The Influence of US Military Units on the Peruvian Communist Movements Sendero Luminoso and MRTA during the Fujimori Era

This bachelor thesis with the name "The Influence of US Military Units on the Peruvian Communist Movements Sendero Luminoso and MRTA during the Fujimori Era" analyze the period between 1990 and 2000, during the government of Alberto Fujimori. It approach the administration of Fujimori from military aspect, especially the influence of the U.S. military and intelligence units on the combat of the insurgents communist groups Sendero Luminoso and Movimiento Revolucionario Tupac Amaru. The thesis aims to examine whether the U.S. military and intelligence supoort had an influence on combating these insurgent groups. The relations and cooperations method between Peruvian and the U.S. military are analyzed. Other aspect of the thesis is examination of the support of the democracy making process in Peru by the U.S. administration. The U.S. policymakers had two main priorities in the Southern hemisphere: counterdrug agenda and democracy promotion. The thesis examines which one of these foreign policy goals was more important for the U.S.

The influence of the Taiwan's democratization on the cross-strait relations and on the prospect for completion of the Chinese unification

In my master thesis I analyze the influence of Taiwan's democratization on Cross- Strait relations. The thesis is structurally divided into three main periods: the pre- democratization period, democratization period and the period since the first power alternation in Taiwan. The first chapter analyzes the emergence of the Cross-Strait issue, the period of the Japanese colonization, the Post-Second World War Period, the Chinese Civil War and Cold War period until second half 80s. It points out the main external and internal factors, which influenced the Cross- Strait relations development and also the development of both Chinese states. The subject of the second chapter is the Taiwan's democratization and its internal and external leverage. Based on A. Przeworski's Theory of Games I am comparing the Taiwan's democratization to the Tiananmen incident. At the end of the second chapter I am comparing political system and regime of both Chinese states and I am pointing out salience of Taiwan for China. The final chapter examines the period of the first power alternation in Taiwan and how it influenced the Cross- Strait relations. It analyzes the issue of Taiwanese identity and sovereignty. Visegrad group V4: formation, results and perspectives for further cooperation

This thesis is dedicated to the sub-regional cooperation in Central Europe within the framework of the Visegrad Group. The aim of the thesis is to describe the role of the Visegrad cooperation in the democratic transformation of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia and integration to the EU and NATO. The thesis investigates the economic, political and cultural cooperation of the Visegrad Group since its establishment until today. In the conclusion I point out the viability of the Visegrad four in the enlarged EU, when the joint representation of Central Europe remains crucial and the experience of the Visegrad countries can be exemplary for the transformation of the EU's immediate neighborhood.

Struggle for democracy and human rights in Cuba - the role of dissidents and non-governmental organisations

The Bachelor Thesis "Struggle for democracy and human rights in Cuba - the role of dissidents and non-governmental organizations" concerns a role of dissident movement in a possible democratic transition. Firstly, the paper analyses the development of theories of democratization with detailed focus on the role of ordinary people and on the enforcement of civil movement by non-governmental organizations based on studies from Ackerman, Karatnycky, Welzel and Inglehart. Regarding Cuban dissident movement, on which the thesis focuses as an instrumental study, it examines every important part and challenge that the movement is obliged to face in order to become a mass movement. Moreover, the further parts concentrate on international democratic promotion, more specifically, on the American embargo, as an example of economic sanctions, and on the Cuban projects of two particular NGOs, as an example of diplomatic pressure towards wider respect of human rights and as an example of the strengthening process of civil movement. In the conclusion, the thesis discusses possible catalyzers of democratic change in Cuba, including the role of dissident movement, reinforced by projects of NGOs, as a crucial player in possible process of democratization.
