The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the digitalization of Czech political parties
Alexová, Magdaléna ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to assess the impact of the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic on the process of digitalisation of Czech political parties. The first part will provide the necessary insight into the issue of digitization of political parties and the tools that parties can use in it, including their consequences. The second part will focus on the nine most important Czech political parties (ANO 2011, ČSSD, KDU-ČSL, KSČM, ODS, Piráti, SPD, STAN, TOP 09), on the elements of their current digitization and the changes they have resorted to during the Covid-19 pandemic. We find that there are significant differences between the parties in their ability to successfully digitalize, which has manifested itself during a pandemic by their ability or inability to adapt flexibly to new conditions, adopt new digital tools and thus keep the party running effectively. The thesis will answer whether these differences, and thus the way in which the parties coped with the Covid-19 pandemic, are related to their structure and organization.
Media image of terrorist attacks in the Czech and French media: a comparative analysis
Hegerová, Lucie ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Říchová, Blanka (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with how six selected media report on the issue of terrorist attacks. Three Czech and three French media were included in the research in order to compare the method of information in these two countries. Specifically, MF Dnes, Hospodářské noviny, Právo, Le Figaro, Le Monde and Libération were examined. The method of informing was investigated on the example of three terrorist acts - attacks on trains in Madrid on March 11, 2004, Norwegian attacks in Oslo and on the island of Utøya on July 22. 2011 and the attack on Charlie Hebdo in Paris on January 7, 2015. The importance of depicting and framing terrorist attacks is also growing with the growing awareness of society and the fact that the reaction of the media and the public today is an indispensable part of the terrorist act, which the perpetrators themselves take into account when planning it. The author asks several questions concerning the thematic agenda of attacks and their framing. A combination of quantitative and qualitative content analysis methods was used to answer them, focusing on the frameworks used. The work will then be compared not only at the state level, but also between individual media and specific attacks. The result of the work are findings on the similarities and differences of the method of...
The success rate of implementing voting programs by the government parties in the years 2018-2021
Regner, Jakub ; Hájek, Lukáš (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
This bachelor thesis aims to determine to what extent the governing parties ANO and ČSSD managed to fulfil their 2017 election programmes during the 2018-2021 electoral period. From the text of the election programmes, pledges were identified through content analysis, and each pledge was assigned to a category according to a thematic area. The results of the research showed that the ANO movement managed to fulfil 55% of all testable promises, while the ČSSD fulfilled only 36% of the promises from its election programme. The results also confirm the hypothesis based on the theoretical assumption of the functioning of the party mandate model in developed democracies, where holding the prime minister's seat leads to a higher rate of fulfilment of the electoral programme. It is this positive effect that has not been confirmed in the cases of previous elections. The paper identifies the covid-19 pandemic as one of the external factors that could have significantly affected the number of promises fulfilled.
Decrease of Electoral Preferences of ČSSD after the Chamber of Deputies' Elections in 2017
Telerovský, Hynek ; Stauber, Jakub (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
The bachelor thesis is concerned with the Czech Social Democratic Party and focuses on the election failures of the party in the last two decades. The main objective is to answer the question: What caused the electoral decline of one of the most influential political parties in the Czech Republic? The author identifies potential sources of such a decline. In the theoretical part, he discusses the problems of social democracies on the European continent in the context of the global financial crisis of 2008, which he sees as one of the general factors behind the decline of these parties. In the case of CSSD, the author adds the failed attempt to modernize CSSD, which may have contributed to its decline. In the practical part, both factors are examined in more detail with a specific focus on the CSSD. Using the method of synchronic comparison, the author compares the changes in the electoral success of individual social democratic parliamentary parties in the period 2010-2021. The second factor, concerning the electoral performance of the CSSD after the party's modernization, is examined in the context of the movement of voters and the emergence of new political parties based on the analysis of sociological data. The results confirm the author's assumption that the increasing electoral decline of the...
