COMMUNITY GARDENING AS A WAY OF USING PUBLIC SPACE IN THE CITY

This thesis deals with the community gardens in the city and their benefits for individuals, community and area where they are located. The aim of this thesis is to identify the number and location of community gardens in Prague, to clarify reasons for their formation and to determine their contribution to the area. Next target is to find the answer to the question whether they are seen by its founders as a form of public space. The thesis consists of two main parts, theoretical part, which summarizes the substantial information about public space and different possibilities of cultivation in the city with a focus on community gardens and community gardening. The second practical part is based on interviews with the founders of each community garden and presents the answers to the set of questions. This thesis aims at the development and the realization of a fully automated community garden control system. Theoretical section analysis the overall community garden problematic followed-up with possibilities of community garden automated control. Practical section consists of the construction of a tool that implements the community garden automation, it´s service software and a web interface.
Seniors in the City Centres - Community Gardens in Metropolitan City Centres

Seniors are placed in homes for the elderly, often l ocated outside the city center, without any relationship to the social life in the city. The new home should offer to a residents mainly possibility to create a community conected with a area and "normal" life around. Present time is hectic and people in cities are working under pressure.They are looking for opportunities for relaxation and active recreation. For this reason, community gardens began to form. It is a place in the urban greenery and abandoned or unused parts of a city centres, which manage group of people in the neighborhood.
A Study of Conditions for the Development of Community Activities in Prague Suburbs Pankrác 1 and 2

Community gardens can significantly enrich and improve the quality of communities life in large urban neighborhoods. The aim of this work is to find out how such community activity (mainly focused on a specific project, urban garden and composting plant at Arkady Pankrac business centre) would be accepted by residents of Prague settlements (especially Pankrác 1 and 2). The partial objective of this research was also the discovery of deficiencies in the area of community coexistence and submit a proposal for an appropriate solution.
Urban green spaces and its institutional framework

The thesis Urban green spaces and its institutional framework attempts to analyze different cases of urban green spaces foundation and administration in which various public and private entities act. Based on these foundations it tries to come with an overview of the most important forms of provision of greenery in cities. Through research of available literature we came to the understanding that greenery in urban environments is not just a result of municipal service provided by a public authority but to its foundation, administration, financing and maintenance contribute also other entities. The overview created in the thesis is not exhaustive but can serve as an inspiration for various subjects at a time when local public authorities do not have sufficient resources to ensure satisfactory range and quality of public green.
