Relationships between functional traits, home range sizes, and dispersal abilities in birds
Holubová, Kateřina ; Storch, David (advisor) ; Sedláček, Ondřej (referee)
Avian movements through the landscape involving dispersal and routine movements within home-range or territory are one of the basic but due to a high mobility of birds also one of the least understood processes of bird ecology, especially on the interspecific level. Not only is dispersal a fundamental mechanism of species' spreading into new areas, but also, together with home-range size, it shows the scale on which species perceive the landscape and how they can deal with habitat changes. Dispersal ability, represented by dispersal distances, is determined by a few species specific traits like body size, migratory status, wing and bill morphology, diet type, preferred habitat type or some life-history traits. On the contrary, home-range size variability is determined primarily by energetic demands of the species, given by its body size and trophic level, and by the productivity of the environment. There is a positive relationship between home-range size or territory size, respectively, and dispersal distances of birds that can be attributed to species vagility or their spatial requirements determined especially by their food preference. Nevertheless, further research mainly on interspecific level is necessary for a deeper insight into this issue.
Differences in the resolution of sea territories conflicts in areas with energy resources
Bančanský, Andrej ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Parízek, Michal (referee)
Energy security is an important phenomenon of the contemporary world. A significant number of oil and gas reserves are located on the seabed. Expansion of oil and gas drilling to deeper and from shore more remote locations can again raise the question of ownership of these deposits. On one hand, there are regions of the world where these disputes over borders of maritime territories escalate into a series of clashes and incidents. On the other hand, there are other areas where states can settle their disputes and cooperate on drilling. The goal of this study is to determine which factors lead to the fact that particularly in the South China Sea disagreement about the boundaries of maritime territories results in the escalation of disputes in comparison with the regions of the North Sea and the Caribbean Sea, where disputes are solved or minimized. These factors are represented by six variables, which are based on three theories: a realist, idealist and constructivist theory of international relations. The first part of this study describes the historical development of current international maritime law with regard to the territorial division of the world's oceans. It is followed by a description of three case areas. The second part deals with the theoretical foundations of the examined factors. In...

Control of territory as a factor for the effective implementation of a political objective of an Islamist violent non-state actor
Ludvík, Zdeněk ; Hynek, Nikola (advisor) ; Bureš, Oldřich (referee) ; Eichler, Jan (referee)
This thesis wants to make clear the theoretical concept in the form of a testable hypothesis on the relationship between the political control of the territory by a Violent Non-State Actor (VNSA) and the effectiveness of realization of its political objective (policies). Since in the literature there is no explicit theory or theorization that would reflect the varying degree of effectiveness with regard to the varying degree of territorial penetration, and there are no explicit parametric indicators and values that may be necessary for effective achievement of the political objective in relation to the territory, the purpose of the research will be to answer the question whether, how and to what extent the intensity of the physical penetration of the territory is related to the ability to more easily and efficiently achieve the goals for which the VNSA has been established and has strived. A general definition of threshold values of the penetration can also provide partial piece of knowledge for practical policies and approaches to territorial VNSA on the part of states (counterinsurgency actors). Although there is no explicit use of any of the theories of international relations in the research, the used theoretical framework is inspired by a) approaches to political geography and outlines of...
The Reterritorialization of Austrian-Slovenian-Croatian borderlands as a causal impact of the European integration process
Král, Radek ; Žíla, Ondřej (advisor) ; Šmidrkal, Václav (referee)
The submitted thesis "Reteritorialization of the Austrian-Slovenian-Croatian border as a causal impact of the European integration process" analytically approaches the issue of the reterritorialization process within the state-centric, still valid Westphalian system. The topic of reterritorialization is important especially in the context of considering the spatial or territorial impacts of ongoing European integration. This integration can take the form of establishing so called Euroregions or cross-border cooperation. The territorial framework was chosen on the basis that Slovenia is one of the most typical border and contact social areas in Europe. This assumption was subsequently linked to the time perspective, when the above-mentioned three states joined the European Union at almost the same interval. Appropriate choice of territory and time framework in the work is the basis for the analysis of the impacts of the phenomenon of reterritorialization. The analytical part of the work is organized as a discursive analysis of texts whose authors are researchers from the university environment. As members of academia often have a direct impact on the local implementation of cohesion policy, the analysis is complemented with the interpretation of the results of thematic structured interviews. These...

Exploring structural changes of employment in rural Czechia: territorial approach
Čapkovičová, Andrea ; Jančák, Vít (advisor) ; Květoň, Viktor (referee) ; Konečný, Ondřej (referee)
The thesis searches for driving forces behind structural changes of rural employment in the example of Czechia subject to changing rural paradigm and the related question of rural economic viability represented by the employment performance. The research elaborates on the territorial approaches which categorises regions according to their degree of rurality. In addition, the detailed classification is made according to the change of non-agricultural employment in the period 2001-2011 in order to identify dynamic regions which showed performance above national average (leading) and those which lacked behind (lagging). The observations prompt the question why is the performance differentiated. Therefore, the regionally differentiated impact of processes such as deagriculturisation, deindustrialisation and tertiarisation in the period 2001-2011 is analysed by the use of analysis of components (namely shift-share analysis) and multivariate analysis (namely factor and cluster analysis). The thesis aims to provide answers in particular by giving a thorough analysis of how the changing rural paradigm (and regional theories in wider context) conceptualise the driving forces behind employment development in rural areas. The added value is in the analysis of interrelations and correlations of chosen...
End house
Jurkovičová, Lucie ; Vlček, Ing Karel (referee) ; Vlček, Milan (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the design of an end dwelling house with a café in Žatec (district of Louny). It is a partly basement, detached object on a slightly sloping terrain. The apartment building has one underground floor and three above-ground floors. It consists of six housing units of varying size and layout. On the ground floor there is a cafeteria, while on the second and third floor there are always 3 flats. The end house has an atypical ground plan and is roofed with honeycomb roof. The project is processed using the ArchiCAD computer program.
