Lapped scarf joints for reconstruction of historical structures
Kunecký, Jiří ; Fajman, P. ; Hasníková, Hana ; Kuklík, P. ; Kloiber, Michal ; Sebera, V. ; Tippner, J.
This paper presents a description of the repair of timber structures using a prosthesis scarf\njoint designed for the replacement of damaged parts of beams. This new scarf joint makes use\nof the strutting effect of inclined contact faces where the forces are transmitted through\nwooden coupling elements - wooden dowels or keys. The scarf can be modified in four\nvariants according to the relevant stress and is suitable for historically valuable timber\nstructures. It meets both functional and aesthetic requirements. The designer - structural\nengineer will learn in the methods the load bearing capacity or stiffness of the beam with the\ndesigned joint, its recommended dimensions and detailed geometry. The contractor will\nappreciate the description of the execution and maintenance of the joint.

The timber roof structure of the hotel in Velké Karlovice
Smečková, Veronika ; Pilgr, Milan (referee) ; Šmak, Milan (advisor)
The aim of my thesis is to assess the roofing design of the mountain hotel, situated on the Great Karlovic, at an altitude of 512 metres above sea level. The height of the structure is 12.0m whilst the base is 12x24m. The first floor is constructed using brick, whilst the second floor and the attic is designed as a timber structure. The roof truss structure has a traditional framework of that time period.
The timber log cabin structure of the boarding house in Karlov
Špačková, Eva ; Straka, Bohumil (referee) ; Šmak, Milan (advisor)
The bachelor´s thesis deals with the design and the assessment of the wooden roof structure above the guest house in Karlov pod Pradědem, Jeseniky, at an altitude of 725 metres above sea level. The object has plan of the cross-shaped object about the approximate dimensions 13x20 m. On the first floor is brick. The second floor is made of wooden circular profiles – log cabin. The attic is habitable rooms, and I had to consider in the design of roofing. The roof structure is designed as a pair of intersecting each other pitched roofs. The emphasis is on the use of circular sections, to the roof of the extension on the bottom of the building, which is also from the circular profiles.
PPension - technological phase coarse upper construction
Řihák, Pavel ; Henek, Vladan (referee) ; Henková, Svatava (advisor)
The thesis is focused on construction srubového pension. It deals with issues of selected technological part of the project, which are: technical report biotic pests of wood, wood protection, technological process timber harvester, log walls, ceilings, roof, site facilities, the construction schedule, naazení machines, inspection and test plan, safety and health protection at work.
Timber load bearing structure of a hotel building
Janči, Michal ; Šmak, Milan (referee) ; Straka, Bohumil (advisor)
The bachelor’s thesis deals with the design and assessment of the timber load bearing structure of a hotel building in Kouty nad Desnou, Jeseníky, at an altitude of 606 metres above sea level. The object has a rectangular shape with dimensions approximately 36x16m. The lower part of the structure is designed as a two-floor heavy frame and an attic. The columns are designed as swinging angles, and stiffening is solved by a set of bracings and struts. The roofing of the object is solved by purlin truss system with a triple vertical stool. The emphasis is placed on the use of commercially available timber beams. The sheathing of the structure will be solved by Fermacell gypsum boards.
The use of carpentry joints for the repair of historical structures
Kloiber, Michal ; Kunecký, Jiří ; Hasníková, Hana ; Sebera, V. ; Tippner, J. ; Fajman, P. ; Růžička, P. ; Stejskal, D.
The conservation process describes the way of using prosthesis lap scarf carpentry joints for reconstruction of historical timber structures. This new scarf joint makes use of the strutting effect of inclined contact faces where the forces are transmitted through wooden coupling elements - wooden dowels or keys. The process consists of several chapters describing the diagnostics of original wood and the repaired structure, the design of the joint and execution of the joint. It also includes examples of succesful reconstruction made with according to this conservation process.

Konstrukční chování historických tesařských spojů
Drdácký, Miloš ; Jirovský, Ivo ; Mlázovský, V. ; Růžička, P. ; Wald, F. ; Kirizsán, I. ; Szabó, B.
Poster presents knowledge acquired at experimental carpentry in combination with scientific research into behaviour of traditional carpentry joints. Results of tests on replicas as well as authentic joints are used for calibration of computational models and further for structural analysis of historic development of roof timber frames.
