Representation of National Minorities in the Parliaments of the Post-Yugoslav States

There is also the theory of bicameralism presented as a part of the theoretical part in the thesis. Based on the analysis the thesis presents extensive conclusions. In the view of history there are historical and ideological circumstances and also political demands of participants in the case of proposing the institution of Senate. The main conclusion on the view of voter turnout is that since 2008 there has been a continual decrease, particularly in run-off. Havlín, Brian ; Bednářová, Hana (advisor) ; Perlín, Radim (referee)
Elected representatives in municipal elections (case study of Kolín district) Abstract This thesis deals with the theme of municipal elections, specifically analysing the final positions of candidates and the elected mayors emerged from the vote in the municipal elections in 2014 according to the size of the groups of municipalities, using the district of Kolín as an example. Author focuses particularly on the candidature to the municipal councils and related electoral participation. The characteristics of elected representatives were also examined. Two hypotheses were proposed - H1: the competitiveness of elections increases with the increasing size of the municipality and H2: voter turnout is related to interest in the candidacy (number of candidates for the mandate). The thesis uses data available from the Czech Statistical Office and BISNODE company. The results show that the mayors were usually found on top of the candidate list and came from the winning party. Compared with the national average, larger amount of mayors upheld their position. Furthermore, it was found that voter turnout is not related so much to the number of candidates for a number of mandates, rather it is related to the number of candidates for a council to the number of inhabitants. The hypothesis that the competitiveness of...

The electoral bias in the electoral system to the Chamber of deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic
Blaha, Aleš ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
This diploma thesis opens a new deep insight into the issue of electoral systems in Czech and Central European political science. The mid-point of this research is the electoral bias in the electoral system to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The electoral bias is researched on all general elections from 1996 until 2013. To find out the electoral bias I apply mathematical method created and used by professor Galina Borisyuk from University of Plymouth. This method is based on several mathematical methods used by the American and the British political scientists for decades. However, the new method created by Galina Borisyuk is the most convenient for many reasons. Mainly this method isn't necessarily connected with plurality majority system, which was essential variable so far. Second key attribute of this method is the possibility to apply it on the three party systems, which is important variable for our political system in the Czech Republic as well. In analytical part of this research I apply the new mathematical method in all elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. Ascertained results are analysed in the conclusion together that I have set the feasible ways to develop a new path the research of bias in the future.
Comparison of the Interventions by the Czech and German Constitutional Courts to Electoral Systems
Šmůla, Petr ; Koubek, Jiří (advisor) ; Buben, Radek (referee)
Comparison of the Interventions by the Czech and German Constitutional Courts to Electoral Systems The aim of this bachelor thesis is the comparison of the effects of the interventions by Czech and German Constitutional Courts to the electoral systems and electoral legislation in respective countries. The comparison is relevant also due to the fact that the Czech Constitutional Court decisions often tend to make references to its German counterpart. Moreover, both courts are based on the same model of concentrated and specialized constitutional justice. The thesis will briefly characterize both electoral systems as applied for the elections to the lower houses of parliaments. The actual comparison will be based primarily on the essential decisions on electoral law in both countries: the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic's decision Pl.ÚS 42/2000, and the Constitutional Court of the Federal republic of Germany's decisions 2 BvC 1/07, 2 BvC 7/07. The aim of the thesis is also to compare the limits of electoral reforms as they have been set by the constitutional decisions of both courts. Key words: Constitutional court, elections, electoral system
