Biology and ecological dynamics of Baltic Fucus belts
Kivader, Martin ; Neustupa, Jiří (advisor) ; Němcová, Yvonne (referee)
The belt-forming algae of the genus Fucus are key species of the otherwise species-poor Baltic Sea. The distribution of the Fucus species is limited by the reduced salinity of brackish water to which the Baltic populations have adapted. The genus Fucus is known for high phenotypic plasticity and the absence of reproductive barriers, complicating the study of its recent radiation. The recent speciacion of the Baltic endemic F. radicans from locally adapted F. vesiculosus populations probably happened twice independenly 2 500-400 years ago. Baltic Sea is the largest brackish ecosystem characterised by a pronounced salinity gradient ranging from 1.2 to 30.2 ‰. It is influenced by the discharge of over 200 rivers and water exchange with the ocean is limited by the shallow Danish Straits. Since 1970s, Fucus decline and local extinction due to eutrophication of the Baltic Sea have been reported. Baltic water has high residence time which leads to accumulation of nutrients. In 1974, Helsinki Commission was established and the Helsinki Convention on the protection of the Baltic Sea Area was signed in response to its worsening state. Fucus belts, however, continue to decline and their ability for recovery is limited. Increased sedimentation due to eutrophication has in many locations resulted in the loss of...
Monitoring of physico-chemical parameters on selected fisponds of the Vrbenské system
NEUŽIL, Tomáš
The aim of the bachelor's thesis was to measure selected physical and chemical indicators and then compare them with measurements that were carried out in previous years at individual ponds of the Vrbenské system near the statutory city of České Budějovice. Measurements took place at monthly intervals in the morning from April to September 2023. The measured physical parameters were water temperature and transparency. The measured chemical parameters were pH, O2 saturation in the water column and electrical conductivity.
Eutrophication of water reservoirs
Kukol, Jan ; Bartoníčková, Eva (referee) ; Biela, Renata (advisor)
The first part of this thesis is focused on general explanation of eutrophication, its causes and consequences. The possible solutions of eutrophication are discussed briefly and a few examples of eutrophic reservoirs in the Czech Republic are added. The second part of this thesis is focused on ongoing modifications of water reservoir Brno and finally the effectiveness of measures are being compared.
Determination of phosphorus sources and determine of corrective measures of Hornoveské eutrophic reservoir
Čech, Dalibor ; Palčík,, Jiří (referee) ; Biela, Renata (advisor)
The aim of the present master's thesis is to assess the problem of eutrophication in the reservoir named Hornoveská reservoir near the city of Fryšták. The main goal of this thesis is to do a search report on the topic of eutrophication of surface waters, to do practical measurement and make samples in the Hornoveská reservoir, and then evaluate results from these actions and determine the source of phosphorus in the reservoir. Last goal is to suggest actions which can improve the condition of reservoir by limitation the occurrence of algae and cyanobacteria in the summer period.
Phosphorus in sediments of small rivers
Zborovská, Jarmila ; Hrich, Karel (referee) ; Malá, Jitka (advisor)
This thesis deals with assessment of two small water courses Leskava and Troubsky brook. Streams are evaluated from two aspects: content of three forms of phosphorus TP, Panorg and Porg and hydromorphological assessment. Total phosphorus was determined by sample mineralization by H2SO4+H2O2. Pinorg and Porg were determined by a method published by Pardo. Hydromorphological assessment was done by methodology Králová at al.
Classification of material used for the construction of garden ponds
Sýkora, Jiří ; Repková, Martina (referee) ; Komendová, Renata (advisor)
This thesis deals with the study of the occurrence forms of inorganic phosphorus in water garden ponds and used material impact on the amount of releasable amount of phosphorus in the form of phosphates in the water medium. The practical part of this work focuses on the analysis and subsequent classification of building materials for the production of garden ponds just by releasing ability of phosphorus in the form of phosphates in the water.
Determination of phosphates in waters and characterization of their negtive effects on water ecosystem
Novotný, Radek ; Komendová, Renata (referee) ; Sommer, Lumír (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is focused on the negative effects of phosphates in natural waters and their methods of determination. The first part is characterized by a negative impact on natural water and there are characterized the problems associated with eutrophication, development of cyanobacteria and algae and the resulting potential health risks. The second section describes the methods by which phosphates can be determined. The work highlights the particular spectrophotometric methods such as molybdophosphoric acid, vanadomolybdophosphoric acid, wolframophosphoric acid, phosphomolybdenum blue and methods with some basic dyes such as rhodamine B, rhodamine 6G, malachite green and crystal violet. There are also mentioned methods, which are used less frequently, but they are relatively sensitive, such as AAS, AES, LC-ICP-MS and next such as chromatographic, electrochemical and enzymatic methods. Finally, work mentions the possibility of using automatic techniques such as FIA or CFA, which are suitable for routine and frequent determination, often using the spectrophotometric methods, but not only these.
Water utilization in ZOO Brno
Hejsková Pekárková, Marie ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (referee) ; Kotlík, Josef (advisor)
Master's thesis deals with water utilization in exposition of arctic wolf and canadian beaver in ZOO Brno. Theoretical part describes water utilization in ZOO and processes in water connected with nutrient enriching and uprising of water bloom. Practical part focuses on monitoring water quality in April and May 2012 and concept to solute water filtration in ponds.
Spectrophotometric determination of phosphate in ternary systems with dyes
Novotný, Radek ; Komendová, Renata (referee) ; Sommer, Lumír (advisor)
The theoretical part of this master’s thesis is focused on the characteristics and forms of phosphorus, occurrence in natural waters and the problems associated with higher phosphorus concentrations, especially in the development of cyanobacteria and algae. There are also described the possibilities of determining the degree of pollution of natural waters by nutrients and the effects of eutrophication. There are also described methods for the determination of phosphates, especially spectrophotometric determination in ternary systems with dyes. Like other methods are mentioned AAS, ion chromatography, electrophoresis and izotachophoresis, electrochemical methods or enzymatic methods. In the experimental part of this work deals with the selection and optimalization of suitable ternary system with organic dyes for spectrophotometric determination of orthophosphates. The system with phosphovanadomolybdic acid is studied too. For analytical procedure with malachite green oxalate, which was found to be most useful, were studied interfering ions, commonly occurring in natural waters . The chosen procedure was finally tested on real water samples.
Process of destratification at Brno dam reservoir
Marek, Tomáš ; Maršálková, Eliška (referee) ; Palčík,, Jiří (advisor)
This thesis deals with the process of destratification at the Brno dam reservoir within the activities of a larger project "Clean Svratka", aimed to improvement of water quality in the catchment area upstream the Brno dam. At the Brno dam the project "Implementation of measures at the Brno Reservoir" has been in progress for the third year. Its aim is the proposal and implementation of measures to suppress the cyanobacteria mass development in the dam lake. One of the key measures is aeration and mixing of dam water through a 20 aeration tower. The theoretical part of this thesis focuses on seasonal conditions in the dam lake, the technology suitable for destratification and aeration and possibilities of their use. In the practical part of the thesis the seasonal destratification and the impact of meteorological conditions are monitored.
