This bachelor thesis deals with measurement of the competitiveness and innovation at the level of economies. In this thesis was chosen five important studies that deal with measurement of both values. Thesis is divided into three parts: first describes conception of competitiveness and innovation, second deals with methodology and indicators used to measurement and finaly third part includes analysis of possibility of Czech Republic to advance in competitiveness and innovation ladders. This analysis includes strenghts and weaknesses of Czech Republic and what should we improve to dramatically advance in competitiveness and innovation ladders.

The main discussed problem of this bachelor thesis is to find out how competitive Slovak republic is in worldwide economy. In other words, how competitive Slovakia is in comparison with another countries. The first part of this work concludes theoretical knowledge what the competitiveness consist of. The purpose of this part is to understand the competitiveness as a discussed problem of nowadays. The second part of this thesis describes the development of Slovak economy from the year of its independence to nowadays. The third analytical part includes analysis of the competitiveness of Slovak economy through indicators and markers determined by World economic forum in Geneva, specifically through Index of global competitiveness.

At the beginning, there is mentioned, why environmental protection has become an important priority. The main task of this bachelor thesis is to characterize a mutual interaction between environmental and economic objectives in the EU. There is described the EU environmental policy and its impact on the EU competitiveness. The EU strategy to strengthen its competitiveness is characterised as well.

The competitiveness of countries and regional integrations is nowadays an idea that may be hard to define. Many times we don't know what lies behind the idea of competitiveness. Bachelor thesis tries to characterize European competitiveness, identify the processes that lead to it's increase and tries to connect the idea of competitiveness with the macroeconomical layer. The thesis identifies parameters that influence competitiveness and compares them with other countries. In the end it evaluates in what expense was the enhancing of competitiveness successful and tries to introduce new trends for the European competitiveness.
The economy of the European Union and its importance in the global economy

This thesis examines contemporaneous state of economy of the European Union, factors influencing it and importance of these factors for the EUs position in the global economy.The first chapter is concerned with characteristics as the economic output, area and population of the EU, its macroeconomic situation and differentiation of member states. The second chapter analyses factors affecting external economic relations between EU and third countries. The third chapter evaluates previous findings and uses them to describe the position and status of the EU in the global economy.

The consequences of globalization connected to the world market liberalisation and increasing global competition have uncovered and deepened many weaknesses of the European Union and its position in the world economy. The thesis is aimed to describe the contemporary economic condition of the EU and to provide a notion aboat its further development. This depends mostly on efficient ways how the EU will face new challenges. I try to distinguish EU's most serious challenges and introduce the strategies responding to them. I will also offer an appraisal of these strategies and outline its limits.
