Petr Weigl as a director of ballet films and productions
Čižmáriková, Monika ; NĚMEČKOVÁ, Elvíra (advisor) ; WIESNER, Daniel (referee)
The thesis describes and summarizes dance work of the important Czech director Petr Weigl who was the first dramaturge and director of ballet in our country, and who earned great international success and appreciation for his films. He made many dance movies and collaborated on numerous productions in National theatre in Prague. Among the films were for example Pas de quatre, Víly (Fairies), Bolero and more. In my work I focus both on the films of Petr Weigl, which I describe and briefly analyse, and on his theatre productions, Vášeň (Passion), Radúz a Mahulena (Radúz and Mahulena) and more. I put a big emphasise on the ballet Romeo a Julie (Romeo and Juliet) from 1971. Weigl collaborated with the choreographer Miroslav Kůra on this ballet and it was an unusual success. In the end of my work I also deal with the problem of theatre direction, especially in dance performances, where I argue about lack of using directors in ballet. I see the core of my thesis in many testimonies of eyewitnesses who collaborated directly with Petr Weigl - Vlastimil Harapes, Michaela Vítková, Aneta Voleská and itself Petr Weigl himself, These personalities were a big source of facts and remarks, that are nearly forgotten in these days. I also use period reviews and critics of various Czech periodicals, for example Taneční listy, Právo, Lidová demokracie and much more in my thesis.

In the theoretical part the anathomy and kinesiology of joints and fibrous apparatus of lower limbs are described. Next, there are the problems of hypermobility mentioned. Hypermobility is present by all dancers of classical dance, in case they are devoted to it for a longer time. One of the goals of this thesis is to give insight into a ballet. Therefore I have mentioned a history of a ballet as well as the issue of lower limb motional device injury, that are the most frequent. There are also the methods of examination and therapy mentioned in the theoretical part. The method of a qualitative research was used for the research part of the thesis. The research file consists of three ballet dancers, by whom the overwork of motional device in lower limb part has shown. The case history was taken during the entrance examination, the static examination in pelvis area was provided by aspection as well as palpation. Than the proof of hypermobililty according to Janda was done, the walk was examined, also the dynamical examination of pelvis - Trendelenburg-Duchenn proof, the walk analysis, the goniometric and antropometric examination. During the therapy the techniques of soft tissues were used, than the stretching of shortened muscles, the sensomotorical stimulation, the method of neuromuscular facilitation, the dynamical neuromuscular stabilisation and the exercises on a big ball. The part of every case interpretation is both short and long term kinesiotherapeutical schedule, by which the next goal of the thesis was fulfiled. The therapy was effective for all the dancers. First of all there is the improvement in the area of hock joint. The results of research part of the thesis have shown, that the methods, that were used were chosen appropriately and the effect of therapy is evaluated possitively. This thesis can bring benefit to any physiotherapist working with people having problems with lower limbs as case of overworking and unequal overloading. It shows the possible ways of therapy.

The ballet was premiered on the 24th February 1794 at Kärntnerthor-Theater, Vienna. Copies of this ballet and prints are still widespread in many libraries in Europe. Based on the libretto and print of the complete ballet piano version the approximate reconstruction was made according to Koželuh music. The analysis revealed a significant source of musical drama ballet music. The historical background of the libretto was also explored. It revealed that the story is largely based on real characters, but a fictional storyline. The only currently known source (Ayrenoff 1794) tells us some information about the form of a stage version of the Vienna ballet. Less attention is paid to other Koželuh?s ballet, such as Telemach auf der Insel der Kalypso (1807), heroic ballet in three acts.
