Poet became an editor-in-chief:Transformation of "Host do domu" magazine under the supervision of Jan Skácel(1963-1969)

The subject of this diploma thesis are editorial, thematic and content changes in literary monthly "Host do domu" during time period 1963 - 1969 under Jan Skácel supervision. Title of the thesis is Poet became an editor-in-chief: Transformation of "Host do domu" magazine under the supervision of Jan Skácel (1963-1969). After Skácel was forced to leave the managing post because of the political reasons, the magazine was led by editor Jan Trefulka. Trefulka was trying to continue in the steps of his predecessor and led the magazine in similar style. Therefore I covered also this time period (1969-1970) after which the magazine was completely stopped by the officials. The thesis is based on qualitative analysis of texts that were issued in selected time period and on analysis of archive materials associated with this topic. The sixties in Czechoslovakia are a period when rigidly regulated one party (KSČ) regime started to loosen its grip. This process was supported by cultural magazines including "Host do domu". The literary magazine "Host do domu" belonged to a certain type of magazines that were trying to deliver articles, parts of fiction and poetry that was not in accordance with regime regulations. Thesis "Milan Kundera's 'The Joke' supervised. Critical reception of the novel in the context of its release and today" deals with critical reflection of the novel 'The Joke' in the period from the end of the 1960's up to current reviews. The author dedicates first chapters to the cultural and political background of the release. The core of the thesis focuses mostly on critical reception of the novel, which is divided into three historical periods. In the first part of the critical historical analysis and qualitative analysis, the author examines critical acceptance of the novel in the aftermath of its release (1967-1969), in the Czechoslovakian and exiled journals and literary magazines in particular. The second part considers critical reaction to the novel throughout 1970's and 80's, and stresses outcomes of the reception in the sixties, official normalized critical reviews and the acceptance in the exile and samizdat literature as well. Finally, the last part of the thesis offers contemporary critical response to 'The Joke', analyzed on the basis of Czech journals, literary magazines and newly emergent Kundera's monographs and on the basis of French critical reception of the Milan Kundera's collected work in the prestigious La Pléiade Gallimard edition. Small genre forms in the journal Host do domu (1960 - 1970)

Bachelor thesis "Small genre forms in the journal Host do domu (1960 - 1970)" focuses on qualitative analysis of small genre forms in the journal Host do domu during the period mentioned. It concentrates mainly on the evolution of satire and small reviews in the 1960s. The first part presents the contemporary historical and literary context as background for the description of the journal's history and of the variety of editorial staff. A brief formal and content characteristic of the journal follows. The second part is dedicated to a minute analysis of satire and small reviews in the Host do domu journal in the sixties. Attention is paid mostly to frecuency, form and subject matters of these small genre forms. The thesis also monitors possible connection between their content and the political and social situation. Satire is represented mainly by aphorisms, epigrams, satirical poems, caricatures and humoristic images in the Host do domu journal. Small reviews are short feuilletons on different topics written by Jan Skácel. The aim of this thesis is to capture the evolution of satire and small reviews during the 1960s and to briefly note the general changes in the appearance and course of Host do domu.

The bachelor labour conserns about the research of Host do domu, the journal published between years 1954 and 1970, and its subsequent continuation after 1999 till the present. The work deals with czech cultural context as well as with the historic circumstances, which the journal react to. The main aim is firstly to analyze the present copies, which has been published in the last years since today. Secondly, the work compares the ralation between both of the homonymic journal in order to find out how was the Host oscillating. The folowing research inquires into the interpretation of the journal's charakteristic attributes.
