2004 and 2009 European Parliament Elections in the Czech Republic and their Impact on the Party System

This diploma thesis comparatively analyses elections to the European Parliament held in 2004 and 2009 in the Czech Republic. It focuses on the main features of these elections with the aim of finding their main similarities and differences. For this purpose the framework of the classic "second order elections" concept is used which was introduced by Karlheinz Reif and Hermann Schmitt. The introductory part summarizes the main aspects of the "second order elections" concept. What follows is the examination of development of the electoral system for the elections to the European parliament. Crucial features of the electoral system used in the Czech Republic are explored in detail. The main part of the thesis concentrates on the analysis of elections to the European Parliament held in the Czech Republic in 2004 and 2009. These elections are put into context of domestic political situation. Additionally, party lists and election manifestos are examined, as well as the most important facets of election campaigns of relevant political parties. Necessary attention is also paid to the analysis of election results and to their implications for the political and party system. Finally, in the closing chapter both elections are compared using the "second order elections" concept.
Promoting the interests in the European Parliament: case study of the Passenger Name Record directive

The aim of the thesis is to find out whose interests are promoted by the European Parliament Committee rapporteurs in a legislative process. The thesis tries to show on the case study of approving the Passenger Name Record (PNR) directive if the rapporteurs of the directive who influence the most the negotiations are influenced by their national party, the national government, the EP political group or by their own ideological interests. It was supposed that a very political topic as the directive PNR undoubtedly is, would be influenced the most by the national governments which alongside France tried to react on the terrorist attack in Paris in 2015 by adopting the directive and improving the security situation in the Europe. Through the interviews with the representatives of the EP political groups and content analysis of the relevant documents, the thesis concludes that in the concrete case of PNR directive, the interests of the governments are not the most significant but the ideological interests of the rapporteurs are. They are either in line with the interest of the EU citizens' better security situation or better protection of their personal data. The rapporteurs voted according to ability to push their interests to the directive proposal.
Legislative Process in EU: Statistics and Overview

This bachelor thesis focuses on the legislative process of the European Union in terms of carrying out every single step of the process. The first part deals with the legislative process and its steps which are further analyzed along with the individual approval procedures. The second scheme of the application together with various kinds of statistics is described in the second part. The Third part deals with the description of the formerly created application for the depiction of created outlines, charts and statistics.

V ostatních členských státech Evropské unie volby proběhly v období mezi 22. a 25. květnem 2014 Volební období poslanců Evropského parlamentu je pětileté, příští volby se tedy budou konat v roce 2019.

Proces mezinárodní migrace a uprchlická krize v Evropě

The diploma work deals with the process of international migration and the refugee crisis in Europe. The theoretical part is focused on the visa, asylum and safety policy of the European Union. The particular chapters are elaborated in the analytical part with the help of statistical data. Under the proper research, the collecting of the primary data was made with the attendance of refugees of a migration wave at the Vienna West Train Station. The data were subsequently analysed and evaluated in the presented work.

This bachelor thesis deals with the EU´s democratic deficit phenomenon. Text, based on literary literature search, introduces the very concept of the democratic deficit and arguments presenting the consenquences of its appearance within EU. The scope of this work is to analyze institutional and social sphere of the democratic deficit, and to find out if this deficit in the EU actually exists. The analysis of institutional sphere focuses on presentation of European institutions, their competencies and decision making. Social sphere of democratic deficit is based on the lack of participation of Europeans in the European elections and also their negative opinions about EU.

The subject of the diploma thesis is an analysis of election programs of four Czech political parties for EU parliamentary elections. The subject of the research is a comparison of targeting national and European issues in the election programs. The thesis assumes that the election programs target issues, which are characteristic for elections at the national level. The thesis applies one of the characteristics of the theory of second order elections to the EU parliamentary elections. Data gathering is based on content analysis.

The manifestations of Euroscepticism in the European Parliament: the example of Czech MEPs

This thesis deals with the cooperation among the Czech Eurosceptic MEPs in the European Parliament. First, I try to define the concept of Euroscepticism and its development in the Czech environment. The next chapter is dedicated to the Czech Eurosceptic parties and to the development of their attitudes towards the European Union. For this purpose I analyzed thein election programmes. The empirical chapter is focused on the cooperation and working strategies of the Czech Eurosceptic MEPs. In the conclusion I made comments on the work of the selected Czech MEPs in the European Parliament. This enabled me to find out whether the Czech Eurosceptic MEPs act in accordance with the values professed by their respective political parties.
Selected directives of the European Union from the period 2009 - 2010, their transposition and economic impact in the Czech Republic

The aim of thesis is to evaluate the effect of selected directives in individual sectors in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part defines the defining characteristics of European Union law, especially the directives and their transposition into the Czech rule of law, also describes the decisions and voting in EU and lobbying organization. The analytical part deals with the four selected directives: biofuels, renewable resources, electronic communications and energy performance of buildings. For each directive analysis was made of the transposition and influence in the sector with the result which confirmed in all directives the prevailing negative impact for the Czech Republic.
