Center for seniors in Brno-Medlánky
Minarčíková, Barbora ; Klimecký, Martin (referee) ; Gerö, Jiří (advisor)
The task of the diploma thesis is to design a senior living facility in Brno – Medlánky. This task was preceded by a pre-diploma project within the subject NGA056 – Specialized project, developed in the previous semester, which consisted of preparing an urban study with a proposal for urban structure including transportation solutions and the placement of various functions - residential areas, commercial areas, public buildings, civic amenities, a sports hall, a church, and further development of the senior living facility. The architectural study focuses on creating a suitable environment for long-term stay for seniors, meaning comfortable living, outdoor relaxation areas, adequate technical infrastructure, and a variety of services. The design stems from the concept of a compact, clear, and barrier-free base space with social areas and facilities connecting three pavilions of housing units. This ensures privacy in the housing units while providing ample space for social interaction. Access to the terrain linked with a park located on the southern side of the plot is easy from both the base floor and the housing units, providing direct contact with greenery in outdoor spaces. The main entrance leading to the base on the first floor is designed with a representative atrium, reflecting the grandeur of the entire complex. Technical and operational facilities are expanded to cover the capacity of a potential additional fourth pavilion. The entire complex reflects the requirement for peaceful and high-standard living in old age, respecting contemporary architecture and the needs of today's population. As a result, it becomes a place for contented aging.
Center for seniors in Brno-Medlánky
Drápela, Jan ; Klimecký, Martin (referee) ; Gerö, Jiří (advisor)
The architectural study of the senior center in Brno-Medlánky builds upon the territorial study carried out in the previous semester as part of the subject NGA056 - Specialized Studio (ArA). The result of the territorial study was a proposal for a compact development that combines all the needs of the area, from housing, through public amenities, a church, transportation connections with a tram loop, sports hall, park, to a senior center. Within the architectural study, a project was developed to create a comprehensive senior center that meets current standards. The center offers a wide range of services and facilities, quality common areas, as well as privacy in individual rooms and corresponding adjacent outdoor spaces. The design of the center is based on compactness and linearity. The center consists of two main volumes, with the larger one oriented parallel to the adjacent road. The second volume is perpendicular to it and they are connected by a communication block. In the front part facing the main road, a smaller entrance courtyard is created oriented to the west, while on the eastern side there is a larger space with a park. This area is bordered by the center's buildings on two sides, as well as adjacent residential buildings and greenery separating it from existing development, offering a peaceful space for seniors. Both volumes are located above an underground parking lot, which also extends under the entrance area. The individual buildings are then divided according to the services provided and the type of care. The ground floor offers a variety of services, a café, and the main entrance to the building, creating an active meeting place for clients and the public. The center aims to create dignified contemporary spaces for clients' stay and their integration into the surroundings, providing them with a pleasant atmosphere and a sense of belonging to their new home.
Center for seniors in Brno-Medlánky
Čermák, Martin ; Klimecký, Martin (referee) ; Gerö, Jiří (advisor)
The assignment of the diploma project was to design a center for seniors in Brno - Medlánky. The project of the center for seniors follows on from the pre-diploma project, the aim of which was to design an urban structure on an unused plot of land between the technology park and Medlánky. The territory is defined by area development on the south, west and east sides. Part of the territorial study was also a proposal to extend tram line No. 12 towards the area under consideration. The location of the center for seniors follows from the developed territorial study, which is attached to this diploma project. The main motive for the creation of the center for seniors was to arrange the objects in such a way that they create a "safe embrace" that will provide the residents with a sense of security. The main building is thus L-shaped with rooms facing the quiet courtyard towards the amphitheater. In the event of a social event, guests can watch the program from their balconies or windows. The remaining rooms face the street. The ground floor of the building is partially embedded in the terrain and thanks to this it naturally connects to the amphitheater. I try to create pleasant, well-lit spaces in the house, so that there is always a good atmosphere and the guests can accept this place as their new home. The capacity of the center for seniors results from the elaborated analyzes attached in this project. The home for the elderly was supposed to include all the necessary operations, such as a central dining room, library, gymnasium, space for doctors, management offices, staff changing rooms, a central laundry room and other necessary technological facilities.
