Landscape painting by Julius Mařák and the legacy of his work (theoretical-practical thesis)

The theoretical part of this qualification thesis describes landscape painting and the work of Julius Mařák. The first part describes the development of the depiction of landscape motifs in the history of art and the development of landscape painting in the 19th century. Readers are also introduced to the life of the artist Julius Mařák and his legacy. The practical part is inspired by the work of Julius Mařák and focuses on paintings of forest interiors.

The first chapter of the theoretical part of this bachelor thesis is devoted to an outline of the art-historical development of the depiction of the forest, with the foundations of this research based on the landscape painting development and the way the society of the mentioned periods viewed the forest. This chapter describes selected periods from prehistoric times to the present and mentions some artists who have dealt with the subject in their work. The second chapter describes the life and work of Antonín Slavíček, with a bigger focus on his paintings of forest interiors. In the practical part, the author focuses on the painting of pine forests, where she is freely inspired by Slavíček's artistic expressions and uses the theoretical background presented in the first chapter of the theoretical part of the bachelor thesis.

In my bachelor thesis I would like to explore a painting approach analogous to the processes in nature. How the landscape transforms through artists into artwork. I create a structural archetype, a matrix with which I continue to work. But the resulting image becomes a matrix under the matrix, which as the imprint of the physical approach represents the spiritual message, the existential essence. A similar fact to this approach is my relationship to the landscape.
Paolo Fiammingo in Venice

Thesis on subject of Paolo Fiammingo in Venice focuses on a personality of a Netherlandish painter, who lived in Venice the most important part of his productive life. Text of the thesis resumes knowledge on his origin, regarding existing literature it suggest, that there is not enough documentation of his staying or apprenticeship until he came to Venice. In this regards, it also concludes, that he was not famous until he took part in Tintoretto's workshop in Veneto. Thesis researches possible Tosca and Roma mannerism influences of his later works by an analysis his later work and in the light of existing literature. Main part of the thesis concerns on Paolo's sojourn in Venice, which started probably in Tintoretto's workshop. Within workshop daily praxis, he was contributing in finishing some specific commissions of his Master with his apprentice colleagues. Thesis brings some witnesses concerning workshop life and also way the completed work took from the workshop to commissioner. The other part of this work turns awareness to his independent production in Venice and its close connection to his transalpine commissions. Chapters on the theories of sublime and their reflection in fine art

The bachelor thesis is dealing with the term sublime in both theoretical and practical level. The development of theories of the sublime and its reflection in fine art is analyzed from the antiquity to the 19th Century. The reflection in fine art in the ancient times is shown on the statue of Niobé from Apollon temple in Rome. In chapters on the Romantic period the term sublime is reflected in landscape painting in Bohemia, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, Norway and America. The emphasis is put on the reflection in works of two artists- British painter Joseph William Turner and German painter Caspar David Friedrich.
Landscape of "Železné hory" (Iron Mountains) as a painting theme

The diploma thesis is divided into three parts to meet the requirements of the Department of Art Education. The main part consists of an artistic - historical chapter, which discusses the phenomenon of painting in the Iron Mountains as a place for the development of landscape painting at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The work focuses on the analysis of landscape motifs in a given locality. He compares the motifs that inspired painters and seeks their connection to the work of other painters and puts them in the context of open-air painting. The chapter deals in detail with five painters, other painters are mentioned marginally due to the need for context. The choice of motifs does not differ from the motifs painted in other areas. The specificity of painting in the Iron Mountains lies in the simplicity of the landscape and its colors. The motifs here are mainly rivers, the Iron Mountains, rural cottages around Ronov nad Doubravou, Kraskov, and last but not least in stonehouses. Other motifs include motifs with a path, ponds, especially the Utopenec pond near Ronov nad Doubravou, Lichnice castle. The painters often take over the composition of the paintings from their predecessors. The next part - comments, represent their own work based on a comparison of the motif of the images created...

Grave, Tombstone, Graveyard. The Range of Motifs of the Czech Painting of the 19th Century

(in English) This thesis called Grave, Tombstone, Graveyard. The Range of Motifs of the Czech Painting of the 19th Century is based on the analysis of paintings, drawings and graphics made by Czech authors throughout the 19th century. Artists worked with funeral motifs in different ways and these will be presented in different case studies. Some painters were fascinated by these subjects and they turned their attention to them systematically and repeatedly throughout their career. Other artists worked with funeral motifs rarely, although significantly. Artists integrated motifs of graves, monuments and cemeteries to their pieces of art for different purposes; this was connected with the interest of Romanticism in aesthetic anomalies and mystery, with their personal experience and feelings. Artists were also interested in genre scenes that were situated in cemeteries. Funeral motifs can be found in illustrated journals as well. Their aim was to document the specific place and as to symbolically express the finality of the life. The pieces of art will be presented in the context of the burial rites and literature of the 19th century. This phenomenon was also reflected by foreign artists, some of them will be also mentioned in the thesis as an analogy to the Czech works.
