Changes in the social arrangement of the lowland gorillas in Prague ZOO after incorporation of a new fertile female
Vítková, Eliška ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Vančatová, Marina (referee)
In my several months of research I have been engaged in studying the distribution of affiliated and agonistic behaviour in a group and primarily towards a new female, over the course of ranking the new female into the group and changes in the social arrangement of the western lowland gorillas in Prague Zoo. For the research standardised observational methods were used, ad libitum sampling, focal animal sampling and scan sampling and statistical analysis on data was carried out with the aid of ethological software (Noldus- MatMan 1.0). Hypotheses stated that the agonistic contact towards Bikire would be initiated by females and above all from the female Shinda, also affiliated contact for Bikire would be initiated by the young and under aged, that the frequency of agonistic contact towards Bikire will gradually decline, that the other adults in the group are dominant to Bikire, that will result in lower affiliated contact and that the social structure will change in the group. From the results of the research it is confirmed, that agonistic contact towards the new female was initiated exclusively by females and in particular the female Shinda. Further it was confirmed, the initiators of the affiliated contact towards Bikire are the young and under aged female member Moja. It was revealed the other...

Observation of play behavior of young gorilas in Prague ZOO
Svátková, Barbora ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Vančatová, Marina (referee)
Observation of Observation the behavior of the game in the group of young gorillas at Prague Zoo Gorillas, as the largest among primates particularly vulnerable group of animals. In the wild, there is a continual loss of habitat due to timber extraction and rainforests. These animals live much social way of life. For the development of social communication between individuals in the offspring has a pivotal role in gaming behavior among both young themselves, and between young and adult individuals. Observations of gorillas, in order to describe the behavior of juveniles playing in the group of gorillas at the zoo in Prague during the two months were carried out. The observations took place, depending on the weather especially in the inner enclosure. The work has mapped the incidence of gaming behavior in juveniles and the Prague zoo. It was found that the frequency of gaming behavior depends on the age and sex, baby, and that game is usually initiated by an older teenage male. Initial assumptions that the babies are most active in the gaming behavior that immature males are a provocation to play more proactive than juvenile females and young males that the game tends to play more active than young females have been confirmed by observation. Furthermore, it appears that adults are not engaging...
Locomotion and behaviour in group of pig-tail macaques (macaca nemestrina) at Prague Zoo
Vlčková, Marcela ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Vančatová, Marina (referee)
This essay describes and analyzes of locomotion, sexual, afiliativní and agonistic behavior in a group of pigs macaque (macaca macaques) at Prague Zoo. Data collection took place in the period from December 2015 to May 2016. In the winter months (December to March) at the times from 9.00 to 16.00 hrs., And in April and May 2016 in time from 9.00 to 18.00 pm. The total observation period reached 240 hours. Data were analyzed using Statistics 12th and MS Excel 2007. Objectives of the work are three: (1) Based on the research literature to describe the behavioral ecology of macaque monkeys. (2) The detailed description and analysis of locomotion, sexual, afiliativní and agonistic behavior in a group of macaque pigs in the Prague Zoo. (3) Describe grooming, depending on time of day and social position in the group of pigs macaque in the Prague Zoo. We tested five hypotheses, which can be divided into four categories. We first investigated the hierarchy of the group. Furthermore, we investigated the behavior depending on the sex of the individual, and consequently the position in the hierarchy. In the last part we dealt with in detail during grooming. Tests confirmed the existence of a clear linear hierarchy based on agonistic interactions. The results showed that move around the enclosure depends on...
The Behaviour of Orangutans in Captivity and the Question of Large Primates in Education at Primary and Secondary Schools
Kašparová, Zuzana ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Vančatová, Marina (referee)
The diploma thesis is focused on the situation of the captive orangutans and the theme of orangutans in the school-books for primary schools and high schools. The captive orangutans have different surroundings than wild orangutans. Unsuitable conditions can be the causation of orangutans unfitting behavior. So it is very important to make such suitable surroundings for captive orangutans that it can evolve the behavior, skills and acquirement of orangutans. The main aim of the diploma thesis, based on theoretical insight, was to inscribe the behavioral differences between wild and captive orangutans. The description of the captive orangutans in the Prague ZOO is getting evolve this theme. The school-books analysis, work sheet and the presentation about orangutans could be useful for teachers.
