The poetics of selected plays by Roland Schimmelpfennig performed on Czech theatre stages in the context of the contemporary German-speaking theatre
Celárková, Michaela ; Augustová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Pšenička, Martin (referee)
This thesis presents the work of a contemporary German playwright Roland Schimmelpfennig in a wider context. In the main chapter, the author focuses on the analysis of five Schimmelpfennig's plays that have been performed also on Czech theatre stages. The analysis emphasizes the elements of a dramatic structure that Schimmelpfennig uses in an innovative way: epization of texts, unrealistic treatment of dramatic time, elements of magic realism etc. The author also pays attention to a general characteristic of a contemporary German-speaking theatre with respect to the topics that it deals with. A significant part of the work is devoted to classifying Roland Schimmelpfennig's work in the historical and theoretical context of a contemporary German-speaking theatre. A book called Die Rückkehr der Helden by a German author Nikolaus Frei, which questions some opinion on the recent development of theatre presented in a book Postdramatisches Theater by Hans Thiese Lehmann, has become a crucial source for this thesis. Nikolaus Frei copes with the question of animateness/inanimateness of theatre and by using extracts from particular dramatic texts by contemporary authors proves a possible continuity of mimesis, realistic acting and conflicts on the stage until the 21st century. In conclusion, it is possible...

Březinová, Tereza ; Jiřík, Jan (advisor) ; Pšenička, Martin (referee)
Tereza Březinová, DiS. Martin McDonagh a The Leenane Trilogy 1 Abstract in English The subject of the thesis is the work of playwright Martin McDonagh and in particular the so- called Leenane trilogy, which consists of his plays The Beauty Queen of Leenane, A Skull in Connemara and The Lonesome West. The first part of the thesis attempts to put McDonagh's work in the context of then-contemporary culture and literature, briefly outlines his journey towards writing for the theatre and seeks his inspirational sources, which are observed not only in the tradition of Irish drama, but also in a general pop-cultural context of the English- speaking world of the late 1980s and early 1990s. In the second part, the Leenane trilogy is a subject of analysis, with special attention to the character of Father Welsh, who (in spite of not being a leading character in either of the plays and not even appearing directly in two of them) proves to be a notable thematic link within the trilogy. Along with that, the thesis also discusses the way the trilogy's characters relate themselves (through their approach towards Father Welsh) to the Church and questions of faith.

Since 1969, when Everything in the Garden was translated by František Vrba and played in Divadlo S.K.Neumanna, this drama achieved twelve representations. Everything in the Garden was especially played in regional theaters. In 1997, the title was chosen by Městské divadlo Brno and in 2008 the latest production of this text was started in Městská divadla pražská, in Divadlo ABC, with a new translation by Dana Hábová. This thesis analyses the dramatizations of larger epic units, which have appeared on the Czech national (or regional) shows of children's theatre since 1989. After characterizing the role of dramatic text created for the theatre played by children, the work attempts to establish the evaluation criteria for the dramatization of the investigated area. With regard to the artistic and educational objectives, the work compares the composition, language and thematic basis of selected texts. At the centre of attention are those means of adaptation which acquire particular significance especially in connection with a child actor; ways of creating adult characters, the depiction of the inner world of children's heroes etc. The main task of this text analysis is to answer the question about how far the authors were able to get within the narrow borders brought on by focusing on child actors up to fifteen years of age.
