Ecohydrological survey of streams in urban and suburban landscape. Case study of the Vinor Brook.
Koubková, Lenka ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Benešová, Libuše (referee)
Ecohydrological survey of streams in urban and suburban landscape. Case study of the Vinoř Brook. Abstract This thesis deals with a ecohydrological survey of the Vinoř Brook which was seriously environmentally burdened in the 90s of the 20th century. The ecological status is determined by the assessment of runoff regime, surface water quality, sediment contamination and ecomorphological survey. Data was compiled by the field survey and measurements. Discharges were measured by the hydrometric propeller. The water quality was determined based on the analysis of physico-chemical parameters. The most problematic are compounds of nitrogen. The highest concentration of nitrate and ammonia nitrogen was measured on the upper stream of the Vinoř Brook in the profile No. 1. This profile is influenced by the outlet of the sewage wastewater treatment plant in Kbely. In order to find the old anthropogenic pollution of bottom sediments with heavy metals and arsenic in the vicinity of Biologický pond, sediments from this location were sampled and content of each element was determined by ICP OES method. Subsequently a comparative analysis was made with previous surveys. The observed concentrations of heavy metals and arsenic in sediments in the...
The effect of sampling point on hygienically significant water indicators in natural bathing establishment
Zelinková, Myra ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Popovský, Jiří (referee)
In this diploma thesis, I deal with the influence of the sampling site on water quality in natural bathing lakes (Hostivar reservoir, Seberak pond and Vyzlovka pond) in this. I have established that hygienically significant kinds of phytoplankton may differ in terms of water quality especially where there are cyanobacteria constituting water bloom. Surface water bloom may be moved by wind to the lee side of the water body (Microcystis sp.). Aphanizomenon flos-aquae water bloom floating in water column can be affected by wind and by water flow (which may be partly affected by wind as well). With the prevailing fibrous Planktothrix agardhii which does not connstitute water bloom the concentration of chlorophyll-a and cyanobacterial cell abundance in individual sampling sites are similar although the concentration of chlorophyll-a a is about 200 g.l-1 . Microcystis sp. and Scenedesmus sp. survive under eutrophic conditions in competition. From the microbiological perspective, water quality can differ within a single sampling site in places at a distance of less than 100 m. Microbial contamination can be caused by bathers, water birds, farm animals and probably by the removing of microorganisms from sand, mud and sediments on the beach or shore. Rain episodes probably increase the abundance of E.coli...
Assessment of sediments from the Vuznice resevoir (PLA Krivoklatsko) for agricultural purposes
Cepáková, Šárka ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Komínková, Dana (referee)
The Vůznice Reservoir is located in the Protected Landscape Area Křivoklátsko. The thesis took advantage of the special possibilities to sample bottom sediment from the drained reservoir's space. The Vůznice Reservoir is discharged only exceptionally. Concentrations of heavy metals were evaluated in the sediments' samples. Given values were compared with pollution limits under current legislation of the Czech Republic for possible application of sediments on agricultural land resources. In addition, the values were compared with the U.S. EPA limits, particularly with PEC and TEC. Selected heavy metals meet the required limits of Decree No. 257/2009 Coll. placed on the sediment. Key words: toxic metals, Vuznice, bottom sediment, application of dredged sediments on land
Study the treatment of medical waste in CR and EU
Pilnáček, Vojtěch ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Zimová, Magdalena (referee)
Domain of medical waste includes a few sub domains. Firstly it is legislation of handling with medical waste, which is nowadays in European Union fractionalized in different laws. Then it is sub domain of technical solutions of handling with medical waste. This sub domain comprises of many options as preventing of generation, recycling, conversion and disposal of medical waste. Last domain is data about production and handling with medical waste. Area of collected data is limited on member states of European Union. The data are unfortunately difficult to access and relatively incomplete and unreliable. The thesis contains accessible information in these sub domains. Conclusions of the thesis are assessment and a few recommendations for amelioration of present state in the area.
