The Poet and God: the religious post-war poetry in Spain
Stašová, Veronika ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
The thesis analyses religious themes in the poetry of Dámaso Alonso and José María Valverde, who published their most famous collections of poems in the 1940s. First, it shortly presents the literary context and tradition of religious poetry in Spain in the years following the Civil War. The main part analyses religious motifs in the works of the two poets and compares their perspectives. The thesis focuses, in particular, on the theme of God (and his various aspects in the poems) and man and on their mutual relationship. It also explores the faith (and doubts) and the perspectives of life and death. The analysis aims at revealing two tendencies common for both authors: the inclination towards dialogism and thoughts associated with the Bible.

Daniššová, Alexandra ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Kazmar, Vít (referee)
DANIŠŠOVÁ, Alexandra. Carmen Martín Gaite, a modern woman. [Diploma thesis]. - Charles University. Faculty of Arts; Department of Romance studies. Hispanic studies. - Supervisor: doc. Juan Antonio Sánchez Fernández, Ph.D. Prague: FF UK, 2020. pp. 67. The aim of this diploma thesis is to point out the constant elements or themes that Carmen Martín Gaite deals with in her narrative work. The starting point of our work are two novels selected by us from various creative periods of the author, Entre visillos (1957) and Irse de casa (1998). In the analysis of the given works, we will pay attention to how the given elements stay permanent in the author's work across time, as she herself exceeded her time. Constant in her works are the characters protruding from the crowd, among whom are mainly women who do not accept their place reserved in the society by regime. The mentioned elements include a window as a stimulus to imagination and escape from everyday frustrations, a city as a space of freedom, a back room as a woman's personal space, a mother-daughter relationship or an absent interlocutor as a stimulus to self-analysis and the search for one's own identity. Keywords: Carmen Martín Gaite, female creation, back room, window, freedom, emancipation, independence, modernity, identity, imagination,...

Šoškolová, Adriena ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Kožnerová, Tereza (referee)
(in English): This bachelor's thesis deals with one of the most famous works of Spanish literature La Celestina. This work is, except many other aspects, well-known for its ability to consummately cover the sociological and cultural situation of Spain. The thesis is focused on features of bourgeois culture in this work, which means middle class. I would like to disprove the semblance, that this social class doesn't appear in this late medieval work and I would like to present proofs, which support it. In view of the fact that the work La Celestina reflects social, economical and cultural situation of its time, it is highly probable that also a theme of bourgeois culture will be sketched out there somehow. The aim of this work is to find features of this newly constituting social class. Further, the work will focuse on the figure of Pleberio, father of Melibea, whose we can consider a legitimate burgher.

Catalonia during Franquism in the early work of Pere Gimferrer
Pušová, Alena ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the early work of the Catalan poet Pere Gimferrer, in which the elements of Franco's dictatorship and restrictions are examined. Special attention is paid to the poem The Deserted Space (L'espai desert), in which Gimferrer responds more explicitly to the Francoist regime in Catalonia, and the philosophical topic of this poem is also partly described in the thesis. Furthermore, the work depicts the history and politics of the Francoist period from 1939 to 1975 and deals with the specific problems of restriction in Catalonia. The thesis also focuses on literature in the period of Franquism and the new aesthetic poetry of the Novísimos group to which Gimferrer belongs and which wanted to break free from the long- standing social poetry condemning the political situation after the civil war. At the same time, the thesis proves that Gimferrer does not completely abandon the social poetry, because the elements of the Franco's dictatorship can be found in his poems.

Bartolomé de las Casas and the conquest of America: law, religion and apostolic mission in the Indies
Vidal, Andres ; Binková, Simona (advisor) ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (referee)
Bartolomé de las Casas fought during whole of his life for the freedom of the natives of the New World. Our intention here is to know the anthropological and metaphysical foundations of his speech, think and protest. The discovery of the West Indies is for Las Casas, a sublime opportunity for the Spanish Crown to realize the apostolic mission according to the example of Christ and his disciples, martirs and saints. In this sense, this archaic-medieval world, in America is suddenly current. Therefore instead of opening new perspectives - spiritual and epistemological - on the opposite way, it is offer a new chance for the more deepest convictions established in the oldiest medieval Judeo-Christian tradition mentalitie.
