Carpool as an alternative to the traditional ways of commuting examined by university students from Písek region commuting to Prague
Kozák, Vlastimil ; Jaroš, Václav (advisor) ; Hasman, Jiří (referee)
The bachelor thesis targets on the topic of carpooling. Under the term of a carpool-journey is understood an alternative to traditional means of transport. This topic has been mentioned in Czechia only marginally and has not been further researched. The thesis aims to get a closer look on carpooling and to cover it as a self-standing complex topic. Main aim is to define the term of carpooling, determine its types and in author's own questionnaire to identify basic principles which are specific for student's carpooling between Prague and the town of Písek. Outcomes of the questionnaire are discussed with literature. It is possible to divide carpooling into internal and external. Furthermore, it can be divided into formal and informal carpooling. The determining factor for a working carpool journey is motivation of participants which forms the carpool-journey's characteristics. Among others it is mainly saving money, saving time and comfort. Main barrier for carpooling is sharing a car with an unknown person. The thesis is an entrance gate into the topic of carpooling and there are a lot of further research possibilities.

Tomáš Sobota: Industrial Geography Transformation as a Consequence of the Industrial Revolution: Example of the Brewing Industry In Prague, 1869-1939 Abstract The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe the general factors which influenced the development of the brewing industry in Prague between the years 1869 and 1939. A description and definition of factors influencing the brewing industry during that time period is in the theoretical part of this thesis. The general factors include the formation of cartels, redevelopment of the centre of Prague, the First World War and the Great Depression. This thesis also includes a description of the impact of breweries (founded after the year 1869) on other brewing companies. The empirical part of this thesis describes changes of spatial distribution of bier production during the period of interest. This is done by thematic maps and diagrams related to the issue. Keywords: Prague - brewing industry - industry - industrial revolution - geography
The impact of weather and season to the accessibility in mountain areas
Kroczek, Tomáš ; Jaroš, Václav (advisor) ; Hasman, Jiří (referee)
This Bachelor thesis evaluates the impact of weather and season (of the year) on transport accessibility in the mountainous areas. Thesis is focused on city of Vrchlabí. The thesis is based on data obtained by field survey using a standardized questionnaire. The survey sample was collected on (grammar/high) school. The survey basis was defined by commuting region of school students by comparison with the school region defined based on data from Census 2011. Subsequent case study describes the differences in accessibility, choice of transport mean and traffic behaviour caused by current season or weather. This thesis confirms the assumption, that the weather and season not only affect accessibility but also the transport behaviour of respondents. It provides insights that may affect the scheduling of public transport or construction of new bike lanes and safe walking routes. Keywords: accessibility, modal choice, transport behaviour, Vrchlabí, transport

Hönigová, Tereza ; Janská, Eva (advisor) ; Hasman, Jiří (referee)
Internal migration of Vietnamese in Czechia and its regularities Abstract: The purpose of this diploma thesis is to identify the key factors in the spatial distribution of the Vietnamese, characterize trends of their internal mobility in the Czech Republic and in two regions - Karlovarský and Ústecký. These both regions are characterized by a high concentration of Vietnamese in the Czech Republic. The thesis uses a questionnaire survey among Vietnamese migrants which took place on whole territory of the Czech Republic in 2013. Therefore we can describe their reasons for coming to our republic, trends in internal mobility and future migration plans. Part of the thesis is focused on relationship between the migration of Vietnamese and their employment or accommodation. Keywords: international migration, internal migration, immigrants, Vietnamese, spatial distribution of immigrants, Karlovarský region, Ústecký region, questionnaire survey
Spatial behaviour of immigrants: analysis of spatial relatedness between migration groups
Hasman, Jiří ; Novotný, Josef (advisor) ; Baláž, Vladimír (referee) ; Netrdová, Pavlína (referee)
The entry of immigrants into their incoming country as well as their subsequent spread over the country's territory occurs through processes that have a strong spatial bias. The specific migration groups (here defined as the set of immigrants with the same country of origin) tend to reveal different levels and patterns of their spatial concentrations. The understanding of these similarities and dissimilarities in spatial behaviour is important task from both academic and policy perspective. This thesis has a quantitative character and it is based on the study of "spatial relatedness" of migration groups, which is defined as a rate, how much do given migration groups concentrate into the same regions. The thesis is based on a simple assumption that the spatial relatedness mirrors mutual proximity or similarity between these groups in other respects (e.g. cultural or economical). Plenty of datasets describing spatial distribution of migrants within 32 territorial systems on various scales (from global to local) are analysed. These systems will be analysed separately at first and then a synthesis of these partial results will be done with the aim to discover prevailing pattern of the spatial relatedness of migration groups. The assessments consists of several steps, which include particularly calculation of...
