Creativity in the process of presenting architectural heritage
Petrášová, Silvia
Experts have been wondering to what extent the work of architects in monument restoration requires creativity and whether this task must be appointed to architects. There is also a conflict between monument preservation and new production, when historical environment is not seen for its potential but perceived as a problem. This is caused by the lack of cultural identity and clash of consumer society and spiritual values. Quality presentation of architectural heritage is a precondition for positive change. Key positions in this process are a methodologist – the author of the proposal for restoration or a regional monuments board officer, and an architect – the author of the project. They are translating scientific outcomes of an architectural monument research into its future presentation. Key terms in efforts to achieve a positive shift in the process of presenting architectural heritage are specialization, interdisciplinary cooperation and coordination. Specialization should be required from both architects and methodologists. However, no institutions or laws demand that. Interdisciplinary cooperation is teamwork. While it has potentials and risks, it is an essential element of this complex issue, assuring creative process with positive results. Coordination should be done by an architect, given all the professions involved – his or her education provides for technical, functional and artistic elements of architectural work. However, for optimal presentation it is not decisive whether it is an architect or any other educated person. Despite complex conditions, there are some presentations of architectural heritage where the process allowed for ideal implementation. The question is whether we will continue to hope for such cases, or instead we will contribute to maximizing them...
Efektivní stavby a jejich celky
Štěpánek, Martin
In response to the needs of contemporary society (and the needs of the near future) we can find new typological elements in the landscape of our cities that change our perception of the cities by its scale and spacial effects. It is not a new phenomenon. Thearrangement and structure of settlements and landscape reflect the lifestyle of the society occupying the particular place at the actual time. Each compositional elements of the settlements and landscape that makes their structures are so variable depending on the needs of society in the place and time in which they are viewed. The specialisation of production and services, their concentration for maximum efficiency, has brought demands for new buildings and building complexes. These buildings and their complexes have new spatial requirements, due to their efficiency, which change the structure of the city while they are only of marginal interest to scientific research, but their scope go beyond not only cities and districts as well as countries and continents.
Dissemination of civil engineering expertise into individual specialization
Nič, Milan

Insect herbivores drive the loss of unique chemical defense in willows
VOLF, Martin
The thesis examines the effects of chemical and mechanical defensive traits on insects in a local community of 11 Salicaceae species growing in sympatry. The results repeated loss of willow specialized chemical defense. This could be due to its low protective value and high energy costs. Our study thus shows that the balance between costs and benefits of defensive traits is not necessarily in favor of specialized defenses and illustrates a process, which may lead to the reduction in a defensive trait.
Is there marriage premium for men in the Czech Republic?
Trnková, Adéla ; Stroukal, Dominik (advisor) ; Brožová, Dagmar (referee)
This paper examines if there is marriage premium for men in the Czech Republic by using cross-sectional data from WageIndicator survey for 2009 and 2010. This paper inquires whether it is possible to explain this premium by any of the existing theories. Marriage premium is estimated in the amount of 12 -- 15 %. The results do not seem to be in line with the productivity theory or the specialization theory. The theory of human capital accumulation has been proved. On the contrary, the discriminatory theory seems to be plausible explanation of this phenomenon.