Mapping of water quality in Prague creeks with GIS
Thompsonová, Tereza ; Matějíček, Luboš (advisor) ; Benešová, Libuše (referee)
This thesis is focused in using of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for mapping water quality in Prague creeks. The theoretical section focuses in a description of GIS and selected GIS projects (SWAT, ZABAGED) including a description of using GIS abroad. Working processes of chemical analyzes required to determine water quality and pollution sources in the area of urbanized basin are explained in the task. The practical section is focused in processing of data, especially mapping of selected creeks and sampling profiles using GIS. Obtained data is processed in tables and charts and used in correlation analysis. A purpose of the project was to demonstrate a possibility of GIS for modelling basin and its parameters.
Quality assessment of biowaste
Karasová, Milada ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Doležalová, Markéta (referee)
1 Biowaste has recently been the main problem of waste management. The problem lies in biowaste landfill. During its decomposition leads to air pollution and potentially are at risk ground water. This work deals with the quantity and quality of the produced biowaste and biowaste management. Contemporary technologies and pilot projects are also presented. Keys words: biowaste, quantity of biowaste, biowaste treatment
Methods of treatment of urban waste water and the possibility of using treated water
Charalambous, Panagiotis ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Tonika, Jaroslav (referee)
Nowadays, wastewater treatment is becoming increasingly necessary due to the reduction of water resources, the increasing price of drinking water, as well as the shrinking underground water reserves. The treatment of wastewater for reuse and disposal is particularly important for countries and regions which suffer from drinking water shortage. Thus, it is vital to find sustainable solutions for the better protection of the environment and also to improve the water's quality by adapting new and more efficient technologies. This bachelor thesis contains a comprehensive study of different methods and technologies that are used today for the wastewater treatment, with a specific emphasis on urban wastewaters. Furthermore, it examines the post-treated wastewater management, including possible ways of reusing them in many aspects. Keywords: urban wastewater, activation process, biofilters
Crushes and theirs effect on water quality
Uhrová, Adéla ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Tonika, Jaroslav (referee)
This thesis is focused on accidents in water and their their division into groups according to different factors. Work detailing the chemical accidents resulting in pollution of surface and groundwater, which became the Czech Republic since 2000. Describes chemicals that often escape into the water and damage to their quality. Furthermore, there is described an accident in 2006, when form "Lučební závody Draslovka, Kolín" leaked into the Elbe dangerous cyanide. Key words: Accidents, water pollution
Specific water properties of pit lakes in the Czech Republic
Hrdinka, Tomáš ; Janský, Bohumír (advisor) ; Benešová, Libuše (referee) ; Herber, Vladimír (referee)
Anthropogenic lakes constitute a significant part of the Czech countryside water component which has not been given sufficient attention so far. The presented thesis deals with the assessment of variability of physico-chemical properties of water in 30 selected pit lakes in order to identify specific features associated with quarrying of different mineral raw materials, basin morphometry and trophic level of the lakes affecting the quality of accumulated water. In the second part of the thesis the author deals with the comprehensive limnological study of the Hromnické Lake with extreme water chemism resulting from excavation of pyritic shales and focuses on the phenomenon of meromixis especially. The results are based on the evaluation of physical properties of water in the lake vertical profile (temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH, transparency and colour) and chemical analyzes of water samples collected from the surface and bottom of the lakes during the four seasons in 2003-07 (determination of Ca, Mg, Na, K, Nammon., NO3 - , SO4 2- , Cl- and alkalinity), including determination of chlorophyll-a. In the case study of the Hromnické Lake conducted in 2010-11, the analysis of hydrological regime of the lake, determination of PO4 3- , TOC, selected metals (Fe, Mn, Al, Zn, Ni, Cu, Co,...
Study the incidence, management and economy diapers in social institutions
Ševčíková, Lucie ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Zimová, Magdalena (referee)
Composition of municipal waste is changing in last period because of demographical changes. These changes cause increased volume of waste of rare appearance or new waste type. One example are diapers. Majority of social insitutions use diapers however its disposal is unclear.Goal of this thesis is to monitor consumption and disposal of diapers at social institutions (retirement homes, geriatry). The thesis will also evaluate cost of diapers purchase and disposal. The conclusion is devoted to the production of waste in Prague, which is assigned according to Waste Cataloguenumber 18 01 03. Under this number is also used fallsincontinence.
