Human and Social Capital in Inner Peripheries of Czechia: case study the Rakovník Region
Fiala, Jan ; Chromý, Pavel (advisor) ; Pileček, Jan (referee)
The subject of research of submitted thesis is a process of space polarization and the analysis of human and social capital in region Rakovnicko, which is in national and regional development documents qualified as a problematic area with lower socialeconomic development. But the interested area is not a compact unit from the space link's point of view it is determined by significant social-economic and social-cultural differentiation. This variety is connected mainly with an existence of "internal periphery" of macrolocational characteristics, whose part can be located mainly along the border of interested area with region Ústecký and Plzeňský (Fiala, 2007). Previous surveies show, - 8 - that insufficient engagement of mayors and key figures of regional development and also insufficient cooperation of villages within the scope of microregional unions contributes to today's peripheral situation of many villages. In the submitted thesis we will try to make an analysis of differentiation of human and social potential in internal peripheries, that hasn't been sufficiently solved yet, respectively relation between the existence of problematic, peripheral area and the quality of human and social capital. Analysis of Social Networks of Actors Active within the inner periphery in the Border Area of Central, West and South Bohemia
Izakovičová, Hana ; Chromý, Pavel (advisor) ; Pileček, Jan (referee)
The thesis deals with the analysis of the social networks of actors of public, non-profit and private sectors active within the inner periphery, which is located in the border area of central, west and south Bohemia. The objective of the thesis is to try to identify and characterize social networks of actors active in the area of interest and acquire knowledge about the complexity, density and overall organization of these networks. The main research questions of the thesis include evaluation of the complexity of the identified social networks, characterization of frequency of collaboration between the actors in networks, or assess the influence of the actors within the area of interest from their perspective. The effort is also to compare the analyzed results of these networks within three individual parts of the area of interest. The input data are gained using the content analysis of documents, namely the content analysis of local periodicals published within the area of interest Then, using a method of social networks analysis and the UCINET program, the features and characteristics of identified social networks of actors within the area of interest such as size, density, centrality of a network, or specification of core and periphery actors of such network. Part of the empirical research is...
Social abd human capital as a factor of development of peripheral areas of Czechia
Pileček, Jan
Within the framework of the research focused on the polarization of space, or peripheral areas of Czechia respectively, approaches of cultural geography have been applied to a significant extent recently. As far as the issue of such areas development is concerned, the importance of the so- called "soft" socio-cultural development factors (including social and human capital) has been accentuated. The way-out is the belief that with the limited development potential of the peripheral (and rural) areas, activity and activism of local communities (quality of social and human capital) as the important internal (endogenous) development factor become more important. Despite the number of attempts, which have been made, we are not able to find exhaustive answers to questions relating to the actual importance of social and human capital (and different forms thereof) in the (socio-economic) development of these areas or the mutual relation (conditionality) thereof. For this reason, problems can be seen both in the area of theory and methodology (conceptualization) and, in particular, in insufficient verification of such theoretical concepts by means of empirical research, be specific in particular at the micro-regional up to local level. The dissertation therefore focuses on identification and explanation of...

Chudý, Vít ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Pileček, Jan (referee)
This thesis is focused on the description and assessment of the relationships between human, institutional and social capital and the assessment of the effects of capital types on economic performance. After the operationalization of capital types and economic performance that was based on literature research, the relationships were analysed using the example of European regions (specifically NUTS 2). The analysis is focused on the regional differentiation of capital types and economic maturity. It also monitors the relationships between capital types and economic performance. This thesis is based on the latest statistical data from offices and surveys that deal with the quality of the institutional environment or the characteristics of social capital. The characteristics of capital types are shown in maps. For the statistical data analysis, we used factor, correlation and regressive analysis. Keywords: human, social and institutional capital, economic performance, GDP per capita, regional differentiation, European regions NUTS 2
The role of soft factors in the development of the inner periphery of the Eastern Bohemia
Komárek, Marek ; Chromý, Pavel (advisor) ; Pileček, Jan (referee)
The role of soft factors in the development of the inner periphery of the Eastern Bohemia Abstract In recent years, research on conditionality process of space polarization and regional development puts emphasis on understanding importance of endogenous and "soft" factors. General theories of regional development (formed mainly on the basis of evaluating "hard" data) are verified by frequent case studies because of their limited explanatory power. In these case studies, especially qualitative approaches of evaluation are applied. Influence and validity of "soft" factors significantly increases with decreasing hierarchical level, so it is desirable to conduct empirical research at the municipal level. Diploma thesis aims to analyze "soft" factors of regional development and understand the nature of differences in socio-economic development at the municipal level in the inner periphery of Bohemia. The concept of the institutional thickness has become the theoretical basis. This concept has logical overlap to the concept of the social capital. The objects of research are the spatial co-operation of actors of regional development (mayors), their reciprocal trust and engagement in local activities. Thesis aims to identify and to explain the nature of relations, direction of interactions and impact of political...
