Gersdorfová, Zlata ; Hlaváčková, Jana Hana (advisor) ; Royt, Jan (referee)
This work deals with the sacred spaces in Czech Krumlov and their relationship in the light of the ceremony of relics-showing in the Feast of Corpus Christi (ca 1350-1419AD). A part of this work identifies the sacred spaces in the castle and deals with the possibility of their participation in theatrum fidei of the town. The view of the town as theatrum fidei can be seeing as civitatis in the medieval concept of the town-founding and as a stage of liturgically ceremonies. In this context is compared the residence-city of the lords of Rosenberg with caput regni Bohemie - analogically when talking about Prague an expression imitatio Romae is used when referring to Krumlov it is possible to use imitatio Pragae.
The cosmological conception of the Old Testament and its representation in the Anglo-Saxon art
Panušková, Lenka ; Konečný, Lubomír (advisor) ; Hlaváčková, Jana Hana (referee) ; Studničková, Milada (referee)
The rendering thesis analyses the topic of the Creator of the world with compasses in his hands generally known in the art historian literature. The common known example of this iconography is presented in the frontispice of older of two bible moralisées in Vienna, on which the Logos-Creator is shaping the four elements within the earthcircle by the compasses. The illustration is to be interpreted according to the old French inscription in the top strip of the square frame of the scene: ICI CRIE DEX CIEL ET TERRE SOLEIL ET LVNE ET TOZ ELEMENZ. In line with this scene all the illuminations presenting God with a pair of compasses are commonly held for a depiction of Creator mundi as Architectus or deus geometra. That is why the aim of this work is to show the incorrectness of such identification above all in case of the Anglo-Saxon manuscripts. In these the analysed motif is simultaneously performed in both its meanings - the protological one as Creator mundi and also the eschatological one as the fair Judge. On the grounds by this bipolarity it is necessary to emphasize need of the distinction of the first group of authentic Anglo-Saxon view of the motif and its later appearance on the continent reduced by the essential weakening of the eschatological aspect in the favour of the protological one. The Jewish motifs in 14th century Christian manuscripts and murals in central Europe
Šafrová, Alena ; Hlaváčková, Jana Hana (advisor) ; Royt, Jan (referee)
Zpodobení Židů ve středověkém křesťanském výtvarném umění v sobě explicitně odráží postoj, jaký k tomuto národu křesťané zaujali, a zároveň nemálo vypovídá o situaci a duchovní atmosféře středověké křesťanské společnosti.
Graduals from the Workshop of Jan Táborský of Klokotská Hora
Součková, Ema ; Royt, Jan (advisor) ; Brodský, Pavel (referee) ; Hlaváčková, Jana Hana (referee)
The dissertation focuses on the decoration of 16th century choral manuscripts. The first part is devoted to the person of Jan Táborský of Klokotská Hora (1499-1572) who was a scribe and an owner of a scribe manufactory, and to the most significant illuminators of the the 16th century who contributed to the decoration of songbooks in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown. Attention is given not only to the illuminators to whom Jan Táborský of Klokotská Hora assigned the work and whose contribution can be inferred from the documents or stylistic analysis of their illuminations, but also to their contemporaries. Besides the frequently mentioned Fabián Puléř, we can assume that Jan Taborský also collaborated with Matouš Ornys of Lindperk, Matyáš Hutský of Křivoklát, Ambrož Ledecký and, presumably, others. In this context, one part of the thesis is focused on engravings by Martin Schongauer, Albrecht Dürer, Bernard Salomon and on the domestic prints by George Melantrich the Elder, as these engravings, mostly woodcuts, served as patterns and inspiration for almost every Bohemian illuminator. Themes found in this type of manuscript are mostly based on Biblical stories, corresponding to the feasts of the liturgical year. In addition to these themes, the graduals contain many miniatures associated with various...
The Reflection of the Ecclesiastical Environment of the Last Quarter of the14th Century in the Works of the Master of Trebon Altarpiece
Kanaloš, Martin ; Royt, Jan (advisor) ; Hlaváčková, Jana Hana (referee)
The thesis deals with the ecclesiastical environment of the last quarter of the14th century which reflects in the works of the Master of Trebon Altarpiece. In the Trebon Altarpiece it is visible the reflection of the devotio moderna movement, and the body and blood of Christ adoration. In another work of the Master of Trebon Altarpiece The Roudnice Madonna the veneration of the Virgin Mary and the relic of peplum cruentatum (the Virgin Mary's stained veil of Christ's blood) is highlighted. This veneration is also expressed in the painting of the workshop of the Master of Trebon Altarpiece Madonna Aracoeli. Jan of Jenstein (1350-1400) deeply venerated the Virgin Mary. He contributed in propagation of her cult and it is possible that he had an influence on The Master of Trebon Altarpiece, and he could be even the one who ordered paintings from the Master of Trebon Altarpiece. Key words: Master of Trebon Altarpiece, Trebon Altarpiece, Canons Regular of St. Augustin, John of Jenstein, 14th century panel painting

XXIII C 120 - National Library of the Czech Republic and ms. 298 - Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge), an extraordinary liturgical book illuminated between 1302-1316 for bishop of Metz in the region of Lorraine. Both manuscripts have been considered as two separated liturgical books untill recent period. Detailed comparation of their content and decoration, which goes over usual temporary production, allows understand that they are two parts of one identical pontifical. Its decoration is unique especially due to multitude of images illustrating medieval liturgy and number of drolleries. The aim of this work is to open new topics for future researches. They might explain some problems, which arose during detailed description of the manuscripts' decoration. Special attention is dedicated to picture supplement.
Gothic mural painting in castle chapels in Bohemia
Čechová, Lucie ; Hlaváčková, Jana Hana (advisor) ; Royt, Jan (referee)
This work is an investigation of Czech Gothic murals in castle chapels in Bohemia. The key for including of a mural to the catalogue was the founding date between early middle-ages up to the year 1526; end of the hegemony of the Jagellon dynasty amongst Bohemian Kingdom. The core of the work is a comprehensive catalogue of such murals. Included are 12 localities where these murals can be found, dating through 300 years of the middle-ages. Not included in this catalogue are the three well-documented sacral spaces in Karlštejn castle, although they also fit the time period in question. It must be acknowledged that the Karlštejn chapel murals are key elements in understanding this style and era, due to their quality and influential nature. This essay sought to isolate and explore any specific typology in this class of artwork. However, it must be stated that no such unique common character exists. The murals are more a reflection of the requirements and tastes of the individual patrons; they also express the fashion of their particular eras. There are also discrepancies in quality, which vary from century to century. In the 14th century, the quality of the investigated murals cannot be compared to that of paintings in the court of the King. However, by the late 15th and 16th centuries, the quality of murals...