Parliamentary Elections 2021: Women on Candidate Lists
Hajduová, Klára ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Kuľková, Miroslava (referee)
During the last couple of years, the theme of women's political representation got to the forefront of the public debate. Women and men are equal regarding political rights, however, current politics are not reflecting this equality and women are underrepresented in the Lower Chamber of the Czech Parliament. Czech republic is being placed low in worldwide as well as in European rankings of women's presence within parliaments. This bachelor thesis focuses on candidate lists of chosen Czech political subjects, in particular their composition and the way in which they are being assembled considering women candidates. The partial aims of this paper are to describe past and current situation regarding women's political representation, map formal or other forms of support within the political subjects and analyze the candidate lists for the 2021 parliamentary elections. The main goal of this theses is to evaluate the degree of composition of the candidate list's or additional factor's influence on the low representation of women in the Lower Chamber of the Czech Parliament. The result of the theses is that the influence of the way candidate lists are composed on low representation of women in the Lower Chamber of the Czech Parliament is apparent. However, it is crucial to say that there are other factors...
Pasokification - the decline of traditional and social democratic parties after the Great Recession
Ročárek, Adam ; Stauber, Jakub (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is concerned with Pasokification, a concurrent decline of traditional centre-left parties in Europe and rise of alternative parties after the Great Recession of 2008. The theoretic part of the thesis analyses the status of these parties prior to their decline, their politics, way of governing, evolution and reforms which the parties embraced prior to their decline. The practical part analyses the decline itself, and how its tied to parties' politics and decisions prior to it. It also analyses the new, alternative parties, which have begun to occupy the space previously dominated by moderate, traditional parties. By comparison between the parties that successfully staved off Pasokification, and parties that declined into political irrelevance, and by comparison between the traditional and alternative parties, this thesis pinpoints the reasons for the decline. By analysing the electoral successes of the traditional and alternative parties, the thesis resolves the relationship between the two, discovering whether the rise of alternative parties is the reason for the decline, or a result of it. The same hypotheses are used for the 6 analysed states, and as such the thesis analyses whether the hypotheses are applicable to the wide trend of the European left.
(Non)cultural Czechia alias political culture during the pandemic
Tichý, František ; Hájek, Lukáš (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
The bachelor thesis "(Non) cultural Czech alias political culture during the pandemic" deals with the political culture in the Czech Republic during the covid-19 pandemic in the period between 13th of March 2020, and 17th of December 2020. The first theoretical part deals with the interpretation of the very concept of political culture in the academic literature, but also, for example, in newspaper articles or other sources. In this respect, the author categorizes the individual definitions and approaches into a clear classification, of which one conceptualization is used in the research itself. In the second, i.e. practical part, using the materials created in the theoretical part, the work seeks to identify the level of the political culture of political representatives, more precisely members of the government, in the Czech Republic. It examines whether or not they have breached anti-epidemic measures during the specified period, and if they have, it further analyses them. This work builds on longer-term research in political culture, but also tries to bring knowledge from the new situation, the pandemic of covid-19, which is a completely unprecedented event for the 21st century.
Reform of the Autonomous Statute of Catalonia and its relation to the Reform of Spanish Constitution and territorial organization
Fillnerová, Jitka ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Urban, Traian (referee)
The diploma thesis Reform of the Autonomous Statute of Catalonia and its relation to the Reform of Spanish Constitution and territorial organization deals with the issue of Catalan autonomy and in particular with the recent reform of the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia in 2006. It is a complete reform, which provoked a controversy leading even before the Constitutional Court and divided the political actors both on the Catalan and on the Spanish level. The extension of autonomy in the areas of competencies, financing, doctrinal aspects relating to the recognition of Catalan as an official language and especially to the denomination of Catalonia as a nation, has caused a growing divergence between autonomous communities and could lead to the aspirations of other to acquire the same status or privileges as Catalonia. The Spanish Constitution does not provide any specific definition of territorial organization, which gives the autonomous communities the possibility to specify the scope and extent of their autonomy. The debate concerning the Constitutional reform, which could make the system more clear and effective, started as a reaction to the statute reform in Catalonia. In the current political context, the reform of the Constitution seems to be unreal as the two main political parties - PP and PSOE - are...
