The Czechs in Belgrade and their social structure in years 1918-1941

This thesis deals with a Czech minority in interwar Belgrade. The aim was to examine and provide a comprehensive description of the life inside this community where important factors were an ability to integrate and a large degree of assimilation. Although the focus of my study is limited to a particular group of the Czech minority, a general view of the situation can be implied. The main sources of my work were annual reports of the Czechoslovakian village in Belgrade and other unpublished sources.

Ph.D. thesis abstract PhDr. Matěj Bílý The Ph.D. thesis "The Warsaw Treaty Organization 1969-1985. The pinnacle and path to dissolution" analyses inside processes within both political and military structures of the alliance and puts it in the context of the Cold War's development and the events in the Soviet sphere of influence in Europe. It deals mostly with the climax of the Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev's rule, however, attention is paid also to the short intermezzo of his successors, Yuri Andropov and Konstantin Chernenko. The work is based on a broad research in the Czech, Polish and German archives, already published documents and the proper secondary literature. The explanation focuses not only to the development of the organization's mechanisms - it also asses the Warsaw Pact's role as one of the Kremlin's tools for managing the Eastern Bloc. Nonetheless, during Brezhnev's era, the alliance never became an initiator of processes within the Soviet sphere of interest. In fact, the organization's structures were not very initiative. The agenda of meetings was defined elsewhere, most often in Moscow. The activities in the alliance's framework did not constitute a starting-point for the development in the Soviet sphere of influence. Yogaslavia in a reflexion of Czechoslovakian Protectorate press in 1941-1943

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the references of Yugoslavia (the area of erstwhile Yugoslavian Kingdom) in selected Czech periodical literature of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (Národní politika, České slovo a Venkov) in years 1941-1943. The emphasis is on political, economical and social events, about which the protectorate press informed. At the same time, the differences between approaches of these periodicals to such topics and events are compared. BÁRTL, ZDENĚK. The Reflection of Albania in the Czechoslovakian Environment of the Years 1948 - 1962. Praha: Faculty of Philosophy, Charles University in Prague, 2014, 86 pp. Diploma Thesis. This diploma thesis analyses the way how the Czechoslovakian print media reflected events in Albania in the years 1948 - 1962. It studies public knowledge based on the print media about political events, international relationship, economic situation, life and development in Albanian society. The chronological framework starts on alliance between Enver Hoxha regime and Czechoslovakia and ends with the first months after the real severance of all links between Albania and the Soviet Union bloc. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first, a general part, offers basic geographical information and a brief summary of Albanian history. The second part, more extensive, elaborates the key topic which means the reflection of Albania in the Czechoslovakian environment. Particular units follow up selected sphere or events which the print media dedicated the major attention in the years 1948-1962.
The Influence of Turbofolk on Modification of Identity In the Diasporal Communities from Former Yugoslavia - example of Post-Yugoslav Communities in Austria

The thesis is concentrated on a research based on turbofolk music in diaspora from the former Yugoslav countries. When speaking about turbofolk, the term can be explained as a type of popular music combined with folk elements. It originates in the former Yugoslav countries, but similar pop-folk genres can be found in other European and non- European countries as well. People with immigration background living in diaspora can possess different types of relations towards this type of music than their counterparts in the ex-Yugoslav countries. Especially, certain common tendencies can be observed among the diaspora youth cosuming turbofolk. This work will primarily give answers to the basic questions including attitudes towards turbofolk in the ex-Yugoslav diaspora. It will describe turbofolk scene in the diaspora and show its extensiveness. In particular it will be focused on the Austrian case (concerning practising turbofolk etc.). Yugoslavia at the crossroads. Reflection of the Yugoslav press in the beginning of 1990

Thesis analyzes activity of two daily newspapers of Yugoslavia, namely zagrebian Vjesnik and belgradian Politika at the beggining of the year 1990 before SFRY desintegrated. It outlines stance that these periodics adpoted on three selected events and problems prevailing in January 1990 on yugoslavian political and social scene. Among them are economical reforms started by federation prime minister Ante Marković, the rise of croatian and serbian nationalism during assembly of HDZ and SNO parties and dissolution of the Communist League of Yugoslavia at its 14th Congress. Ethno-demographic Changes in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1945-2012 analyses population development of three constitutive nations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, transformation of ethnic proportional representation of Bosnian population due to differences in demographic behaviour and spatial impacts of forced migration on population distribution after the end of the civil conflict in the 1990s. The main focus is on comparing the development of the ethno-demographic structure of socialist Bosnia and Herzegovina with the condition of the country after the war. The current demographic characteristics of the population, and contemporary ethnic composition of the country remains fundamentally affected by events related to the conflict: the so called forced migration and ethnic cleansing. The thesis compiles two fundamental approaches, one of them being the top-down approach. Josip Broz Tito in the perspective of selected yugoslav newspapers in the period of 1986-1990

This thesis is dedicated to the perception of the cult of personality of Josip Broz Tito by the yugoslav press (selected titles) in the period of 1986 - 1989/1990. The transformation of this perception in given time offers an example how political and social changes in Yugoslavia in the second half of 1980's might be seen. The perception of the cult of Josip Broz Tito in this thesis is documented in a chronological manner. All three selected newspapers (Vjesnik, Oslobodenje, Politika) are monitored simultaniously, so the perceptions from Zagreb, Sarajevo or Belgrade can be easily compared and diferences shown. The thesis contains five chapters, each of them describes a given period of time. Certain events with a profound influence on the perception of Tito's cult separates these chapters, some of them were described in special chapters.
Reflection on the brakeup of Yugoslavia in the present Srbian society

This theses deals with the research on the brakeup of Yugoslavia and its reflection in the contemporary Serbian society. Results of this research reveal how the citizens of Serbia evaluate the key events of modern Serbian (Yugoslavian) history after twenty years from the brakeup of SFRY and thirteen years from the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. The theses focuses mainly on the course of events after the death of J. B. Tito, the brakeup of SFRY and the following conflicts, the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia and the gradual integration of Serbia into the EU. The research was carried out in Belgrade, Nis and Novi Sad. The main method of heuristic research was the sociological survay conducted in the form of questionnaires. In the survay participate predominantly persons with high education devided for the purpuse of the survay according to sex and age.
The phenomenon of Medjugorje and its subsequent investigation by church officials in the years 1981-1984

This thesis deals with the Church's investigation of the events in Medjugorje in the years between 1981 - 1984 by the Franciscans of St. James's parish, bishop of Mostar and Duvno Pavao Žanić and the so-called first diocesan commission. Particular attention is paid to " the Herzegovina Case", which makes the historical background to the events in Medjugorje. This thesis also introduces the role of the charismatic movement in Medjugorje events and the social and confessional structure of the pilgrims to Medjugorje in the reference period. The basic proposition of the work is the fact that the phenomenon of Medjugorje is the result of many factors, of which the Cold War can be placed on the second position right after Herzegovina case.
