Efetivita zahraniční pomoci: Případová studie Haiti
Hudáková, Miriama ; Havlová, Radka (advisor) ; Knotková, Vladimíra (referee)
My master's thesis deals with a form of soft power and foreign policy, the development aid. In the three chapters I provide an analysis of the potential impacts of such financial flows in the particular case of Haiti. This country has become an exemplar of the fact that even billions of dollars do not have to contribute to improving the economic and living conditions, on the contrary, aid in combination with incorrectly set policies can become an instrument of destruction. Using econometric models and policy analysis I examine the impact of official development assistance on the political, economic, environmental and social sector. At the end of the work I list recommendations for the future, which could contribute to improving the situation.
Modeling Haiti
Auda, O. ; Bečičková, H. ; Cincibuch, M. ; Čižmár, P. ; Hřebíček, H. ; Janjgava, Batlome ; Kameník, O. ; Katreniaková, D. ; Kejak, Michal ; Lamazoshvili, Beka ; Lukáč, J. ; Machala, J. ; Menkyna, Robert ; Musil, K. ; Rasulova, Khanifakhon ; Remo, A. ; Vávra, D. ; Vlček, J. ; Zemčík, Petr
The report has four chapters. Chapter 2 summarizes the main features of the Haitian economy relevant for building the forecasting and policy analysis system (FPAS). Chapter 3 presents the structural macroeconomic model and its properties captured by the decompositions of variances of the model’s variables in terms of the model shocks and by its impulse-response functions. This chapter also describes Bayesian vector autoregressions used for the near-term forecasting. Chapter 4 evaluates how the models perform empirically. The forecasting power is assessed both in the sample and by using an out-of-the-sample comparison with the standard random-walk benchmark. We conclude that the FPAS performs satisfactorily in this comparison.
Failure of humanitarian assistance - a case study of Haiti
Hudáková, Miriama ; Zemanová, Štěpánka (advisor) ; Knotková, Vladimíra (referee)
This thesis is dealing with one of the little explored spheres of international relations - humanitarian aid. The paper specifically devotes its failure in three main areas, namely the media, accountability and management of resources and aid dependency syndrome. Its aim is to analyze the possibility of eliminating these errors in the case of Haiti given that these failures were repeated throughout history of humanitarianism. In the present study I also include steps that in the future may contribute to more effective and transparent humanitarian assistance.

Obchodní a kulturní specifika Haiti a Dominikánské republiky
Klimeš, Jan ; Müllerová, Františka (advisor) ; Korandová, Jiřina (referee)
The bachelor thesis of the University of Economics in Prague deals with problems of Haiti and the Dominican Republic from the perspective of business and cultural specificity. The theme was chosen because of significant differences between the two countries, both in culture and in the economy. Another reason was that the author was visiting the island of Hispaniola during one month. This visit left mixed feelings for the author. Significant differences in the maturity of both countries and especially poverty in Haiti are discussed throughout the work and then outlines some possible methods for increasing standard of living and a better future for the population. The thesis deals first with historical development, then divided into two parts, i.e. the first one is devoted to Haiti and the second one to the Dominican Republic. It is approached from different point of view, perspectives, such as the economic situation, relations with the Czech Republic, the cultural specificity and current events. Further progress of the two independent states on the island of Hispaniola would have been very successful not only for the territory itself but also for the success of our entire civilization.
