Žďánský, Jan ; Petráš, Miroslav (advisor) ; Petráš, Miroslav (advisor) ; Bernášek, Václav (referee) ; Veis, Daniel (referee)
Alexander von Zemlinsky ( b, 1872, Vienna - d. 1942, New York) is one the personalities rediscovered personalities rediscovered in the last decade. By the time of his death in exile in the USA he had been totally forgotten as composer, and nobody would have guessed that, within three decades, a wave of interest in the art of the turn of the century would rise which would bring his music to life again. Personally and artistically, Zemlinsky belonged to the circle that formed around Gustav Mahler and Arnold Schoenberg. He spet over half of his life in Vienna. It was there that he studied at the conservatory and later worked as conductor. In 1911 he became head of the opera of the New German Theatre in Prague, and one of the leading figures of the city´s nusical life in the following sixteen years. In the theatre, his Mozartean performances became legendary, and at concerts he earned renown for his accounts of Mahler symphonies. In 1927, Zemlinsky left Prague for Berlin to return, after the Nazis´advent to power, to Vienna, which he quit in 1938 for the United States. He never intergrand fully in the new milieu and the one-time star of European musical life set within a few months. Unfortunatelly doesn´t exist any publication in czech lanquage. In the second part is the analyse of 2nd Zemlinsky string quartett d-major op.15

Bach celo suites and baroque dance
Holubcová, Petra ; Veis, Daniel (advisor) ; Veis, Daniel (advisor) ; Hošek, Jiří (referee) ; Petráš, Miroslav (referee)
My dissertation is focused on Bach's suites for cello and their connection to baroque dances. It starts with Bach's biography, especially his stay in Koethen, and then it shortly covers they key problems of non-existing originals questionable copies. The dissertation itself is focused on baroque dances. I included the history, its probable form, description of individual dances and in the closing I compared its dance style to the music stylization (which are cello suites). This part of my work is based on practical experience - my meeting with docent Helena Kazarova. I have compared the results of our discussion to observations of an American cellist Tim Janof and English dancer Anne Mannsbridge. This dissertation also roughly covers questions of authentic performance of baroque music.

World's cello artistic personalities of the 20th century

Sonatas for violoncello and piano by Johannes Brahms
Veis, Šimon ; Veis, Daniel (advisor) ; Veis, Daniel (advisor) ; Chuchro, Josef (referee) ; Petráš, Miroslav (referee)
Being a cellist, I chose a topic for my thesis Brahms's work for violoncello and piano, that means two sonatas originally comoposed for this instrument and author's own arrangement of the first violin sonata. The introduction describes history of creation of these three composition ( date and place of creation, on whose order or impuls were the sonatas written, who ,where and when performed the sonatas for the first time, etc.) but just briefly, since the main part of my thesis is the analysis of all three compositions. The analysis is devided into three main parts ( three sonatas) , further can be devided between particular movements or parts of the movements ( exposition, development, recapitulation...). The reasons for choosing this topic as a thesis were my deep admiration for Brahms's heritage and a fact that I studied and then performe all three sonatas during my stay at The Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