Analysis of surnames in Chrást (near Plzeň): geographical aspects
Kouba, Čestmír ; Novotný, Josef (advisor) ; Hasman, Jiří (referee)
ANALYSIS OF SURNAMES IN CHRÁST (NEAR PLZEŇ): GEOGRAPHICAL ASPECTS Abstract This thesis analyses surnames as geographical data. It focuses on a case study of Chrást municipality (near Plzeň). In addition to a descriptive analysis of the set of local surnames, it uses surname data to analyse relatedness between local population and populations of other Czech municipalities and examines the isolation by distance hypothesis. Some parallels between biological relatedness and surname surname relatedness are also exemplified. The results confirm a significant impact of distance on surname differentiation. Keywords: surname spatial distribution, isolation by distance, Chrást, migrations, isonymy, genealogy, spatial relatednes
A comparison of the development of regional disparities in the EU countries during the economic crisis
Vrbický, Vít ; Hasman, Jiří (advisor) ; Novotný, Josef (referee)
There are many regional development theories already dealing with development of regional differences and their trends. In the European context is regional development linked with terms like convergence/divergence and related to the basic principles of the European Union Cohesion Policy, which goal is a higher level of integration and compensation of regional differences among member states' regions. Currently is this topic closely associated with last years' significant phenomenon - the economical crisis. The aim of this thesis is to compare the regional development among the European Union member states during the recent economical crisis by analysing regional differentiation on levels NUTS 2 and NUTS. The regional differentiation was calculated using two variability indices (Theil index and the coefficient of variation) and based on the unemployment rate and Gross Domestic Product per capita. Arising from the main hypothesis the bimodality of old versus new member states was partially confirmed, which was more evident using the unemployment rate. Finally the cluster analysis was used to create groups of states on the basis of similarity in the development of differentiation during the crisis. The results didn't show significant dependence according to the proposed hypotheses. The real impact of the...
Aanalys of Sorting of Municipal Waste in the Municipalities of the Holešovsko Micro-region
Cahlíková, Markéta ; Hasman, Jiří (advisor) ; Kabrda, Jan (referee)
Sorting of municipal waste is considered to be a significant possibility for everyone to participate in more effective waste treatment, which helps to protect the environment. The main goal of this study is to find out which factors influence human decisions in the question of sorting or not-sorting waste. The analysis on the national level and in mikroregion Holešovsko was made with the purpose to achieve this goal. The results show the importance of several factors, the most important one being the level of achieved education. Other factors , which were found signifacant at least for one type of sorted waste, are the accessibility of containers, age 45-64, voting for Green party and longtitude of residence. The relative amount of sorted municipal waste in mikroregion Holešovsko is smaller than the average for the whole region Zlín. This fact may be partly explained by the differencies in sociodemographic structure.
The geography of income inequality in the world
Hasman, Jiří ; Novotný, Josef (advisor) ; Pavlík, Petr (referee)
J. Hasman: Geografie příjmových nerovnoměrností ve světě 4 Abstract This thesis concerns with the comparison of income inequality within countries and with the analysis of income inequality determinants. Its main objectives are to: (1) examine the problem of international comparability of income inequality data and put together database with comparable data, (2) describe international differences in the level of income inequality and verify the hypothesis that there is a significant degree of similarity among countries within macroregions of the world, (3) discuss various explanations for international differences in income inequality, and (4) examine these determinants by cross-country analysis. The issue of international comparability of data has usually been only insufficiently dealt with, what can lead to highly misleading results when comparing levels of inequality across countries. The thesis overviews the most important methodical problems and documents their typical neglect on two notable examples of CIA - The World Factbook database and the Human Development Report database. One important problem in the cross-country comparisons is the adjustment of indicators of inequality based on different conceptions (e.g. household expenditures versus incomes). Existing literature mostly ignores the fact that...
