Jindřichův Hradec. Until 1604, the patrons were lords of Hradec and then the Slavata of Chlum and Košumberk. The main part of the thesis, based on scientific literature, published and unpublished sources tries to imitate the lives and property conditions of the knightly clients, namely, Babkové of Meziříčko, Čabeličtí of Soutice, Hodějovští of Hodějov, Lipovští of Lipovice, Malovcové of Malovic, Růtové of Dírná, Vencelíkové of Vrchoviště, Vratislavové of Mitrovice, Zahrádečtí of Zahrádky. The work also attempts to capture the Slavatov clientele as a structure that changed under the influence of the events of the Thirty Years' War, post-White-Mountain confiscations and the Counter-Reformation.
Religious composition of the lower nobility in South and West Bohemia at the beginning of the 17th century

The diploma thesis analyses one source which contains almost 100 names of knights living mainly in Prácheňsko and Plzeňsko during the end of 16th and the beginning of 17th century. In the first part of the thesis, literature describing early-modern-age society and nobility is introduced. Afterwards, there is a list of sources which used different approaches to research the topic of knights. Subsequently, the description of the analysed source is present. It is followed by the list of entries which were created based on the information mentioned in the analysed source. Each knight has their own entry paragraph. Every entry contains information about their families, property, court, or state offices. If possible, a note about their confession is included. In the last part of the thesis, the analysed source is dated based on the acquired knowledge about the knights' lives. It is also set into the context of historical development. The information about the knights' property, offices and confessions are summarized at the end of the thesis.

The work presents by in-depth analysis of building development of the chosen seats and their history the level of material culture of lower nobility in defined period.
Communication of České Budějovice and the lower nobility at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries

This diploma thesis deals with the research of communication between the town council of České Budějovice and representatives of the lower nobility between 1581 and 1584 and later with the interruption from 1602 to 1604. Its aim is to describe the content of mutual correspondence and interpret it in the context of the history of the South Bohemian region. It presents a typology of correspondence in order to identify the most common topics that occurred in the mutual communication of the city council and representatives of the lower nobility. The specific arguments used by the councilors of České Budějovice also became the subject of interest. This approach helped to clarify the identity that the burghers represented through the documents of the city office. Finally, it examines the settlement of representatives of the lower nobility. It was reconstructed using data from correspondence and tax registers. In conclusion, the thesis summarizes the findings and offers possible directions that could be followed in future research.
The creditors of the last members of the Rožmberk house

The thesis Věřitelé posledních Rožmberků (The creditors of the last members of the Rožmberk house) engages in creditors of Vilém of Rožmberk in the years 1589 1592, especially in the creditors whose claims his brother Petr Vok of Rožmberk took on after the death of Vilém of Rožmberk in 1592. The thesis based on from the list of the rožmberks debts that preserved in the State Regional Archives in Třeboň. The thesis attemptes achieve "the collective biography" of these creditors with the use of prosopographic method and find the commons signs that connected these creditors.
The Feudo-vassal System on Royal Estates in Early Modern Bohemia

Markéta Novotná Abstract - The Feudo-vassal System on Royal Estates in Early Modern Bohemia The study is devoted to the topic of feudo-vassal relations in early modern Bohemia presented on a sample of specific royal and chamber domains at the castle Karlštejn. The first part of the thesis describes how the feudo-vassal tenures were treated in Czech and European historical studies, using impulses from the philosophy and sociology. The others chapters are dedicated to the main object of this analysis - to the Karlštejn vassal system - a group of small-sized estates connected to castle Karlštejn through feudo-vassal bonds. The second chapter of the thesis deals with the problem of historical consciousness, where the castle Karlštejn is imagined as the site of "the national memory", which strongly effected the interpretation of the Karlštejn vassal system. The third (main) part of the thesis presents the factual analysis of the Karlštejn vassal system from the last third of sixteenth century to the turn of the seventies and the eighties of the next century. Everyday Life of Gentry: Jan Jeníšek of Újezd and Svrčovec Based on His Register

The aim of the thesis is to examine a unique source so called The White Registers by Jan Jeníšek of Újezd and to Svrčovec (†1565) dating between 1539-1561. The lower nobleman Jan Jeníšek lived in the Svrčovec fortress close to the town of Klatovy. He recorded his private notes for his memory. He wrote about his economical acitivies including trade and legal matters and disputes which he led with neighbouring noblemen, burghers and subject people. Thanks to regular, frequent and detailed records the White Registers allow to introduce everyday life of a member of the lower nobility of the 16th century.
The beginning of family with half-moon in the coat of arms. Knights of Vřesovice in the late Middle Ages

The theme of this thesis is history of the knights (later lords) of Vřesovice in the late Middle Ages. The work deals mainly with political and economic role of the family members in the late medieval Bohemia, with special attention to the hussite captain Jakoubek of Vřesovice, who was mainly responisible for family rise. Furthermore, this work tries to answer the question, what happened to the family of Vřesovice since Jakoubek's death until the late Middle Ages, because during the 16th century, knights of Vřesovice belonged to the most powerful aristocratic families in Bohemia. Family members from the times of king George and Jagellonian rulers were not yet reflected by many historians. Fates of individual family members are assessed and placed into historical context. The work deals with property relations of knights of Vřesovice and manifestations of their aristocratic representation. As a whole, the work probes into political, economic, cultural and social life in late medieval northwest Bohemia. My dissertation deals with personality of Jan Sádlo of Smilkov, who was a noble man in king's sevices and who lived at he turned of 13th and 14th century. Dissertation tries to express elemental aspects of his life, which determined his life and this dissertation also tries to complete missing information about his family, property and also tries to find in which community he could be found and with whom he kept in touch with and how can these persons influence his personality. Dissertation also deals with his career, mainly his activity in king's Václav IV. court, where he became a influential person, who became involved in political situation in country during the beginning of hussite revolution. In dissertation is also covered his political downfall and his death. The aim of the work is to introduce readers to the life of a member of lesser nobility - Jan Jenisek of Ujezd and Svrcovec. Information was obtained by processing of economic and business notes which were recorded by Jan Jenisek between the years 1550 and 1552. The notes represent unique source for exploration of everyday life and work. Readers are given the opportunity to find out how legal disputes were solved, how farming, breeding and trading of commodities was conducted. Important part of the thesis is also the picture of Jan Jenisek himself, his character and relations with members of all society classes.
