DPRK's Propaganda: its Function, Methods and Development

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is amongst the totalitarian countries, where the word is regarded as an ideological weapon. Since its early days, North Korean propaganda was essential in establishing and legitimizing the cult of personality of the DPRK founder Kim Il-sung, spreading the Juche ideology, and later the cult of personality of Kim Jong-Il. The first chapter of this thesis examines the characteristics of the Juche Idea, Kim Il-Sung's cult of personality and describes the main themes and methods used by the state propaganda machine. The Second chapter deals with the impact of propaganda on North Korean literature. The aim of the third chapter is to analyze mass media as the most important tool of the North Korean propaganda. In this thesis I mainly focused on the personality of Kim Il-Sung in the period from the 1950's to the 1980's. There are examples amended to each chapter, which illustrate the main propaganda stages. Attention is paid also to the organizational structure of the WPK and other organizations.

Thesis Propaganda in soviet and nazi biographical film of thirthies of 20th century: Specifics of film medium as an instrument of propaganda researches group of three soviet and three german Motion pictures. It focuses on nuances of using ideological meanings, creation of myths and sees examples of both cinematographies through Umberto Eco's Open work theory. It uses the methods of discurse and comparative analysis and compares few important aspects of main characters of analysed pictures. On this basis it creates generally valid conclusions.
Personality Cult in Turkmenistan 1991-2006

This case study discusses the role of Turkmen president Saparmurat Turkmenbashi's personality cult as a part of Turkmen totalitarian ideology. The work's scope is restricted by a time period beginning with the country's declaration of independence in 1991 and ending by president's death in 2006. The work analyses the manner the personality cult served the president to keep his power. It builds upon a thesis that personality cult is a defining feature of Turkmen totalitarianism. Using empirical analysis, the author attempts to analyze the effects of the personality cult on the society and daily life in Turkmenistan and tries to clarify the mechanisms of political power and the position of the personality cult within the regime. The cult marks many aspects of daily life in Turkmenistan - politics, society, architecture, culture, media and even the schooling system and history interpretation.
Myth Julius Fučík. Disputes about his life and work in historical context.

This master thesis is a result of historical analyses of past interpretation of Julius Fučík. Attention is focused on how the cult of Julius Fučík was built, how was his image changing and how this contributed to maintain communist ideology. For better understanding of the whole issue, this thesis describes Fučík's work, especially his most famous artwork Notes from the Gallows, which is important for understanding manipulations with Julius Fučík's legacy. It also examines how changing political situation transformed his role from hero to traitor and collaborator. As a counterbalance, complex expert studies dealing with Fučík's case are introduced. The end of the thesis is focused on the 70th anniversary of Fučík's death in the year 2013 in a perspective of contemporary media. This documents today's social debate which no longer deals with the question of guilt but is rather targeted on Fučík's literary output.
Emil František Burian. Self-presentation, representation and memory

This diploma thesis reveals the processes of shaping the image of Emil František Burian, the theater director, composer, journalist and playwright in three key headings. The first heading explains the principles of self-presentation and choice of characteristic means to build its external image in the changing personal attitudes and social development in the 30th - 50 years of 20th century. The second heading shows the coordinates of cultural policy communist regime and monitors the construction of public image representative of official socialist culture. Both headings are mainly based on a detailed analysis of Burian's theater activity, broadcasting activities and articles in professional and social printing. The third heading of qualification work pays attention to creating individual memory of a systematic effort to build a "cult of personality" of E. F. Burian. Interpretation biography and memories of actors, directors, journalists and politicians attempts to profile the professional and private life of this artist.
The cult of Benito Mussolini in Contemporary Italian Society

The main aim of this thesis is to evaluate the cult of Mussolini's personality from the beginning till nowadays. The first three chapters present an overview of the life of Benito Mussolini. The objective is to capture the most important milestones in his life, to bring closer his personality, which was one of the factors that involved the formation of the cult of the Duce, and outline the developement of Mussolini's ideology. The fourth chapter deals with the main causes of the formation of the cult and the tactics of it's consolidation. Afterwards the attention is paid to the cult of Mussolini in contemporary Italy. This chapter is replenished with a number of particular examples, there are also summed up the reasons of the revival of this cult. The sixth and at the same time the last chapter analyze the developement of the Italian extreme right with an emphasis on contemporary neo-fascist tendencies.

The economic development of Turkmenistan during the reign of Turkmenbashi

The study analyzes the developement of the economy of Turkmenistan during a period of its independence. It focuses on a description of the most important reforms and changes which have been brought by Turkmen transformation and crisis of the regional trade after the fall of USSR. This economical developement is explained together with the political and cultural framework of Nijazov's cult of personality. The main accent is put on agriculture and energy sector - the two most important sectors for GDP and employment. Perspectives of the new reform course formed by Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov are suggested at the end of the paper.
