Communication as a tool for helping seniors in senior care providing institutions to an active life
KLIMKOVÁ, Lenka
Communication is one of the most important needs of man whatever his age. A good communication is the basis of relation between the nursing staff and clients. By means of good communication an agreeable atmosphere is created in senior homes, mental state of clients can be influenced and physical hardships are relieved. My paper aimed at describing principles of successful communication with seniors applied within complex care for clients in social and health institutions, including free time activities in the Senior Home Máj in České Budějovice and in Senior Home of Mistr Křišťan in Prachatice. The first one presuming that one of the general principles of effective communication with seniors applied in complex care for clients of health and social institutions is an interested, personal relation of the staff towards the client, accepting his/her personality, empathy and listening to him/her, creation of a friendly and optimistic atmosphere, recognition and encouragement of the client's efforts. This hypothesis was confirmed. The second hypothesis presumed an important role in encouragement of activity in seniors, the clients of health and social institutions, is played by communication methods applied in free time activities, entertaining therapeutical techniques and animation games aiming at encouragement, motivation and empowerment of clients. This hypothesis was confirmed as both institutions offer many free time activities encouraging communication, encouragement and motivation of clients. The staff realize that existing communication is not ideal as it is nurses who communicate most often with seniors when providing nursing and medical care and they would need more time. However, seniors realize and understand the lack of time on the part of the staff. Information for the practical part of the bachelor thesis was collected by means of a quantitative research in the form of a group structured interview, applying mainly the method of a directed interview and analysis of documents.
Perception of the seniors by generation in age from 15 to 50 years
ABRMANOVÁ, Adéla
I have compiled a diploma thesis "Perceptions of senior citizens by the generation aged 15 to 50 years." I am going to introduce this thesis in brief. I consider this topic as very up-to-date, which the whole of our society is concerned about. And this will become more important with the continuing population aging and the changing financial situation of the state. Currently, there has been discussion about views and attitudes of young people, who consider the seniors to be a burden on the country's economy and society. Young people think that seniors live at their expense. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part in individual chapters the current situation and basic terms concerning the issue are introduced. The state of seniorhood is explained, the status of seniors in society and family in the past and today is described. The issues of aging and changes in human behavior after retirement are dealt with. Everything what may influence society´s perception is described. Intergenerational conflict and solidarity between individual generations are dealt with. In the practical part, I conducted a research survey in the generation 15-50 years of age, the aim of which was to identify the views of young people on seniors. The results of the questionnaire survey were assessed, processed and put into the practical part. My own results were compared and discussed with other authors. I selected two objectives of the thesis. The main objective of my thesis was to study and clearly process the given issue. The other objective was to determine real relationships between younger generations and seniors, the views, opinions and attitudes of younger generations to seniors and to old age in general and to process the results in order to get a survey accessible and well arranged for the use of the general public. To obtain the data, I used the questionnaire method. The thesis could serve as professional literature, the issue of the relationship between young and older generations is compiled comprehensively. This thesis could bring benefits to society as a whole. It should be read by all members of society, who may find in this manner a lot of new information and interesting views, based on which they could change their opinions and views about the senior generation. The thesis would contribute to the promotion of intergenerational solidarity, which, in my opinion, is present in society, but gradually begins to fade away.
Value system of seniors
BERNÁTOVÁ, Soňa
The main focus of this thesis is the lifestyle and value system of seniors. It is based both upon the specialized literature and the related information. I was able to gather. The theoretical part of this thesis deals with the characteristics of the basic concepts {--} the old age and the process of ageing. It looks at different levels of personality which are affected by the process. Periodization of age, lifestyle and value system, risk factors endangering healthy lifestyle, stereotypes and myth about old ages are mentioned. The last part of theory gives an overview of the contemporary senior-care system in the Czech Republic. It divided into two parts {--} healthcare and social welfare. The research part goes deeper into the seniors{\crq} lifestyle aimed at their daily activities and boarding skills. It compares value system of seniors living in family environment in town and those, who live in village. Two hypotheses have been confirmed, one not.
Middle age generation attitude towards old age and aging
KOCMANOVÁ, Kateřina
The thesis deals with the attitude of present middle-age generation to senior age and aging. The work is focused on the attitude character, i.e. whether it is positive, neutral or negative. The thesis is divided onto two parts. The first part deals with views and approaches of people to senior age and aging in today?s society. The main aim of the first part of the work was to map the views and approaches to senior age and aging occurring in the society. The second part is a research one and includes data analysis, and quantitative research among respondents in the issues of the approach to senior age and aging. The main aim of the second part of the work was to find the current view of the present middle-age generation to senior age and aging. The quantitative research was performed by the method of questioning by means of the standardized questionnaire technique examining the view of senior age and aging. The research shows that the middle-age generation views the senior age and aging positively. It also shows that the differences in the views of senior age and aging between the monitored middle-generation groups are not remarkable. In the discussion the author compares the results of her work with the views of other authors dealing with the same issue. She points out the areas of problems that occurred during the research. This thesis is contributory because it describes the character of the attitude of present middle-age society to the senior age and aging. The results may be beneficial for student involved in caring for people of this age group in their practical training and other activities. The work points out the feelings and attitudes of mid-generation people towards this irreversible process and life stage.
Leisure Time Activities in the Master Křišťan of Prachatice Seniors´Home
BENEŠOVÁ, Ludmila
Baccalaureate work is focused on the offer of leisure time activities of senior citizens living in the Master Křišťan Seniors´ Home based in Prachatice. The theoretical section of my baccalaureate work is divided into three basic topics. The first section deals with old age and aging in general, the second is focused on senior citizens living in institutions and the third is concerned with the choice of leisure time activities available to the aged. The objective of my baccalaureate work it to map the range of leisure time activities offered to the inmates of the Master Křišťan Seniors´ Home based in Prachatice and to find out how the inmates of the said home for the aged are satisfied with their current choice of leisure time activities. In connection with the above mentioned objective a hypothesis has been set up, i. e. that the senior citizens living in the Master Křišťan of Prachatice Seniors´ Home are satisfied with the range of their current leisure time activities offered. Quantitative research, namely questionnaire and controlled interview with the inmates, has been applied to verify the hypothesis as above. An evaluation of the research results has proved the hypothesis. The research has shown that a majority of the respondents consider their leisure time activities offered by the Master Křišťan of Prachatice Seniors´ Home acceptable and satisfying and that the choice of leisure time activities is sufficient. Some inmates have stated that they miss gardening. Accordingly, I would recommend granting the senior inmates the chance to work in the garden in compliance with their individual health condition. Further, I would recommend training full-time members of the seniors´ home staff specialized in creating and implementing leisure time activities for the inmates.
