Macromolecular systems for photodynamic therapy of tumors and inhibition of key proteins responsible for multidrug resistance

The research in the field of drug delivery systems has been extensively studied in the past decades. One of the fields where this principle is applied, is anticancer therapy. Many drug delivery systems (DDS) are based on macromolecular carriers, which are able to accumulate in the tumor tissue due to the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect. Those macromolecular carriers are mostly based on polymer nanoparticles, polymerosomes, dendrimers, polymer micelles or water-soluble polymer conjugates. An interesting polymer material applicable in DDS is poly[N-(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide] (PHPMA), which is highly hydrophilic, biocompatible and non-fouling to plasma proteins. PHPMA copolymers enable incorporation of functional groups for covalent drug attachment via stable or stimuli (e.g. pH or enzymatic activity) sensitive bonds. Modern approaches to anticancer therapy are e.g. photodynamic therapy (PDT), which uses photosensitisers, compounds able to generate cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon irradiation. Another trend is the usage of inhibitors of antiapoptotic proteins (IAP), which are able to increase the therapeutic effect in combination with classical cytostatics. This thesis includes analysis current market trends and technologies behind the product, deals with problems about ergonomics aspects, shape solutions and confusing user interface with respect to aesthetic and technical aspects.

Properties of aminoclay complexes and biologically active substances

This paper builds on previous research of aminoclay complexes in undergraduate studies. Theoretical part deals with study of current problems of aminoclay complexes with bioactive substances and the choice of substances for complexing with aminoclay. The experimental part consists of preparation of aminoclay complexes with selected bioactive agents at various concentrations. Verification of binding of bioactive agents to the aminoclay matrix was performed by Elemental Analysis (EA) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). For finding of the bound amount of bioactive substance were used the Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC®) and analysis of the cytotoxic properties of the formed complexes by used by the MTT assay. The main motivation of this study is to create new complexes with improved characteristics that would replace existing forms of substances used in pharmaceutical and biomedical applications.

The Theme of Homosexuality in the Works of W.S. Burroughs

The Bachelor's thesis deals with the analysis and literary interpretation of three works of William Seward Burroughs: the novels Junkie (1953), Naked Lunch (1959) and Queer (1985). The starting point of the thesis is a description of the Beat generation and the author's literary output regarding his own experience and attitudes. The practical part focuses on describing the main characters with respect to their experience of homosexuality. The thesis also deals with the motif of drugs, which functions as means of escaping from the reality. It also anticipates the tragic end. The motif of the journey is also considered, as another opportunity to escape in the search for the individual identity and the meaning of life. The conclusion summarizes the ambiguity of Burroughs' works, expressing his emotional personal confession and also a sharp social criticism.

The lifestyle of fitness-minded people - a case study

The bachelor's thesis is focused on a healthy lifestyle, specifically for people who have chosen the focus of fitness as their life belief. A healthy lifestyle has a positive effect on our physical and mental health, and it has recently become very popular, especially due to being frequently propagated on social networks. The theoretical part deals with basic concepts inextricably linked to lifestyle, but also with it's negative effects on our health, which can be various forms of addiction such as alcohol, drugs or doping with its dark side. The practical part focuses on qualitative research in the form of an interview with a man and a woman and compares their physical and psychological state. The main goal of this work is to find out what effect a fitness lifestyle has on the life of women and men of productive age, which I am trying to achieve with the interview I mentioned.

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of herbal tea, which is registered as medicinal product. The consumer market research has shown that these kinds of tea are put on the market by Megafyt Pharma s.r.o. and Leros s.r.o. An overview of all single-species medicinal tea and tea mixtures from both producers was created. In the practical part, the content of essential oil in the medicinal tea leaves of chamomile and sage from the producer Megafyt Pharma s.r.o. and the content of tannins in the tea leaves of Agrimonia eupatoria from the same producer were determined. The samples of individual drugs of different ranks were used for the determination and the evaluation was performed according to the Český lékopis 2017. The results were statistically evaluated. The obtained results showed that the essential oil content of chamomile corresponds to the pharmaceutical quality, but for the sage sample the essential oil content does not correspond to the given standard. In the case of Agrimonia eupatoria, the content of tannins was lower than determined by the Český lékopis 2017, only one sample of the given rank showed a higher content. Furthermore, the frequency of occurrence of individual species of herbs contained in the registered tea mixtures was evaluated.

Homelessness of people with addictions

In my bachelor thesis I solve the theme of homelessness, especially I focus on homelessness of people with addiction. In it theoretical part I define homelessness, factors which cause it, forms and causes of it, its history, ways of helping homeless people, for instance how various non-profit organizations or state help them. I also follow up definiction, causis and types of addiction in my bachelor thesis. In the practical part of my thesis which follows the theoretical one, I did a research. I describe aim, methods and results of my research using quantitative way of work. In the third part of my bachelor thesis I evaluate hypothesis which were verified by clients of Salvation Army in Brno in the form of qustionnaire. This hypothesis concern homeless people addiction.

Methods of Addiction Treatment in Substance - Dependent Users Serving a Sentence of Imprisonment

The bachelor's thesis deals with addiction treatment effects in the execution of imprisonment from the point of view of convicts. In the theoretical part I describe the drug problem, I focus on the concept of addiction, types of drugs and addiction treatment outside prison. In the second part of the theoretical part, I pursue the execution of imprisonment and treatment in the execution of imprisonment. The practical part contains findings, whether the treatment in prisons is applied and beneficial for convicts. It describes the case studies of the people I interviewed and analyzed of the interviews was conducted, which are summarized in the discussion.
