Water Quality Monitoring in the Selected Water Supply System
Janišová, Marie ; Biela, Renata (referee) ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to assess the quality of the water in the water supply system and the influence of the distribution system on the quality of the transported water. The first part of thesis defines the theoretical basis on which it is based on practical part. The next part contains information about the area, the distribution systém and water analyzes. This is followed by its own series of water analyzes and the analysis of the resulting values of water quality indicators. The last part of the thesis evaluates the influence of the network on the water properties and has been designed measures to eliminate the adverse effects of the water supply.
Removal of lead and other metals from water
Šopíková, Lucie ; Vybíralová, Pavla (referee) ; Biela, Renata (advisor)
This work covers the topic of metals and semimetals in water. It is divided into three parts. First, each element is characterized by its properties and behavior in water. Incidence in the environment, utilization and effects of intake on human body are described for each element. Second, means of elimination from water are introduced. Different chemical, mechanical and biological methods are discussed. In greater detail, precipitate method, cementation, electrochemical processes, sorption and biosorption are reviewed. Third, hands-on filtration experiment of polluted water with the help of different filtration materials is included. This experiment was done in a laboratory belonging to the Institute of Municipal Water Management, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology.
Removal of selected metals from the water
Pěkný, Mojmír ; Vybíralová, Pavla (referee) ; Biela, Renata (advisor)
In my thesis I focused on the problem of removal of some heavy metals from water. Heavy metals cause deterioration of quality of water sources and bring about a need of complicated water treatment technologies. In particular it is the case of mercury, arsenic, cadmium, lead, chromium and nickel. This diploma thesis focuses on the utilization of adsorption using suitable adsorption materials to reduce concentrations of nickel in drinking water. At the same time it investigates the effectiveness of these materials in the process of removing iron and manganese from water. The first part of my thesis presents an overview of these metals. I write about their occurrence, its forms, properties and significance. The second part of the work focuses on the laboratory observations of the effectiveness in removing iron, manganese and nickel from water. The description of the used sorptive materials is also included.
Monitoring of the contents of phosphorus and nitrogen in wastewater
Herka, Milan ; Repková, Martina (referee) ; Vávrová, Milada (advisor)
This master´s thesis is focused on the occurrence of phosphorus and nitrogen in effluents and methods of their determination. In the theoretical part of the thesis describes methods for the determination of nitrogen and phosphorus in waste waters, their selection and optimization methods including mobile analytics. Experimental section is devoted to the abstraction of wastewater from selected wastewater treatment plants and their analysis methods including mobile analytics and comparing them with the presentation of their results. The conclusion is drawn evaluate the content of nitrogen and phosphorus in wastewater influent and effluent from wastewater treatment plants and compared the variation of these values during the one-month study and compared with published data.
Assessment of the suitability of thermal water for the relaxational- therapeutic application
Lysý, Jakub ; Doležalová Weissmannová, Helena (referee) ; Vávrová, Milada (advisor)
My thesis is based on an assessment of the suitability of thermal spring in the Southern Moravia for a relaxing, therapeutic purposes. By capillary electrophoresis are measured concentration of natural substancies, which are used in thermal waters and are searched for therapeutic effects.
Assesment of basic characteristics of waste water from the Dermacol Company
Fribertová, Marcela ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (referee) ; Vávrová, Milada (advisor)
This master thesis is focused on waste waters from cosmetics industry and basic indicators of these waters. The pollution of the environment caused by increase industrial development has a negative effect on ecosystem. Waste waters are part of the pollution. In theoretical part a basic indicators of waters (its definition and way of determination) have been described. Membrane processes for water purification have been mentioned as well – particularly the ultrafiltration. The experimental part of thesis deals with practical determination of indicators mentioned in methods described in the theoretical part. Results are discussed at the close. The discussion is focused on evaluation of efficiency of the device for waste waters adjustment, which is in use in the Dermacol company, which produces cosmetics products.
The comparison of analytical method ČSN with the methods US EPA by the analysis of aqueous samples
Bělicová, Marie ; Mega, Jaroslav (referee) ; Němcová, Vladimíra (advisor)
The theses compares analytical methods according to current norms used in the Czech Republic to the methods based on the principle according to US EPA. A new device the automatic photometer Aquakem 250 makes use of the US EPA methods. Prior to its laboratory use in the Institute of Public Health in the town of Ostrava the photometer had to be validated. For the comparsion of the analytical methods ion chromatographic, isotachophoresis, spectrophotometric, titrimetric methods were used. The validation process, which was documented (in validation protocols), was time consuming and technically challenging. It was confirmed that the new Aquakem 250 analyzer provides result that are verified by methods which are in accordance with norms applicable in the Czech Republic. After a successful completion of validation and obtained accreditation the new automatic analyzer was put into regular operation in the chemically laboratory.
Fluorimetric Determination of Scandium
Holubová, Zuzana ; Komendová, Renata (referee) ; Sommer, Lumír (advisor)
The submitted thesis deals within the sensitive fluorimetric determination of scandium with a new reagent 8-Hydroxyquinoline-5-sulphonic acid. All important factors such as time, pH, reagent concentration, buffers, surfactants and selected interferents have been studied with respect to the selectivity, sensitivity, precision and detection limit on the determination by using classic fluorescence spectra and their first derivation. This reagent was also used for the determination of scandium in real waters. The new reagent was shortly compared to morin and lumogallion when used for scandium.
The application of mobile analytics for determination of basic parameters of waste water
Herka, Milan ; Leskovjanová, Jana (referee) ; Vávrová, Milada (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is focused on waste waters from two waste water treatment plants and utilization by mobile analytic measurement devices with photometric detection for determination of selected basic indicators of this waste water treatment plants. The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis is described selected basic indicators of waste water and their determination using mobile analytical methods. The experimental section is devoted to sampling of waste water from two wastewater treatment plants and analyzing them using a mobile analyst with spectrophotometric ending with presentation of their results. The conclusion is drawn from a comparison of the two wastewater treatment plants, compared the effectiveness of wastewater treatment and discussed the results and perform their interpretation.
Assessment of the Possibilities of Increase the Flood Protection
Bartošová, Ludmila ; Smelík, Lukáš (referee) ; Uhmannová, Hana (advisor)
This thesis deals with the assessment capacity of channel and objects to the flow Ludvíkovický stream in the village Ludvíkovice. The processing was carried out of the focusing channel modeling in a computer program HEC-RAS. The next section was prepared by theoretical design measures to increase the capacity of the channel in critical points of the territory.
