Scenarios of future development of the Golan Heights
Fialová, Jana ; Havlová, Radka (advisor) ; Novotná, Yvona (referee)
The Golan Heights represent the area of approximately 1 800 km2, considerable part of which has been occupied by Israel since 1967. Although several rounds of negotiations between representatives of both countries were held, the peace agreement leading to the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territory was still not reached. For Israel and Syria the land is important for security and political reasons. Thanks to its altitude the region may serve to control large area from the Lebanese border in the north to the Sea of Galilee in the south. The extensive water sources located in the region belonged to the main points of contention during the past negotiations. The course of peace process is also influenced by the distribution of political power in Israel and Syria. In these bachelor thesis three alternatives of future scenarios are made on the basis of different combinations of input factors. In the first of them successful peace negotiations are finished by the peace agreement. In the second scenario negotiations are not followed by an agreement and in the last scenario representatives of Israel and Syria will not held any negotiations at all.
Reflections on the Global Order after the End of the Cold War: the Perspective of Francis Fukuyama and Samuel P. Huntington
Jurásek, Miroslav ; Veselý, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Lehmannová, Zuzana (referee) ; Vlček, Dalibor (referee) ; Gombár, Eduard (referee)
The times coming with the End of the Cold War were very turbulent. Politicians had to take into the consideration lots of scenarios and the next global trends to make correct decisions. Most of the very numerous visions of the future global order followed more or less the twofold pattern: order or anarchy. "The End of History and the Last Man" and "The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order" written by two prominent American political scientists Francis Fukuyama and Samuel P. Huntington and published at the beginning of the 90s are the most representative works that fit into this pattern. These provocative and controversial theories have been criticized and empirically challenged by many on one side, on the other side it hasn't impeded others to use them as a starting point for their next analyses. This dissertation thesis is a contribution to the debate between the dissenters and the supporters of these theories from a predictive point of view. Through the research theoretical methodology it is argued that the examined theories are still valid even nowadays because their theoretical essence (or hard core in the Lakatosian research program) has not been refuted yet. Nevertheless, the hard core of the theories determines their very specific character which puts forward the importance of the factors labelled in the Lakatosian framework as an external history of a science. These factors organized according to the Mehtas criteria of so called strong idea are, especially in the social sciences, decisive for how a theoretical construct is accepted in a broader non-academic context. It is demonstrated that both theories fulfill all criteria to be very influential in practice, although the idea of clash of civilizations is even more powerful in this respect. The specific features of all theories are illustrated on two case studies: Union of South American Nations and Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Firstly, the selection of these case studies is justified and secondly, the anomalies in terms of the Lakatosian methodology are identified and then explained. There have been found no unexplainable anomalies, which practically confirms the validity of both research programs on one side, on the other side it facilitates a better assessment of the studied theories in a sense of their interpretative scope and possibilities.
Evaluation of photovoltaic power plant project
Nádlerová, Simona ; Sieber, Patrik (advisor) ; Machek, Ondřej (referee)
The purpose of this diploma paper is to present economic models used to evaluate the investment and its implementation in calculating merits of investment in photovoltaic power plant. It consists of theoretical and practical part. Most importantly, the discounted cash flow method is used to evaluate the investment. To calculate the impact of potential adverse scenarios, cash flow streams of each of them were multiplied by their probabilities. Next stage of the paper provides sensitivity analysis for major risk factors. Finally, the breakeven point was determined and presented as a subsidiary case for investment decision.

Methodological framework for integrated assessment of ecosystem services in the Czech Republic
Vačkář, David ; Frélichová, Jana ; Lorencová, Eliška ; Pártl, Adam ; Harmáčková, Veronika Zuzana ; Loučková, Blanka
EU biodiversity strategy to 2020 requires Member States in 2014 to map and assess the state of ecosystems and their services in its national territory. At the same time, the economic value of these services should be assessed (Goal 2, Action 5, Improve knowledge of ecosystems and their services in the EU). In connection with this commitment we present methodology, which aims to provide a coherent conceptual framework and basic principles for the assessment and valuation of ecosystem services in the Czech Republic. The aim of the methodology is providing basic principles and procedures for assessing and monitoring the status of ecosystem services, especially with regard to the preparation and implementation of the national assessment of ecosystem services. The methodological framework for the assessment of ecosystem services in the Czech Republic supports the Ministry of the Environment as the basis for the development of strategies and policies in the field of biodiversity conservation, especially in relation to Section 79, para. 2 (a) of the Act no. 114/1992 Coll., On Nature and Landscape Conservation, as amended.
Simulation model of a retail store
BRYCHCÍN, Karel
In this work are summarized the theoretical basis of retail and simulation models usable as decision making support in the management of retail units. There are described the specifics of retail and specifics of retail units in terms of their classification and basic theoretical foundations for the creation of simulation models. The work also describes the default multi-agent simulation model created by the leader of this work,. Ing. Viktor Vojtko, Ph.D., on which this work builds. Then work describes creation of case studies using multi-agent simulation model, including the calibration process of models for these case studies. General methodology of creating case studies is described in next part of the work. Then the created methodology is varified by scenarios and the last part describes proposals for further editing of simulation model.
Importance of bank stress tests in response to financial crisis
Honcová, Eliška ; Blahová, Naděžda (advisor) ; Brada, Jaroslav (referee)
This thesis deals primarily with issues of stress testing the banking sector in response to the current financial crisis. The first chapter briefly describes the basic causes of the financial crisis and its impact on the banking sector and the subsequent expansion into the European Union. A brief description of selected accepted European regulatory and supervisory reforms is followed. Their content is related to the stress tests. The second chapter describes in detail both the original and current stress testing methodology and shows the development in testing, which passed just after the outbreak of financial crisis. The additional tests of banks and the subsequent verification of test results are an integral part of the chapter. A key part of this work is to analyze the stress tests in Europe and then in CR for the year 2011. Test scenarios and specific test results are described here. In conclusion, the work tries to evaluate the adjustment of the Czech stress tests and their explanatory value compared to the European tests.

Asset price bubbles of American markets - causes of their formation, impacts on the economy of the USA and world
Klimo, Ján ; Neumann, Pavel (advisor) ; Jelínek, Tomáš (referee)
The goal of this bachelor thesis is to identify the causes of the formation of asset price bubbles based on the observation of historic cases of price bubbles observed on the American markets, to show their impact on the economy and to project potential scenarios of the current financial crisis. The first chapter introduces basic psychological concepts of the formation of asset price bubbles and explains their macroeconomic implications. The second chapter focuses on specific American asset price bubbles. It applies the theoretical concepts from the first chapter, for each asset price bubble concrete causes and impacts on the economy are described. This section is concluded with a list of their common characteristics. The final chapter analyzes the current financial crisis. It explains its background, causes of the housing bubble and factors leading to its bust. The comparison of stock market crashes and housing market crashes serves as a basis for the projection of possible scenarios of the current financial crisis based on an empirical study of past banking crises. The author thereby presents potential development in five important economic areas: stock markets, housing market, real GDP per capita, unemployment and public debt.
