Use of language in CMC and its impact on daily used Portuguese Bachelor Thesis Portuguese Philology Charles University in Prague Author: Kamila Kohoutová Supervisor: PhDr. Jan Hricsina, Ph.D. Abstract The present thesis concerns use of a specific language code, typical for computer-mediated communication and online environment. Such code is more often than not associated with younger generations, namely the millennials and generation Z, and have been raising worries as to what impact it might have on teenage literacy and their capacity to properly communicate. The aim of the thesis is to verify whether use of Internet by these generations indeed may influence Portuguese language in a negative way. First, we present the topic in a concise way in the introduction part and then move to describing not only the social changes, but also technology innovations, remodelling the linguistic landscape over past centuries. We further investigate the direct impact that the Internet, as a medium, has had on language genres in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 is dedicated to categorizing the characteristics of netspeak and Chapter 4 focuses on the theory of code-switching. Impact of ICT on the English Language

The impact of ICT on the English language - Abstract This B.A. Thesis is trying to present in what ways is the English language affected by information and communication technologies, as they entered our everyday lives. The focus is on communication in the English language, as it was the first language of the world of computers. The thesis explains, why is that and furthermore gives an overview of advantages and drawbacks of computer mediated communication and its impact on the English language. Conclusions are then compared with the research which confirms, that the language was rather enriched than degraded and that the new elements of the language are in now way harmful to its core.
Social interaction of internet users described on the example of online music community

This bachelor thesis deals with the interaction between musicians and listeners on the internet. It describes selected communication tools of web 2.0, their benefits and drawbacks. The thesis is also concerned with the issue of self-presentation on the internet and the factors affecting it. Social communication on the internet is placed in the context of today's changing music industry. The thesis illustrates innovative usage of communication tools by musicians in six short case studies. The last part summarizes collected the findings of the research and offers an explanation as to why the social communication in music community will maintain its place in the future. Psychological aspects of membership in online communities

This thesis focuses on online communities - both their historic and current form. Various forms of communications are described, main focus is then given to identity online and self-presentation - various forms it can take, which expressive devices are used, how trustworthy is it and how is it perceived by other others. Influence of anonymity is mentioned. Empirical part of this work explores online friendship relations, cornerstone of the current wave of social networking services. It asks several questions about ways in which they affect communication between users. Relation between several factors (reciprocity, direction of initiation of said relation) and both quantity and frequency of communication between those users before and after that friendship is established.