Rohatec Special Regime Home
Raszyk, Kristián ; Klement, Miloš (referee) ; Boleslavská, Yvona (advisor)
The subject of my design is an architectural study of a new special regime home in Rohatec on Nové řádky Street. It is a healthcare facility offering institutional care, complemented by supportive services. The building will provide institutional care capacity for 90 clients. Staffing is designed for two shifts, each consisting of 50 employees. It is a standalone, three-story building with a basement. All buildings are covered with flat green roofs. Broadly, the facility is divided into a main building, which primarily contains patient wards and directly related services, and a secondary building, which houses facilities used by clients intermittently. The main building includes five patient wards. Additionally, the main building contains supportive services such as administrative offices, a pharmacy, common rooms, technical spaces, and underground parking. The secondary building includes common rooms, a dining area, kitchen operations, and spaces for physical exercise and rehabilitation.

The architectural study for the elderly home follows on the urban-architectural study conducted in the previous semester as a part of the NGA056 – Specialised Studio course. The study resulted in a compact urban development with mix of functions. It includes not only housing, commerce, public buildings, the church, the sport hall and transport facilities, but also a block of centre for elderly. The architectural study is focused on creating a complex centre with good supply of services, amenities, privacy and, most importantly, quality spaces. The design is based on the concept of compactness. All pavilions which are full of spatial and operational requirements form a block and inner courtyard. The inner courtyard is situated above the underground parking, and it is adjacent to a park, connected to it by a ‘neck’. The park opens to the southwest and its borders are defined by the centre on the east and apartment building for elderly on north side. On the side which faces the centre of the new district, the block turns on its ground floor, accommodating a café, entrances and other services. It facilitates connection with the community, together with park on the opposite side. The proposal presents a contemporary perspective on housing for the elderly in our society. The spaces try to have their own identity, with which residents or clients can identify and accept a room or apartment as their home, rather than just a final stop on their life’s journey.
Rohatec Special Regime Home
Velazquez Hernandezová, Natalie ; Klement, Miloš (referee) ; Boleslavská, Yvona (advisor)
The subject of this master's thesis is a study of the construction of a special regime home in Rohatec. The aim was to create a proposal for a healthcare facility for institutional care supplemented by support services. The care home is designed to accommodate 90 clients and two shifts of fifty staff members each. The site under consideration is located on the outskirts of the village of Rohatec within the residential area of family houses. The site consists of three parcels (38/3; 38/5; 37/3) owned by the region and one parcel (40/2) owned by the Czech Republic's Forests. Parcel 37/3 currently contains a family house, which will be demolished. Parcel 38/3 contains a regulatory gas station, which will be relocated off-site for the purpose of the new construction, while ensuring public access. The forest protection zone of 50 meters will be exceptionally reduced to 0 meters with the consent of the Forests of the Czech Republic to enable construction on the site. The proposed building is in compliance with the zoning plan. The proposed new construction is a standalone, basement building that respects and also concludes the street line of family houses. The building has three above-ground floors and one underground floor. The main entrance to the main building is oriented from the northwest at the level of the ground floor from Nové řádky Street. The main entrance to the garages is oriented from the southwest at the level of the basement floor from Cihelny Street. The main exit from the collective garages is on the northeast facade of the building at the level of the basement floor leading to Nové řádky Street. The maximum height of the main building is +15,500 meters (object access to the elevator). Parking is mostly provided in the underground garage of the building. Another 13 public parking spaces are located along the road on Nové řádky Street. Two of these spaces are reserved for disabled and rapid admission or for ambulance access. Along the northeast boundary of the plot adjacent to the forest, there is a cascading garden with four height levels connected by gentle ramps with a slope of 1:20 and stairs. The first level directly connects to the ground floor level and serves as a social outdoor center with a pétanque court, tables for playing games, dining, resting benches, and flower beds with herbs and perennials. The second level consists of recreational stairs with space for various outdoor performances and a section with exercise machines for seniors. The third level is spiritual. There is a small meditation area here. The last level is consistent with the original terrain. It serves as a quick connection to the forest park and operational ramp from the garages. In the garden, there are two stepped ponds around the leveling ramps, which will cool the climate of all levels of the garden. Elevated flower beds with fragrant perennials or herbs and benches with a view of the forest permeate the entire garden.
