Domestic violence and its prevention
Koblížková, Hana ; Vanduchová, Marie (advisor) ; Jelínek, Jiří (referee)
Domestic violence is a vast and grave social problem which pervades the whole society. In my diploma thesis, I follow it up because of its complexity as well, since it comes not only under the field of law and criminology but also psychology and sociology. It was necessary to define domestic violence as a term in the first part of the thesis, and to describe its characteristics which are constancy of aggressor and victim roles, escalation, cyclicity, continuation and repeatability. I deal with impacts of domestic violence on the society as a whole, and present a brief perspective on coping with this issue abroad. Furthermore I look into myths floating around about domestic violence because they show the public's attitude to domestic violence, and in my opinion, that plays an important role for setting the prevention appropriately. The second chapter of the diploma thesis relates to criminological aspects of domestic violence. Successively it concentrates on incidence of domestic violence, its typology, perpetrators and victims, emphasizing exactly the victimological part including the specifics of particular victim groups. The next chapter of the thesis contains an overview of previous development of the legislation in the field of protection against domestic violence. In the fourth part of the diploma...

Sibling Rivalry and Characteristics of Marriage
Klepetko, Tomáš ; Bauer, Michal (advisor) ; Votápková, Jana (referee)
Parents are involved in their children's marriage decisions in a large part of developing world. Resources are scarce, so sibling structure may affect individual marriage and human capital outcomes. Previous literature focused mainly on timing of marriage and education. The objective of this thesis is to test several hypotheses, concerning sibling structure effects on wider range of such characteristics, as spousal quality, domestic violence, polygamy and wealth. In general, we explore the hypothesis that in countries with arranged marriage tradition, women, whose next-youngest sibling is female, are disadvantaged to women, whose next-youngest sibling is male. The hypothesis is empirically tested, using data from five countries in Sub- Saharan Africa. The results show consistent sibling structure effects on early marriage and childbearing across the countries. The effects on education, spousal quality, domestic violence and wealth are less robust. No effect on literacy and polygamy was found. Keywords Sibling Rivalry, Marriage, Childbirth, Education, Spousal Quality, Domestic Violence, Polygamy, Wealth 1
Domestic violence from the perspective of social workers
Holoušová, Markéta ; Nováková, Ivana (advisor) ; Poláčková, Jana (referee)
Domestic violence is a frequently mentioned concept that used to be ignored by the public for many years. More attention is paid to the issue nowadays; therefore, my thesis deals with this issue, the methodology used by domestic violence specialists and our legislation (which is finally beginning to address the problem of domestic violence and to amend the currently applicable laws). The objective of the thesis is to define domestic violence and its elements and to help the victims and show them where to find help. Finally, the thesis aims to point out incorrect and imperfect solutions to cases of domestic violence and in particular the failure to deal with the issue in a comprehensive manner at the government level.
