Mathematics textbooks for secondary schools from the point of view of beginning teachers.
KOSOVÁ, Kateřina
This master thesis deals with mathematics textbooks designed for the lower-secondary school. The aim of the work was to find out which mathematics textbooks are the mostly used by teachers in elementary schools in České Budějovice, how and to what extent teachers use textbooks and how do they evaluate them. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part defines the concept of a textbook, its function, structure, the issue of selection of a textbook and the results of research related to how teachers use textbooks. The practical part is based on a questionnaire survey carried out between teachers of mathematics at the lower-secondary school in Ceske Budejovice. At first, work procedure and the research method are described and then the results of the research are provided. Based on research, the most used textbooks for the sixth grade of elementary school are compared between themselves from the perspective of a novice teacher. The conclusion of the practical part of my diploma project is devoted to comparing the topic of axial symmetry in the selected textbooks that were chosen by the teachers in the questionnaire included in this thesis.
Transfer between mathematics and music in teaching mathematics
Kovačová, Petra ; Zamboj, Michal (advisor) ; Beran, Filip (referee)
Transfer between Mathematics and Music in Teaching Mathematics ABSTRACT The thesis targets the concept of learning transfer between mathematics and music and its usage in teaching mathematics in primary school. The aim of this thesis is to create interdisciplinary tasks for initiation of the learning transfer between mathematics and music, through an educational experiment identify whether the transfer occurs while solving them and determine its conditions. Another aim is to define the role of a teacher in this process. It focuses on the transfer between the area of grids, symmetry and melodies created by two tones. Moreover, it aims at fractions and creating tones by shortening a string. Educational areas Mathematics and its application and Music are described according to the Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education alongside with the possibilities of their connecting through interdisciplinary relations, cross-sectional and integrated learning. The concept of learning transfer and its kinds is elaborated in the final chapter of the theoretical part. Mathematical and musical terms used in tasks of the second part of the thesis are explained there too. Within the practical part there were tasks for initiating and testing transfer created. They were used in the educational experiment in the 9th...
Various concepts of teaching of axial symmetry in elementary schools
Bečanová, Veronika ; Jančařík, Antonín (advisor) ; Pilous, Derek (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to describe and compare two aproaches to the education of axial symmetry in elementary schools. On the basis of the study of specialized literature, the thesis describes different ways of the axial symmetry education and also compares the contributions on the side of pupils as well as the demands on teacher's class preparation. The main goal of the practical part of the thesis was to prepare, realize and evaluate axial symmetry education itself in two classes and to compare it with a different didactic aproach in other two classes of the sixth year. The thesis deals with axial symmerty education containing some of the elements of the constructivist style in classes where pupils have no experience with the method. The teaching itself consisted of the author's own activities and modifications of the worksheets that were subsequently used by pupils, followed by evaluation of their meningfulness. The lessons were evaluated on the basis of audio records, own notices, pupils' solution records and interviews with the assistant of the teacher, the outputs by means of pre- testing and post-testing. The results indicate that the lessons with the elements of constructivist teaching could be more effective for pupils rather than the transmissive teaching. The pupils considered the...
Mathematical knowledge and skills development in leisure time activities
Bartlová, Helena ; Novotná, Jarmila (advisor) ; Jančařík, Antonín (referee)
The thesis is aimed on the mathematical knowledge and skills development in leisure time activities. The theoretical part of the thesis is dedicated to leisure time, pedagogy of leisure time, out-of-school education - its content, functions and requirements for realization of out-of-school education. This part of the thesis is also dedicated to the motivation and its use in leisure time activities and development of mathematical knowledge in leisure activities. Based on this information and on my own experience, I worked out and introduced the prin- ciples for preparing leisure time activities developing mathematical knowledge and skills. Following is a compilation of leisure time activities that develop knowledge and skills in geometry, arithmetic, algebra, logical thinking, or geometric imagination. The compilation contains activities suitable for relaxing, recreational and hobby activities. The practical part includes a case study of the Textile Applications activity, which deals with consolidation and development of knowledge in axial symmetry within the leisure time sewing ring. The case study verified if participants in this activity developed knowledge in axial symmetry, if the activity respects the requirements for out-of-school education and if it improves belief in the applicability of...
Creation and use of teaching materials for lower secondary school mathematics in GeoGebra
KOŠAŘOVÁ, Monika
Although the GeoGebra programme is known at basic schools, its online form on the web site geogebra.org is almost completely unused. This bachelor thesis, named The Creation and Use of Teaching materials for Lower Secondary School Mathematics in GeoGebra, introduces possibilities the programme offers in the online world. It mainly focuses on the creation of materials, dynamic applets, individual working sheets and their following grouping into the so called GeoGebra books. Furthermore, the thesis deals with the sharing of materials through the so called Groups and samples of options, which they offer. My own book, The Creation and Use of Material in the GeoGebra Programme for Basic School, available on the geogebra.org site, is also a part of the thesis. The chosen topics aim at lower secondary school. The resulting work gives readers instructions to the creation of materials and use of GeoGebra's online service for tuition of mathematics.
Workbook proposal for teaching Mathematics at primary and secondary school, chosen chapters - percentage, axial symmetry
KRÁTKÁ, Lenka
My thesis is focused on using ICT (Information and Communication Technology) for teaching about percentage and axial symmetry. Specifically I am using an interactive whiteboard to support my teaching. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical and a practical part. The first part is looking into various teaching methods, use of ICT and the interactive whiteboard in teaching in general. The second part of my thesis contains a workbook I have prepared to support my teaching on the interactive whiteboard and the application of the workbook during lessons for the students on secondary school. I have concluded my thesis with evaluation of my teaching methods and reflective practice.