The point of view of the employees in the children's home to a quality of life and wellbeing of their clients
Ježková, Jitka ; Presslerová, Pavla (advisor) ; Vídršperková, Lenka (referee)
This thesis focuses on the point of view of the employees in the children's home on the quality of life and wellbeing of their clients. The literature review describes theoretical knowledge related to the topic. The research part has a qualitative form, where semi- structured interviews with the educators of children's homes were carried out. In the literature review, institutional care or the functioning of children's homes is described. Furthermore, the paper elaborates on the problem of negative influences endangering the child. Such influences represent inappropriate family environment, emotional attachment disorders, inappropriate and damaging behavior towards the child (abuse, neglect), psychological deprivation or adverse childhood experiences and traumas. These negative experiences significantly affect and influence children. Specifics of children's life in a children's home are described in more detail. Lastly, the paper defines terms "quality of life" and "wellbeing" and their possible concepts, especially in connection with life in a children's home. Qualitative research is implemented and described in the practical part of the work. As part of the research, semi-structured interviews are conducted with workers in the children's home. The interviews are subsequently transcribed, coded,...
Professional readiness of children in children´s homes from the point of view of social work
FLEKALOVÁ, Simona
This bachelor thesis focuses on the role of the social worker in the professional preparation of children in children's homes, but also on the subjects involved in this process. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to find out what procedures and activities are carried out by the social worker in preparing children for secondary education, what methods are used or what actors are involved. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part of the thesis I deal with the definition of institutional education in the Czech Republic, the legislative anchoring of this issue, the role of the social worker in the children's home, and finally the child's departure from institutional education. The practical part of the thesis is devoted to the research itself. In order to achieve the goal, qualitative research, questionnaire method, semi-structured interview technique was chosen. One research set was chosen, which consisted of 5 social workers from the Czech Republic. The collected data was evaluated using elements of the grounded theory method, with open coding and categorization in the first stage and axial coding in the second stage with finding relationships between the codes and categories. Graphical processing of the categories was done in Atlas.ti. The results of the research show that the social worker in professional readiness in children's homes is mainly responsible for administrative tasks and communication with children and parents of the children placed. Many actors are involved in the process of professional readiness mainly educators, the director of the institution or the primary school. Non-profit organisations that organise weekend or holiday stays for the children and, last but not least, the services of the employment office and school fairs are still widely used.
Siblings and their relationships in children's home
HOJKOVÁ, Ráchel
This bachelor thesis, titled "Siblings and their relationships in children's home," is primarily focused on emphasizing the importance of working with siblings. The main goal of the thesis is to explore how caregivers, who spend time with these children and influence them in certain ways, perceive this topic. It aims to determine whether caregivers actively work with the children or if they do not feel the need to support their relationship. Another objective was to ascertain whether caregivers perceive that siblings influence each other and how this influence manifests. We also investigated the prevalence of sibling relationships in children's homes. The main research question posed and answered in the thesis is: Do caregivers in children's homes work on fostering sibling relationships? The research was conducted through qualitative methods, employing semi-structured interviews with caregivers from children's homes with extensive experience. Transcripts of the interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis, supplemented by open coding due to the abundance of content in the text. Emphasizing the importance of working with sibling relationships is one of the contributions of this thesis. Insights from this thesis can be utilized to improve the work of caregivers and other staff in children's homes. Since caregivers in children's homes influence the children placed there, it is essential to pay attention to their approaches towards the children. Information from the bachelor thesis should be integrated into specific practices in institutional care, while ensuring the best interests of the children themselves are kept in mind.
Readiness of girls from an educational care institution for independent life
RANDLOVÁ, Alžběta
The aim of my bachelor's thesis is to analyze the place of the educational institute in relation to the adequacy of the preparation of girls for their independent life. My secondary goal is to evaluate the girls' assumptions and opinions about the adequacy of preparation for independent life by the institutional care. This is qualitative research, and as a procedure to achieve the goal, I chose semi-structured interviews with seven girls in an educational institution. I had a dictaphone to help me, which recorded conversations with the girls. The transcribed interviews are part of the appendices. The work helps to better understand the feelings of the girls in the institutional care, regarding the preparation for an independent life by the institutional care. It also contains the girls' assumptions and opinions about the adequacy or inadequacy of the preparation provided by the institutional care. I think the topic of this bachelor's thesis will be beneficial for the society, who may still consider institutional care as insufficient and inadequate for children and adolescents. But it can also be beneficial for a specific institutional care, for which the bachelor's thesis will be a certain reflection on the part of the girls, who had both words of praise and suggestions for improvement. In the conclusion of the bachelor's thesis after the evaluation of the interviews, it emerges that the girls know about the help from the institutional care, they also know the conditions under which they can be helped, and they know that they can always ask for help. Furthermore, in my bachelor's thesis, I have that girls are theoretically prepared to lead an independent life and their own household to the extent of their possibilities.
