Future of the Supervisory Arrangement in the Financial Market of the European Union
Machová, Soňa ; Karpová, Eva (advisor) ; Šaroch, Stanislav (referee) ; Veselá, Jitka (referee) ; Štěpánek, Pavel (referee)
This work deals with the supervision structure of the EU financial market. The current supervisory framework is the result of recent reforms adopted in response to the global financial crisis. However it seems that it is not able to satisfy all the requirements stemming not only from highly integrated EU financial market environment, but also from the functioning of the single currency and common monetary policy. Therefore the European Commission presented a proposal for the creation of a banking union - single banking supervisor for eurozone countries. It is a solution that could solve many problems of the current system, however it may carry certain risks involved especially in the setting of different conditions between EU countries and between different sectors of the financial market. In the long run, therefore, the European Supervisory System along the lines of the European System of Central Banks would present the most appropriate model for the EU financial market, which should, compare to the banking union, be applied to all sectors and all Member States. Its implementation should, however, be preceded by a consolidation of the economic situation and the harmonization of certain related issues, the functioning of which can significantly affect the whole system.

Česká národní banka
The first article presents a model that incorporates credit frictions and serves to describe the dynamics of credit spreads in moderate as well as crisis times. The model is then used to evaluate the effects of quantitative easing and credit easing. The second article proposes a model that shows how the conditions of a parent bank might affect the interest rate setting of its subsidiary or branch in a foreign country, and is followed by an empirical assessment of the ten largest banks in the Czech Republic under foreign control. The remaining papers are of an empirical nature. The third article investigates the household credit market in the Czech Republic, proposing a new indicator of default risk and examining its determinants. The fourth article evaluates the extent to which financial variables help predict key Czech macroeconomic indicators. The last article presents evidence on the degree and evolution of financial integration of the Czech Republic and four other EU countries outside the euro area.

Openness, financial markets, and policies: cross-country and dynamic patterns
Bertola, Giuseppe ; Lo Prete, Anna
Writers document significant and robust empirical relationships in cross-country panel data between government size or social expenditure on the one hand, and trade and financial development indicators on the other. Across countries, deeper economic integration is associated with more intense government redistribution, but more developed financial markets weaken that relationship.
