The work was devoted to the current situation in horse breeding in the Czech Republic and its aspects, which included nutrition, equipment, stables, farrier and veterinary care. The aim of the work was to summarize the costs for individual areas of breeding and for selected groups of horses. Market research and interviews with operators of active, grazing and box concealment in the South Bohemian Region were used as a source of information. The conclusion of the work contained a comparison of costs and returns in horse breeding and recommendations for practice were written.

Horse Breeding and Training Farm

This site serves as a sport and recreation facility for breeding and training horses. Also hippo therapies will take place here therefore it is barrier-free. The whole compound is divided into three buildings different by usage. Each building’s top view is semi-circular; these semi-circles are formed from segments. The first building is for the public and is structurally as well as operationally separated from the other two buildings. This contrast is emphasized by different facade materials. The entrance hall, restaurant with its facilities, horse riders’ clubroom, office, rehabilitation area, pension and the emergency flat of an administrator are situated here. The two-floor building with pension is bricked, with monolithic ceiling and plastering on the facade. The other two buildings serve as horse stables with auxiliary operation and a riding hall with stands. These two buildings are designed as two one-floor wooden structures. The organic shapes are chosen in the harmony with surrounding nature.

The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of nutrition of pregnant mares and is processed in the form of a literature search. At the beginning of the thesis there is an introduction to the subject, which is devoted to the characteristics of the equine sexual cycle and foaling. The aspects that influence them are described, as well as the reproductive and digestive organs, the development of the foal in the mother’s body and a description of the body score condition of the horse. Subsequently, two chapters are focused to the nutritional requirements of mares in early and late foaling and the differences between them. The last chapter describes specific types of feeds and their suitability for broodmares. Selected complete feed mixtures – granules and mueslis – are also summarised, with a description of their composition, recommended dosage and in tables is shown the content of the most important essential nutrients – digestible energy, starch, nitrogenous substances, fat, fibre, calcium, phosphorus, vitamins A and E and lysine.

Českomoravský belgický kůň a jeho využití v minulosti a současnosti

The bachelor thesis describes the history and breeding of the Czech-Moravian Belgian horse breed. Its development, current rearing and areas of its use. This breed is also referred to as the Belgian horse, or the Belgian draft horse is the most common breed of cold-blooded horses. Part of the bachelor thesis is an analysis of the frequency of use of stallions in insemination. Stallions in Tlumačov and Písek stud farms were monitored. Data collection took place in the case of Tlumačov between 2009 and 2020. Data for the years 2012 to 2019 were collected in the Písek. The percentage of conception of these stallions was evaluated. There were 11 stallions working in the stud farm in Písek, with which a total of 176 mares were inseminated. The average conception in this stud farm is 58.86 %. There were 9 stallions in Tlumačov, with which 200 mares were inseminated, with an average conception value of 68.90 %

Horse breeding and practical lessons at elementary school

The main goal of this bachelor thesis in its theoretical part was to elaborate on the topic of horse breeding, regarding the basic knowledge of horse care, tools for the horse care, rider's equipment, stabling, feeding, types of equestrian sports and contact of children and horses. In the practical part, an educational programme was created, designed for the pupils of the 9th class of elementary school, which are in the process of making the decision about their future secondary school. The pupils try during the programme how to do the basic horse care, how to saddle and put on headgear, such as a bridle or a halter. The educational programme was tested on a group of 15 pupils and is ready to be used on other groups.

Horse breeding in organic farming in South Bohemia

The theoretical part of bachelor thesis describes conditions of horses bred in organic farming system. The assessment of horse breeding on organic farms in South Bohemia based on questionnaire and interviews with farmers represents the practical part. 70 farmers were willing to provide the required information. It was found out, that respondents had bred 36 breeds mostly in small numbers of horses per farm. 41.4 % of respondents used alternative medical treatments in horse medical care. The most favorite were herbs and homeopathy. Outdoor management systems prevailed and 70 % of farms provided shelter to their horses on pasture or paddock. Individual hand mating and artificial insemination were common ways of reproduction on the farms. Foaling took place on pasture as well as in stable. 48.6 % of respondents used natural horse training methods. Horses were mostly used for tourist and recreational riding and for landscape maintenance. The main business activity on farms was cattle farming (64.3 %). 24.3 % of farms consider their horse farming to be profitable.

"Full stable lead in paradise." Organized horse breeding in the Czech country from 16 century to the first half of the 20th century

The presented diploma thesis deals with historical development of the organized horse breeding in the Czech lands, with a special focus on the provincial breeding of distinct farm type. The main research was carried out in the sphere of activities of the present Provincial Stud Farm in Písek (?Zemský hřebčinec Písek?). The reason for choosing this breeding institute is the fact that it concerns the only provincial stud farm in the Czech lands that was offering to breeders both warm-blooded and heavy stud horses in the monitored period while their numbers were adjusted in accordance with the demand of mare owners. The diploma thesis can be divided in two parts. The first part provides readers with the introduction to the issue of individual types of horses and puts the work in a broader historical context. This block includes also an iconographic analyse of the paintings with hippologic themes and the texts comparing breeding of horses in the aristocratic and courtly environment in the first half of the 17th century, using an example of the Imperial Courtly Stud Farm in Kladruby nad Labem (?Císařský dvorní hřebčín Kladruby nad Labem?) and Smrkovice?s Game Preserve of Albrecht from Valdštejn (?smrkovická Obora Albrechta z Valdštejna?) in the region of Nový Bydžov. The second part describes the key research of horse breeding in the Czech lands, for the most part built on the mating protocols of the station of farm stud horses in Humpolec, and includes the strategies of breeders in this region compared with the other regions under administration of the Provincial Stud Farm in Písek. It deals mainly with breeding of trendy heavy horses of Belgian and Noric breed demanded by farmers, while these horses were experiencing their last big growth in the first half of the 20th century.
