Development Tendencies of Information Science Education in world and in Czech Republic

This PhD thesis focuses on the development of Library and Information Science Education. The pivotal aim of the thesis is the identification of trends in education of information science worldwide and their comparison with trends in the Czech Republics. The thesis pays attention to the description of salient tendencies in general education as well as in the education of information science with particular consideration to USA and Europe. The concept of information ecology underlying the thesis presents a theoretical point of departure. The concept is used as an appropriate tool to structure benchmarking analysis of study programs. The concluding part deals with two analyses of Library and information science schools. Phenomenological Deep Interviews with Czech educators investigate perception of developmental tendencies emerging in curricula. Sense of Community in school settings surveys impact of social climate to student experience with received curricula.
