Premeny plochy: Štúdia bionických modelov architekta Antona Vranku
Novák, Jakub
Structural modelling techniques of architect and professor Anton Vranka influenced in a specific way several generations of students at the Faculty of Architecture STU in Bratislava. The phenomenon of so-called Vrankovina - problem, puzzles, or a proposal that thrives on geometry, uses the effect of optical illusions, or transforms any flat medium into a surprising spatial structure is still known among the students and graduates a few years after Vranka has retired. His unique approach creates links between Bauhaus theory of architecture, architectural bionic and biomimetic, fascinating directions in architectural theory from the 1960s through to 1980s. The aim of this paper is to capture knowledge stored in Vranka’s fragile paper models, and report on his motives and methods and theoretical works. They are thus added to a growing circle of works on folded architecture. The proposed systemization documents an astounding variety of forms, created when just a few creative processes. Categorization of the models will be used as a basic platform for transferring theoretical works in architectural building practice.
Construction of elementary pupils' geometric schemas via motivating learning environments
Kloboučková, Jaroslava ; Jirotková, Darina (advisor) ; Coufalová, Jana (referee) ; Novák, Bohumil (referee)
Title: Construction of elementary pupils' geometric schemas via motivating learning environments Author: Jaroslava Kloboučková Department: Department of mathematics and mathematics education Supervisor: doc. RNDr. Darina Jirotková, Ph.D. Abstract: The aim of the dissertation is to discuss teaching geometry as integral part of mathematics education at the primary school level. The thesis also documents a longitudinal teaching study which was initiated in 2010 and which gives us a base for discussion of some fundamental questions regarding the process of learning geometry for pupils in their early school years. The main objective here is to attempt to answer the following four didactic questions: In which way do pupils learn about geometrical objects? How do they share their geometrical knowledge, experience and discoveries with one another? How much (at what level) are they able to understand mathematical concepts that the official curricular documents (the Czech Framework for Education Program) place in later years of schooling? What phenomena are they able to grasp and describe using their mother tongue? The theoretical framework focuses on the learning process and the typology of mathematical problems in geometry. Four specific engaging environments (Cube Buildings, Origami, Wooden Sticks, and Tiles) and...
Geometric constructions in paper folding
JANČICH, Jakub
The diploma thesis Geometric constructions by paper folding is focused on the use of paper folding in teaching mathematics. The main part is formed by worksheets, where the paper folding replaces drawing geometric tasks. For verification and practice of geometrical knowledge additional questions to each construction are added. To simplify and unify approach for developing worksheets constructions of basic axioms which enable to construct all the tasks are described.
Origami diagram creator
Pecka, Martin ; Petříček, Martin (advisor) ; Podzimek, Andrej (referee)
The main target of the Origamist application is to aid with creating origami diagram manuals. Recently, the most common methods for creating those manuals are drawing the steps in an image editor, or taking photographs of the folded steps and composing them together (again in an image editor). What Origamist brings is a new alternative to these methods. The manual's author gets the possibility to transfer the sequence of paper folds the manual consists of to the Origamist application, which is able to export several types of output - the most favourite (among origami folders) PDF manuals, but also image manuals (as PNG or SVG), and even as an animation of the folding process. There is also the added value to translate the descriptions of the steps to several languages.
Paper folding in teaching mathematics
SCHINKOVÁ, Nikol
The bachelor thesis Paper folding in teaching mathematics deals with the usage of origami to solve mathematic problems. In the introduction the history of origami and basic contructions of composing, so called Huzita-Hatori axioms, are mentioned. In next part, the problem tasks which are unsolvable with Euclidean construction, the tangent to two parabolas, angle trisection and duplicating of the cube are solved and proven. In conclusion, procedures of contructions with proofs which can be used in teaching the mathematic, are given.
Constructions using paper folding
VORÁČEK, Marek
The aim of the bachelor thesis Constructions using paper folding is to look at basic folding principles and to show geometric constructions that can be done by folding. Part of the thesis is dedicated to problems such as angle trisection, which can not be solved with straightedge and compass, their solutions using paper folding is described.
The Spectre Everywhere and Nowhere

Robert Longo got into his hands Edmumd Engelman's photo book and according to these photos he created a series of large-scale charcoal drawings entitled: The Freud Drawings. I got into my hands 10 years old newspapers with article including photos foreshadowing time, atmosphere and personality of Freud and Robert Longo's work. I will create installation using my own means of expression that invites you in the Sigmund Freud's room as I imagine it.
Mathematics, scissors and paper.
ŠMÍDOVÁ, Šárka
The thesis deals with teaching Mathematics through folding paper using the origami, sliceforms and paperfolding methods. Selected geometric figures and their characteristics are listed in the thesis. These geometrical figures are approximated to pictures created in a mathematical software GeoGebra. Selected figures are enriched with instructions and methods of creating the given figure out of paper. The thesis includes educational tasks. The teacher and the pupils follow the task step by step. The pupils revise the schoolwork and build up a system of basic geometrical terms while folding paper. The pupils apply gained skills and acquired terms in handouts.
Use of paper folding techniques in teaching mathematics
MRÁZ, Luděk
The target of the Bachelor's thesis "Use of paper folding techniques in teaching mathematics" is to highlight the importance of origami in mathematics and its subsequent use as a suitable tool in lessons of mathematics in primary or in secondary schools. Most of the work is devoted to practical problems. It means constructions of planar and spatial figures and solving interesting or problematic tasks which are accompanied by graphics solutions and proofs.
