The subject of the thesis is the history of public transport in Prague until 1939; the conditions of its establishment and the oldest means of public transport are also discussed. These are accompanied by a comparison of statistical information and research on important traffic routes. The first part deals with the period from the oldest means of transport until the arrival of the first genuine public means of transport, the omnibus. Related technical and sociological developments are also covered. A part concerning horse-tram, the last animal-powered vehicle, follows. The third part addresses the history of first electrical trams run by private entrepreneurs. The fourth part covers the history of Electrical Company from its founding to achieving to have a monopoly, ending with the dissolution of Austria-Hungary. The subject of the last part is the development of public transport in Prague in the Czechoslovak Republic.
