Kulhánová, Ivana ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the trends in avoidable mortality in the selected Central and Eastern European countries in the period 1980-2005. Since the collapse of the communist regime, the mortality in the Czech Republic has improved more rapidly than in other Central and Eastern European countries. The concept of avoidable mortality has been used as a methodological instrument for measuring of efficiency of the health care system in order to reduce intensity of mortality in population. Using the method of decomposition of the temporary life expectency between ages 0 and 75 years, contributions of each category of causes of death were investigated. The results of time analysis show that improvements in health care and prevention, and change of lifestyle significantly contribute to the increase of the temporary life expectancy between the years 1980 a 2005. On the contrary, impact of the health care system was not shown in the study of geographical differences in mortality. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Prognostic estimate of needed capacity of facilities providing care for elderly in Nový Jičín District until the year 2030
Dubcová, Ivana ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Burcin, Boris (referee)
The main aim of the thesis is to estimate a needed capacity of nursing homes and houses with home help services in the district Nový Jičín. The year 2030 was chosen as a time horizon. Current facilities, age and sex structure of their users in this district were described by means of field inquiry. The proportion of users of facilities was estimated from real population of the district at specific age. Important part of the thesis is a forecast of population growth of the district, which was based on the previous population development there. This trend was compared with population development in Moravian-Silesian region and in the Czech Republic as a whole in the special chapter. The estimate of needed capacity of above-mentioned facilities connects the forecast of the future development of age structure of elderly with contemporary availability of the facilities providing care for elderly. The thesis also describes the development of facilities providing care for elderly in the Czech Republic, furthermore it analyses the factors that can influence demand for these facilities.
Germany as a civilian power after its engagement in Operation Enduring Freedom
Ristemiová, Linda ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bahenský, Vojtěch (referee)
The main subject of this thesis is the status of Germany as a civilian power after its engagement in the war against terrorism, most importantly its engagement in the Operation Enduring Freedom. It is based on the theory of civilian power, mainly on the publications of Hanns Maull and other authors, that worked with this theory later. The following empirical analysis describes particular engagement of Germany in Operation Enduring Freedom. Thesis further discusses political discourse, the discussion in the media and process of the approval of German mandate in the operation. The thesis also mentions German engagement in ISAF, as these two operations were happening simultaneously and it can help the reader understand the difference between them, as well as the controversy of Enduring Freedom, which is the main subject of this thesis. Historical context of Germany as a civilian power and its shift from civilian politics in the 90s helps to establish final arguments. As per theoretical and empirical analysis I point out, that Germany definitely shifted itself from civilian politics, however not entirely. I also take into account the fact that international position of Germany changed rapidly compared to previous century. Therefore the shift from civilian politics is natural development.

Split of Sudan: Possible solution for other African Countries?
Šůcha, Václav ; Riegl, Martin (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of diploma thesis ,,Split of Sudan: Possible scenario for other African countries?" is to analyze internal and external causes of South Sudan's secession and to find out, if these causes have secessionist potential in the cases of Somaliland in Somalia and Biafra in Nigeria. Among the internal causes, we can find for example nationalism or human rights abuses, while the external causes are represented primarily by the role of international community. After South Sudan's declaration of indendence, many scholars what African countries were going to follow Sudan's scenario. For the same purpose, this thesis is aimed at analyzing the cases of Somalia and Nigeria or Somaliland and Biafra to be more precise. Somaliland has been de facto independent from Somalia since 1991 but it hasn't been recognized by any country yet. Although Biafra only exists on the paper, the local secessionist movement has been seeking an actualization of this political unit existing in the 1960s for many years now. First partial goal of this thesis is to analyze the secession of South Sudan according to set theories of secession and to create a hypothesis about suitable condiditons for other secessions. The rest of the thesis is dedicated to testing given hypothesis in the cases of Somaliland and Biafra.
